Alex Telles - SIGNED for United

Signing a pretty average LB when we have Shaw as 1st choice and Williams/Dalot/TFM as back up seems a bit odd to me at this stage in the window.

We need to finalise Sancho, or do something for the RW. We need a CB. We need to replace Ighalo. We need to sell a whole bunch of players.

Telles, whenever i have seen him looks average. He will admittedly be better than Williams but he's not what we need to focus on right now.

With his contract ending soon - 23mil seems pricey. But we'll probably pay it cos we are the biggest joke in transfers in world football

I don't disagree that we need a CB or RW, but maybe I'm being stupid here - Dalot/TFM play RB, and Shaw is made of glass - it's a case of "when" not "if" he gets injured this season, especially if he has to play every fixture because we don't have any decent rotation options - Which leaves us relying very heavily on Brandon who still has a way to go to develop.

Really tough to sell our garbage players in this climate. Who'll want to buy Lingard, Jones, Rojo and Pereira?

We can't even sell Smalling who came off a decent season with Roma.

I'd persoanlly like to see him come in and replace Luke Shaw at left back, not be a back up to him.

Depending on the game and formation, we could also try Shaw out again at LCB and Telles as the LWB.

I just don't rate Shaw's attacking ability but he is good at actually defending.

I dont think he will be a back up to Shaw. Williams/Dalot/TFM is just the worst possible list of players as a back up. Dalot doesnt look to have any future here and TFM is as meh as they come. William's future should be RB anyway.

Sancho isnt coming as thats dead in the water for weeks now. It's only muppets keeping hopes alive.

I wouldnt be surprised if Telles is the only addition, and no outgoings. We will suffer this season.

Alex Telles (27 ) is very close to being a new Manchester United player.

The left back would arrive for 25M € .

Big signing of the 'red devils', who were looking for a player in that position.

The 'Dragao' will have to look for a substitute.

@ojogo

As others have said we absolutely should be signing him in view to becoming our first team LB. If he's not good enough to do that then why are we buying him? We have lacked attacking threat from full backs since Evra. It's so obvious an area we need to improve.

You've spun this some mad way.

23mil is a decent price for a talented attacking LB in his prime. We need an attacking LB. Big time.

If we get an attacking LB and a good RW both sides will be MUCH stronger, particularly important against teams playing the low block.

Everything I know about Telles comes from this thread. Which rightly or wrongly gives me the indication that he's a wingback more than a fullback.

With this in mind, I think a 3-5-2 would almost work if Telles signs up. But it'd leave a doubt in my mind about Williams/AWB doing the job on the opposite flank.

It's a case of 'buy two wingbacks or don't buy any', imo. Buying Telles alone wouldn't be enough. Unless Ole's putting all his faith in Laird, which would be a massive risk in itself.

Nah he's a full back, never played wing back.

Or you should just take a break !

Some mad way?

Sorry im concerned about the state of our disjointed squad.

Telles may step up and be a good signing, my point is we are desperate for a RW, a CB and a Striker. They should all come before Telles.

He doesnt look that good either - which is a worry

Imagine thinking Telles is average.

He offers delivery ability that our other fullbacks don’t.

Absolutely we need a RW and by January we’ll need another striking option but the necessity of one position doesn’t mean ignorance of others should be the policy.

We all know Sancho is the dream but at least we are allegedly making plans for other players and not leaving it last minute.

I dont agree that the price is terrible he’s at a peak age with plenty of experience and is consistently arguably the best LB in Liga Nos.

What you've just mentioned has nothing to do with your mad spin.

Claiming only our board would be stupid enough to pay 23mil for him? He's worth 23mil.

And I dont agree that we need a CF before an attacking fullback.

And you wont get a CB or RW for 23mil.

Telles has months left on his contract and he's worth more than what Liverpool paid for Thiago, an actual world class player.

We are over paying in my opinion yes.

And Hazard went for how much with months on his contract?

You can't compare every transfer.

Telles is worth 23mil to us. If Porto sign him to an extra year, hes then worth how much? How about 2 years?

It is quite irrelevant how long is left, we need an attacking fullback this season.

How is this odd? Shaw is an injury risk in regular times let alone when you have to play twice a week. The other three are right backs.

Brazilians never do well at UTD. Only Raphael was good, but he was young and impressionable.

Surprised to see the thread comments I've spoken to friends who reiterate that he's a good player. I've seen Regulion play and know he has been underrated but supposedly statistically Telles has been solid.

The reason this transfer's taking so long is because both Porto and United are negotiating via intermediaries. They are: Pini Zahavi (Telles' agent) and Jorge Mendes (:nervous:).
The Guardian and Record articles were published before Arthur Quezada published his report. What's interested is that Quezada confirms what Jamie Jackson pointed out about our fee. The reason why this is taking longer than expected is because of the intermediaries working on the transfer: Pini Zahavi (Telles' representative and my guess: representing us) and Jorge Mendes (my guess: representing Porto).

Remember the Koulibaly-to-City saga; that's been dragged on because the player's agent is representing 3 parties. Here, we have agents doing the work for the clubs with Pini Zahavi representing two parties (Telles and us) and Mendes representing Porto. Because of this, Quezada mentioned that Porto have yet to receive an offer from the club.

Alex Telles I believe will be an obvious upgrade on the left back position for United. He is a very capable defender and is a threat on the offensive end as well both with his good set piece taking ability, crossing, and shooting. He will help solidify your defense for sure,

Telles has been the best left back in the league every season he was at Porto IMO and I think most followers of the leagues opinion. Based on the fact Porto are in financial troubles I have no doubt United got him for a good fee which makes this a no brainer. Telles also has mileage on his legs as by this stage in his career he is experienced for a championship winning team and CL constant.

All in all solid pickup for Manchester United. Will be be a "world class" left back? at 27 already I would say no but I think at the moment he is a starter in this United team and helps improve the team.

Hope this helps mate!

This is all I needed to read. Hope we get Telles over the line.

Which seasoned Brazilians have we bought?
Not the point. Whoever we have bought from Brazil haven't worked out.
I notice, unless South Americans grow up here (Raphael) or have played a few seasons in the EPL already, they never settle and kick on.
Just an observation.

Don't really have a big same to choose from do we? Outside of Fred all of the signings mainly teenagers for academy really. Anderson I guess went into the first team but we got him at 19.

A seasoned Brazilian may well work out fine.

3 players isn't a particularly useful sample size to be fair.

Didn't really work out for (he that I shall not name) who ran to PSG. I know he's not Brazilian, but close enough.
In any case, I hope I'm wrong, I doubt it though.

Are we still agreeing to agree on a potential idea to agree on an agreed upon price so we only have 10 more steps to go before the window shuts?

I thought these were the generally accepted stages of a United transfer window:
  • Denial
  • Anger
  • Bargaining
  • Depression
  • Acceptance

That is what the stress of a Utd transfer window does to you
Exactly what I was thinking

"Supporting Manchester United has ruined my life, I'm only 31 years old!"
