Alex Sandro

Guess which one is a midfielder and which one is a "wide left". Obviously discounting the amount of touches for Kroos, I'm talking purely about their position on the pitch. France played in a loop sided formation with a midfield 3.

Furthermore, I think Matuidi did a job more centrally versus Belgium than in the rest of the games? I remember Pogba telling Matuidi to get inside as he was tracking Fellaini into the box.

Matuidis heat map vs Croatia was quite different.

No, he played the same role the entire competition. The tactical trick is that France only played in 442 when the opposition was deep into France's half which was the case against Croatia and was also the worst game for France's midfield.

I think this is a decent discussion, just taking this thread way off topic.

Surely Juventus will need to offload a few players to fit the Ronaldo bill on the budget so there has to be some hope here

I'm not so sure about this. They're a massive club and the fee wasn't that high. Also, I think Fiat is footing a big chunk of the bill. The Ronaldo transfer might not have as much of an impact as we think. If I were Sandro I'd want to stay at Juve now just to have a chance to play with Ronaldo to be honest.

I love that 100 millions is now a "not that high" fee. They've spent only 55 millions more to build their stadium, ffs

They also pay him around 30 millions per year, I think

Matuidi played wide left most of the tournament in place of Dembele. He did work very hard from that position, but not hard enough to also play in central midfield.
No way Matuidi has played wide left. He has played as defensive CM (on the left of a midfield 3). He covered and helped a lot Hernandez on the left when defending to allow Griezmann to be more offensive minded.

Well that's how it is in the current market. 100 mil for the best player in the world, possibly the GOAT, just is not a lot. And isn't part of his salary paid by Fiat?

It's a lot, but Juve have a crap ton of money atm, from years of shrewd spending. They can have big summers every few years.

You said that the fee wasn't that high, which is not true — it's enormous. The quality of a player is completely irrelevant here. It's a good deal for them, without a doubt, but a deal that requires a lot from them financially (Juventus, however big they are, just aren't a marketing money-making machine like United or Madrid).

How is the quality of a player not relevant financially? They might not be a marketing money-making machine right now but by getting Ronaldo their marketing potential has just doubled. They can use this signing to get better sponsorship deals. Of course, it is a lot of money. However, we don't know the details and Fiat are rumoured to be footing a large part of the bill through sponsorship. If that's true, they probably don't need to sell.

That's not possible under FFP, Otherwise whole PSG squad's wages will be paid by some Qatar's company, same with City's,

That's not how things work though, is it?
Going by that, Madrid must be having some 450-500 million pounds sitting in their account under the tab - un used transfer budget as they have not spend much or anything in the last 3-4 years.

Juve don't have a crap ton of money and even if they do, it's not their club policy to go spend it all on players. I read somewhere that when Allegri renewed, his main condition was that several new players had to be brought in as their squad was very old. And so they have. And Ronaldo was an opportunity, a WC player for 100 mill and apparently the clause was applicable only to Italian Clubs. Just because they did that, I wouldn't consider Juve to go behind galacticos now, they will be the same stingy club who go behind free transfers

You're telling me they aren't? City have grown as much as they have because some rich fecker decided that way. He owns the club and pays for everything, just like the parent company of Fiat owns Juventus. They can hide it by just giving Juventus/Ronaldo more money in a "sponsorship deal" or whatever they come up with to get around FFP. They'll have Ronaldo advertising the new Fiat Punto and that's that.

Well he can sign new contracts with them, but they can't pay wages. They can obviously make all the arrangements for sponsorship deals though.

Anyways this is just PR stunts, to show how they are not paying big wages but some helping hand is paying. End of the day he is going to cost 30 million wages net per year to Juventus.

I am pretty sure that they will come up with some very convenient "tax arrangement" with him also. Italian clubs and their govt are as corrupt as they come.

Sandro would be an immense upgrade on what we already have, and would massively strengthen our relatively weak left side. He can play in a back three or a back four, and is outstanding coming forward, with the confidence and dribbling skill to beat a man and push forward. From what I have seen of Sandro, he is one of the closest players to Patrice Evra I have seen.

The guy has better crossing ability than anyone at our club, varying between low driven crosses and lofted curling ones, Lukaku feeding off his crossing ability is an exciting prospect. He was a consistent threat for Juve last season, contributing four assists and scoring three goals. Sandro combines his excellent attacking ability with responsible and effective defending. He averaged 2-3 successful tackles and 2.2 interceptions per 90 minutes and he was beaten 0.4 times per 90 on average.

If it is true that Juve have reduced his asking price there, singing him would be an absolute must for us and along with a CB like Alderweireld or Bonucci, would upgrade our back line to being one of the best in the league. Its because of these reasons that he is so perfect for us, I have no hope of us getting him :(

There are posters on here who think he's no better than Ashley Young.

I hope we can wrap this up, PSG have been continuously linked with him too. Hopefully Darmian can be useful to us for a change and help get this deal over the line.

He’s off to the States for the Juve pre-season tour so nothing imminent on the cards it seems. Not surprising really as no major publications have picked it up yet either.

We’re also in the US too tbf so wouldn’t read much into that.

That said, I'd be surprised if we were in for Sandro now, with only a few weeks left of the window if we wanted him I think we'd have made our move a while ago.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. Really don't think people should get their hopes up about this one.

As is Rugani who is reportedly on the brink of joining Chelsea.

Sandro would be an upgrade on Young. Sandro wouldn’t need to keep cutting on to his right foot to cross the ball. But I’m also a fan of Young’s.

This one isn’t happening guys, it would have happened already if we were going to sign him.

He didn’t go to the World Cup, we’ve had plenty of time.

Juve's other alternative at LB got a long term injury, and they've yet to sign a replacement. In addition they've just splashed heavily on Ronnie.

Not that I think he's coming but that doesn't really mean anything as United are also in the states.

This is all Darmian and Shaw’s fault. Young and Valencia had to answer an SOS for us, they were never even meant to be full-backs for us, and would probably have been sold years ago as just wingers.

This is 100% not happening in my view. It’s this year’s Fabinho. Until Shaw is sold we aren’t bringing in a new left-back.

My only hope now is we are going to bring in a twenty goal wide forward, or someone like Lewandowski and play Lukaku on the right of a front three.

Where does the crap about Valencia not being a full back come from? He’s been doing it very very well for numerous seasons. He’s no longer a winger and he’s no makeshift right back. He plays 1 position, that’s it.

Fair play, happy to hold my hands up, and to @MetoTTT as well, goes to show how important it is to pay proper attention to games if you're gonna draw conclusions from them. Seemed like most times I noticed him he was sticking wide to track the right full-back, but I guess I'm probably unconciously giving undue prevalence to the Croatia game a lot there.

I've said it a few times but I think the idea was going for Tierney but Celtic have said no chance this season, we activated the year extension on Shaw's contract so I reckon we'll give Shaw one last chance this year whilst we wait for Tierney, if Shaw comes good we can save some money on a LB and if he doesn't we can let his contract expire and move for Tierney. There's nothing grounded in fact there, just my gut feeling, I know Castles mentioned us being interested in Tierney at one point.

FFS not saying it will happen but him traveling with the squad means nothing. Remember when Morata traveled to the US - hell even trained next to our team despite being heavily linked to us to the point of him dying his hair, only for it to fall through and the made a last minute move to Chelski? For whatever reason they like to drag these things out, probably because of a pricing standoff.

So far the only one who seems to be reporting this transfer is Castles. Haven't seen anything from other reliable journalists, including Di Marzio.

I think Sandro will be a great addition to the team, don’t get me wrong I thing young has had an excellent season and World Cup but Sandro will give us that burst of pace and aggression with balls into the box via his left peg, really want this one to happen.
