Alex Song

Nah. Its just something he has made up.
He'll probably go for around 15m

It's worse than that Steve, he just doesn't enjoy football at all. I don't know why he bothers with his blog since no one is reading.

Gotta love his idea of 'scoop', mate. :D

RVP has gone to Man United.

Wasn't planning to write about Arsenal till Friday but I had to post this scoop.

What an exclusive!

What exactly do they need him for?

They already have players like Fabregas on the bench sometimes.

Always surprises me when people want to see a really weak Arsenal.

Ok, so it's fun to laugh at them, but this is the side that regularly keeps Liverpool out of the top four and kept Chelsea out last season.

It's probably because of comments like these:

White out or nöt Jenkinson's a better defender than Man Utd's 1st choice RB.

Whilst Wenger is in charge Arsenal will always finish in the top 4. So no worries in that front. I think Chelsea will finish above them though but with the money they spend it's completely understandable.

Chelsea will mount a serious title challenge this season. It seems that 99% of you are underestimating them by quite a margin.

Arsenal though

They won't. Actually they've been overrated by pretty much everyone on here for the past three years and I'm glad that most people have finally realised how far from the side of 2005-08 this current Chelsea are.

I'm getting overexposed on Arsenal at 3/1 w/o top 2. It's just to good to turn down.

Got to say I agree with Cider on this. Chelsea have made some excellent signings and quite possibly have the best midfield in the league. Strength in depth in defence. Still question marks over the front line. But it says it all when Oscar's been talked of being loaned back out. I don't think they'll win it, but everyone has said it'll be another two-horse race. The players like Di Matteo, will still be on a high, and should be there or thereabouts.

They have signed two very good players for similar positions, what's so excellent about that? We've also signed two very good players, do you really think Oscar and Hazard will provide more for them than Kagawa and van Persie for us?

Strength in depth in defence? They have Cole for the left back and Ivanovic for the right back with no senior cover unless you include a crap right back Ferreira. They have three centre halves - Cahill, Terry and Luiz and no one else. Where do you see this supposed strength in depth? That's actually the second thing, apart from the attack, that they need to address as soon as possible.

Also, their midfield isn't as good as City's and di Matteo is an average manager.

Chelsea haven't signed ready-made players. Hazard, Oscar and Marin are just 'potential', they may need a full season to adapt to the Premier League, like Mata did. Cech, Terry, Lampard and Cole aren't getting any younger and Cahill and Luiz don't look convincing.

Chelsea should be considered title challengers considering the money they have dished out on players. But they rode their luck last season, they would do well just to retain the one cup. Di Matteo would be sacked regardless if Roman can convince Pep to join.

Yeah, full backs are a bit exposed, although I reckon Betrand can provide adequate cover for an ever-present Cole. And Essien could probably do a job at RB.

CB: Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill and Luiz. Plenty.
Midfielders: Lampard, Essien, Ramires, Mikel, Oscar, Benayoun, Meireles, Mata.
Wingers: Malouda, Marin, Hazard.

I'd say five of their midfielders could get into our team.

Like I said, I don't think they'll win it, but I can't see anyone else getting third.

You cannot count Ivanovic as a CB because you put him there and you're left with no RB.

Yeah I think they will comfortably be top 4, somewhat underrated I feel. Di Matteo might not be a great manager, but he's far better than AVB was under them and his tactics suit the team more and get the most out of their best players, particularly Mata.

They need a RB though, Ivanovic has already shown that he can get sent off and the season hasn't even started. If he's banned or injured they're screwed a bit, Essien isnt the same player he used to be when he played right back, so I can't see that being a solution. More likely is Ramires playing there.

Essien's horrendously overrated nowadays. He was one of the best in the world, but after his couple of knee ops he is nowhere near the same player as he was. He has lost a lot of his mobility and pace and is now a glorified De Jong in my opinion. They won't hold onto him for much longer.

So any news on Alex Song?

What's he got to do with anything?

Seriously though, as far as I know the links with Barca do seem to be getting stronger. They can't do what they did last season and panic buy a handful of players. Szczesny, Sagna and Vermaelen aren't enough to compete for the top four nowadays I don't think. Pivotal to keep him.

He's one I'd have loved at United, but with us getting RVP, that couldn't be much more off the cards.

What I don't quite get is Barca's need for him. Busquets, Fabregas and Iniesta all have a long time ahead of them, and Xavi could still provide a good few seasons yet.

If Song goes, the Voyeur's dream is being completely dismantled brick by brick. Barely a sand castle left.

"The Wasted Years" -- that will be Wenger's new book.

Cheers for that, I definitely agree with your last paragraph. Though I think Mascherano should be included as well given he's only 28. You've got to wonder how much more of this Wenger can take if it goes through, must be incredibly frustrating. However, I don't want that "hairstyle" anywhere near Manchester United. We've got Anderson for that shit already.

Anyways, apologies for derailing the thread lads, carry on.

@johncrossmirror: Wenger: no decision made on Song ; no bid yet from Barca. admits he is 'following' Sahin

I know it's twitter but since it's a journo I presume he's said as much in an article somewhere. The fact they're even talking about a decision doesn't suggest anything good for Arsenal.

Not sure what Wenger is upto. He needs to stop letting his players go every summer and take a stand against the board to start releasing some funds. If Song goes, they'll again be resorted to panic buys as they did last season.

Taking that into account, the French tactician concedes that Song will be allowed to move on if a suitable package is put to the Gunners.

Asked whether the midfielder could be sold and new signings brought in, Wenger said: "Both could happen, but my focus is on the Sunderland game (on Saturday).

"Midfield is an area where we have much more freedom to make decisions."

He's off.

There's not much you can do when players want to leave. I hope you're going to receive a good fee for Song if he goes because Barcelona are well capable of unsettling him to the extent that you'll have to sell him for £12m or something. Now watch Fabregas and a few others to come out and say that Song should come to Barca to fulfil his potential.
