If James is anything, he is a left winger. That's where he looks most comfortable.
This!
Giggs plays him there for Wales. He scored that worldie against Southampton from the left. Scored against Palace and Lask from the left

Utd play him on the right:rolleyes:

I’m not convinced by these links to him. I’m still naively hoping we’re allowing our name to be used to force PSG to make a move and Alaba is our actual first choice. If we wanted him he’d be here already surely? He’s been available all summer.

Not when Ed Woodward is negotiating deals.

We will probably see the usual news that we haven't agreed terms with the club and somebody else snaps him up.
But in that way they keep us happy with the players we're associated with until everything falls down.

So was Bruno last summer and we still ended getting him only in late Jan this year.

Telles is in his last year. I’ve just seen the price is £23m though which is high in this situation. They have to sell and there’s a pandemic on - that fee is dropping considerably final week of the deadline. That’s probably what we’re waiting for if we do want him. He has to quarantine for 2 weeks anyway.

If we are going to sign a LB I would have thought it would be the young Ukranian player that was previously mentioned; Bringing in a player that is nearly 28 on a five year deal is not normally the Manchester United way as far as I can recall.

To be fair, if Pool can get Thiago for £25m when he had one season left on his contract, any club with the capacity to negotiate/handle transfers competently would get him for under £20m.

Not only that, but apparently it's a long term agreement where they pay just £5m per year...!!

Best signing we could do this summer is bring in Liverpool's Directors of Football/negotiating team. We tried playing this game as if it's any old corporate business. It's not, it's incredibly unique and can't simply be learned by being thrown in at the deep end.

We are shite.

They already have, apparently willing to accept 23m instead of his 36m release clause
Yeah, but if you're the one desperate to sell and worried we won't make a bid, give us a price we wouldn't think twice about bidding.

This whole terms agreed with agent business, I’m absolutely convinced it’s the new like that agents are pushing to journalists to create a buzz around their players. They know full well that United won‘t dispute it publicly because if you begin squashing one rumour you have to do all of them and that becomes a mess when some are true.

We keep quiet on transfer links for good reason and unfortunately these sort of sagas are a consequence of that.

But we want a structured deal......with ad ons

£5m + £5m for winning prem + £7m for winning CL + £3m Ballon d’or + £3m top goal scorer

Are you suggesting that Porto wouldn't know the difference between agent-created hype and genuine interest?

soooo we arent actually in for him then and just utds board trying to make themselves look busy but actually doing nothing?

We’ve already seen that there is little contact between clubs up until intermediaries have agreed everything. Porto’s concern could very well be that this United interest is agent generated.

If anything I would rather believe that Porto's concern is that Utd are using them. If Porto and the player have had talks over his contract and the selling price, then there has to have been a genuine approach. Whether there is genuine interest behind that approach is what might be questionable.

Looks like a Gaitan situation to me.

I know right? When will people learn not to buy into transfer stories regarding players playing in Portugal? Basically pay no attention till you see them holding the shirt

United are using them for what exactly?

Anyone see a pattern here ? We agree personal terms with the player , then don't talk with the club for a while and then try lowballing the transfer with a low fee- hoping the selling club would agree to it ?

Convince the fans that there is activity; create a smokescreen for other transfers...
Why the feck is it needed? Chelsea, Liverpool, City do transfers without smokescreens, and it’s all good and well. You just need to actually sign deals instead of doing nothing

Honestly don't know why anyone believes these random Twitter accounts, surely it's best to wait until something solid is mentioned in the British media before having such a huge debate about it.

He needs to stay fit for him to rise to the occasion. Don’t see it happening.

Maybe if hes not expected to play every game he might stay fit. He was ran into the ground last season and eventually broke.

I”ve never seen him play so I can’t judge the player, but I”m hoping that he’s someone who can play in both full back positions...
