Alex Song

Also unless Barca are signing him as a potential centerback I don't see how he gets into the team ahead of Busquets or Thiago.

Well. Here are my thoughts.

Song is much much much easier to replace than van Persie. For € 18 million Wenger can buy M'Vila or Capoue (I don't know why Barcelona isn't going for Capoue tbh, but maybe it's funnier WUMing Arsenal).

Agreed really, in particular regarding Capoué - a player I have liked for a few seasons now...The only plausible explanation is that since it's depth the club is after, the more experienced in European football, the better...Etienne is still a noob although a raw talent still...M'Vila is the name I've heard quite a bit as the Song replacement for Wenger

But spot on regarding Song's value to Arsenal

Song is definitely more replaceable than RvP. I also think he'll be one of those players who goes off and does feck all at his new club and comes back to Birmingham or summat in two years time.

Anything over 20 millions is great business for the club.

Didnt Song come out and say he wants to stay at Arsenal the other day?

I can't believe Arsenal would consider selling him if thats the case, certainly not for the sort of fee being mentioned.

Has Wenger not learned that shipping all the experience out of his squad isn't really the best strategy?

I doubt Song will leave, for one my Arsenal mate seems pretty assured that won't happen.
He's incredibily pissed @ Barca (who wouldn't be when you're an Arsenal fan) for trying to tap up Song, but at the same time Song came out and said he wants to stay.

I hope it's off, for the next week at any rate, as it will increase the likelihood of Sahin joining us.

No he didn't, he kept his options open by saying what players nearly always say (in the same situation) these days.

'I am not going to lie if I said there is no interest but I am at Arsenal and I am happy at Arsenal.

'Barcelona are the best team in the world, and speculation will always continue until the window closes.'

Fair enough, I should have worded my post better. Still though he seems pretty sure that Song's going nowhere, and he's not exactly a glass half-full kind of guy.

So why don't Barca buy Capoue or M'Vila then?

I imagine for the reasons I mentioned already, the lack of European experience really...The club won't gamble on a player that fails to rapidly acclimate, even if they are being brought in for depth...I think because they feel the need to reproduce Keita's strength in the rotation and logically they want someone they can feel highly confident will contribute straight away...They know Song, they've faced him on several occasions and have an intimate teammate who knows the character of the player, as well - meaning he would fit into the chemistry of the team, something that is not taken lightly

Still, Etienne Capoué - I think a player with a bright future

I hope he's basing it on something more substantial than Wenger saying so.
I'd have to engage in a 1 on 1 debate with him to be able to clearly describe his reasons to you, but he's like me in a lot of ways, as in not believe every shitty rumour that's out there and actualy try to find things out before making assumptions without a platform to stand on basicaly.
I'm sure he's got multiple reasons, not just the recent interview, otherwise he wouldn't be so sure, calm and collected but rather would turn into a lesser version of the Hulk and start smashing things.

Barcelona close to clinching £15m move for Arsenal midfielder Alex Song

The Barcelona vice-president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, flew to London yesterday to tie up midfielder Alex Song's £15m move from Arsenal.

Bartomeu returned to Barcelona last night confident that Song will sign in time for their first La Liga game of the season at home to Real Sociedad this weekend.

The Cameroon international looks set to be reunited with Cesc Fabregas who made the same move last summer. Barça face Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup a week tomorrow and have so far only added Valencia full-back Jordi Alba to the side that finished second to Jose Mourinho's team last season.

Song still has two years left on his contract at Arsenal but it is believed manager Arsène Wenger is willing to do a deal if the price is right, with Rennes' Yann M'Vila reportedly lined up as a replacement.

..

Little chance of Song going anyway, no chance now.

AFC Amden says this

Alex Song's attitude has been "disgusting" of late, and Arsene has had enough. He's been told he can leave. #AFC

How many fecking CMs does Barcelona need?

So next season if Manchester Utd meets Barcelona, it will be like 2-1-7 vs. 2-8-0, is that it?

Still think he's over-rated. Will be funny to see the Arsenal fans changing their opinion on him.

Don't think Song would be a big miss. That is if Diaby is fit.

Diaby is average, but if Wilshere could return to fitness and play well then I agree that they could probably afford to lose Song for a good fee, with Ramsey, Wilshere and Arteta in the centre of midfield.

Wtf. I thought this was a no go but losing Song and RVP is a huge blow for them. Like I said, 3 steps forward 10 back.

Also why do Barca even want him when he plays in their strongest position.

I would suggest we make a bid, but we don't want too much of the arsenal mentality in our squad

Diaby's never fit and he's miles behind Song, you're plain wrong here. Song will be a big loss.
He is, but four years ago he couldn't break into the first eleven -- Song was only selected as a midfielder when Wenger realised Denilson wasn't cut enough to replace Flamini.

He can pass the ball intrinsically to a forward, yet so can Diaby. Maybe Wenger might actually sign a defensive midfielder.

We're signing or going after wingers/attackers and Barca the doing the opposite and going after midfielders, despite their obvious lack of defenders.

our strategy will do us good in the league but in europe it is all about midfield and attackers dropping into midfield these days.

If you asked barca lads if they'd rather win cl or la liga (or vilanova or their supporters) i reckon the vast majority would say the CL.

We always prioritize the league first and foremost.

Isnt that twitter guy reliable?
Another weird summer for Arsenal.
Still time to get back in the market and get a couple of players I guess.
