I wouldn't trust him against Liverpool just yet. If it was up to me I'd play him against Galatasaray and give Evra a nice rest before Liverpool. Experience matters a lot in these games and we should ease Buttner in to the squad gradually.

Is galatasary away? If so I doubt that game would really "ease" him into anything

Wonder if he can play on the right as well. Wouldn't want to risk rafael plying 3 games in a week. Would be great if he could do a job there for a game or two until a jones or smalling is fit.

Evra's reaction to Büttners goal:

The dribbling was shocking!! I doubt that was his reaction... I was laughing myself.

Yeah he does resemble a winger more than a fullback so will be interesting to see him being really tested defensively

I don't think so.

He was actually quite good defensively.

He seems physically robust and put in some good tacklings even though a few were a bit risky.

A really good fullback needs to be good going forward, the best in the world are all really good going forward and spend a lot of time doing so especially against weaker teams.

Good fullback-winger partnerships always need to work offensively and defensively together.

Of course we will only know how good he really is defensively once he plays against better teams.

I just meant that he looks like a player more comfortable in the opposition half than his own, and spent probably more time in it yesterday. He looked like he was going to skin an opposition player everytime he got the ball. We didn't get that good an indication of his defensive abilities, will require a sterner test to find that out.

It was one game against a feeble Wigan side.

What I liked though is his composure on the ball. Never once panicked into doing anything and was happy to take on the creative responsibility himself rathr than wait 10 minutes for Giggs to wonder slowly over and help him. There's no way he started out as a fullback.

Was pissing me off in the first half though when he kept turning one way and the other looking for someone to make themselves available for a pass, and our entire team just stood and stared at him like a bunch of clueless fecking Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime. It happened about four times.

One could say almost like slow motion Zombies??

Looked a bit like a rabid terrier eager to catch his tail. I'd like to see him calm down a bit but it was his first appearance. A decent showing. Only problem is he crosses worse than Evra and his dribbling was a bit hit and run. But all in due time.

Ummm his crosses yesterday were miles ahead of the average Evra cross that fails to beat the first man 19/20 times. Evra can't strike the ball with power, I reckon there is 12 year olds that got more sting in their crosses/shots. At least Buttner gets it into the box, that nobody is in the box is another issue though...

When asked "What will you like to achieve at Manchester United?", Buttner replied "I like to cross and shoot"

That you do, Buttman, that you do.

Fans like players who look like they give a shit sure, but they also expect a certain standard of quality.

His crossing looked one of his biggest assets yesterday.

I actually can't believe that some fans think he might the anfield match.I mean, are you guys for real ?

Why not? Silvestre played his debut game for us if I remember correctly at Anfield, as a left-back. I think Evra will play midweek and if he has a solid game he'll probably play at Anfield, but I don't really see the problem with playing Buttner there..

another thing - why call him Buttman or the like, hope it doesn't catch on, kinda stupid..

If SAF takes that decision (I don't think he will because Evra is a big boy now ) then it wouldn't be an issue of related to his ability like most seem to imply. One good game from Buttner against Wigan is very encouraging but Evra is still the starter LB.
It'll be explosive either way cause Buttner seems to be like a nutcase and a match against Liverpool he might twat a scouser

Also Evra made his debut in the manchester derby didn't he? I'm sure Evra will start but if buttner plays in midweek and is equally impressive I wouldn't mind if he started. That's how it should be, he came in the team, took his chance and as a reward gets to stay in the team.

Sylvestre didn't have a competition of Evra's quality.SAF rested him also because it's been a busy start of the season for him with him also starting the two France matches.
I'd admit my stupidity without problem if Buttner starts at Anfield

There wouldn't be an stupidity on your part, unless we take SAF's decision as the ultimate rights and wrongs (which I don't). But I don't get why you think Buttner is a nutcase who shouldn't be risked against Liverpool. He didn't do anything reckless against Wigan, but he showed a lot of confidence and a bit of arrogance which is healthy...

Didn't Evra have Heinze who'd been a quality player for us? Like I said I expect Evra will play and it'd make sense as one good game isn't enough to leave out an established player but if Buttner does play in midweek and does have another excellent game then I think he'd deserve a chance to be in the reckoning for the Liverpool game. Plus the sort of determination he showed was exactly the sort of thing we've lacked recently.

Abuse is not exactly the same as not wanting to 'diffuse' hatred is it

Why? Evra could be left out for the same reason as Rooney, Fergie could easily decide its not worth making the player run the gauntlet, especially as he now appears to have a decent backup. In addition the removal of Evra will diffuse the animosity somewhat which should hopefully play into our hands in terms of getting a result.

Not sure Büttner is ready to play at Anfield. Evra should start although if tackles start flying there is always a danger of him getting a red but still Evra should start for me.

I was only talking about the upcoming Anfield trip.Whatever happens during the season will be different, but for the immediate future I see Evra as a starter next Sunday

Evra starts Liverpool. Guaranteed. Fergie goes for experience for big games, regardless of form. Expect Scholes, Evra, Giggsy, Carrick, Vidic, Rio, Van Persie, Valencia, Nani to be shoo-ins for the Pool game. Only those he trusts

Not sure Giggs will start, but I agree with the rest, it's the sort of game where experience is crucial. I expect we'll rest Carrick, Scholes, Evra, Rio and Nani for Liverpool. Valencia and Van Persie, having rested for most of the Wigan game, can play Galatasaray and Liverpool.

Not sure he trusts Nani. He most definitely should start, but it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't.

Buttner won't play against Liverpool, though, and probably correctly. We need experience, and perhaps the knock and Buttner taking his chance against Wigan will give Pat a boot up the arse.

Buttner vs Sterling could be interesting.

I know many people wouldn't agree with me, but I would like to see Buttner against Sterling/Liverpool.
