Alex Sandro

Hope Shaw doesn't leave. Fans have turned on him quite fast for dumb reasons. But he's better than Young. If Mourinho plays him way more then last season and he doesn't get bloody injured, Utd are sorted for the LB position. But since I know Man Utd, the better players are always on the bench :D

Based on what is Shaw better than Young? Blind faith in young players does no one any favours.

Yeah, he is within his right to make it hard for us. I'd do the same thing. From his pov, if we didn't want him that desperately, why did we invoke our option?

You'd waste another year of your career, waste your chance to play euro 2020 just to sit on your arse and earn a bit more money?

I can't stand players with that attitude

The part I can't get on the money side is that will he really generate a big signing on fee or basic wage if he wastes another year with us? I think not.

Last season when Shaw late in the season came on, he has blistering pace on at the wing, him and Sanchez would be lethal. Also he nearly scored 2 goals in his last 3 matches and proved to be a proper threat rather then doing the bare minimum like Young by crossing it in every time to the opposition like Valencia. I just believe if he doesn't get injured and gets a consistent amount of games, he'll be great.

Close to joining PSG according to reports. Shame really, he would have solved a huge issue for us

I don't think his ability was ever in question by our fans. It's his mentality. No pint having even Messi on the bench if he didn't want to play or get fit.

Would be a great signing for United as Shaw looks too unprofessional to ever play the top league. We want the league stronger so even tho I may have a soft spot for Liverpool I would love Sandro signing for United. Make the Premier League stronger. Especially when the best PL players are leaving for Spain or Italy.

Alex is top dogg, would be my priority over Bonnuci any day of the week.

Can you imagine going into next season with Young and Valencia as our starting full backs?

I think that's what will happen.
In fact, I am now begining to think that we will be starting the season with pretty much the same team which finished last season.

 still going on about us signing a 3rd choice keeper. You have to wumming at this point.

Because that's all we've done.
We have signed 3 players....if you want, I can ignore all 3 players and say that we've signed nobody. But then people would (rightfully) moan about that as well.
The fact is we have signed 3 players, only one of which is likely to get first team action.

Fast? He’s been useless the entire time he’s been here and a fat fecker multiple times

The board/club are doing exactly this - they are conceding the title to MCFC, by signing a 35 yr old GK, a 19 yr old RB and Fred.

“If I can answer very simply and candidly. Playing performance doesn't really have a meaningful impact on what we can do on the commercial side of the business."

True.

I don't know why we don't just stump up the extra €10M, he's likely the only signing left for us to make in this window and we've barely spent anything in modern terms.
Is it reported anywhere that United are not signing more players?

We aren't really being linked with anyone, the 3 CB's we got linked with are all off the table for different reasons and Bale is a pipe dream of the marketing men, there's only 3 weeks left until the window shuts and this is the only player we are being linked with by a semi credible journo.

=The world ends.

LB, RW and maybe a backup striker.

I think you are underestimating the significance of the Fred signing. I think he will transform the way we play through the midfield with faster transitions and give the midfield more tenacity and creativity.

Think Fred will be our most important signing this window and he will be vital to our team this season and the future.

Pogba and Matic are not particularly fast...can't expect Fred to make all the difference in midfield. We needed two world class midfielders to elevate our midfield. Secondly, if we don't intend on pursuing a RW, we need to go all out to strengthen the CBs and full backs to provide width. Alex Sandro will also work wonders for the left side.

Our formation and tactics need to change or we'll end up losing some of our best players.

Pogba was world class and won the world cup with Kante as a central midfield of two. Fred has the same tenacity as Kante but has bigger range of passing and more creativity. I think Fred is that good that we can even play Pogba in a midfield two again but if we play three there we will dominate more games through mid.

But agree on Alex Sandro he would fix a position we had trouble with since Evra.

Surely Juventus will need to offload a few players to fit the Ronaldo bill on the budget so there has to be some hope here

Pogba has played in a midfield 3 in Russia (Kante, Matuidi & Pogba). Matuidi is a really hard working player. I think he (Pogba) could play in a midfield 2 against lesser teams, it depends on his attitude and determination.

That is a midfield 4. :p

Matuidi played wide left most of the tournament in place of Dembele. He did work very hard from that position, but not hard enough to also play in central midfield.

I can see us playing with Young and Valencia for another season. For a club of Manchester United standard, this is not good enough. What is going on at this great club.

There's every possibility that in at least one or two matches this season we could line up with Valencia, Jones, smalling, and Young as our back four. How that's still the case is baffling and frankly unacceptable.

Guess which one is a midfielder and which one is a "wide left". Obviously discounting the amount of touches for Kroos, I'm talking purely about their position on the pitch. France played in a loop sided formation with a midfield 3.

Just one game or two? I'd say a lot more than that. Maybe up to 20 games or something. They were the back four in our biggest game of last season - FA Cup Final. This despite us buying the likes of Shaw, Darmian, Rojo, Lindelof, Bailly. What a shambles. What a shambles of a transfer strategy.

It's funny, how people are really struggling with that one.

I agree that Matuidi did the job of a midfielder. Similar to what a winger would under Ferguson (Park, Beckham, Hargreaves and even Fletcher). I also thought Giggs was great at tracking back, but probably wider than some of the other players. Ferguson loved having a hard working wide player.

Maybe, considering how much Matuidi ment to Pogba, it is understandable that Mourinho want a hard working wide player too (Willian, Perisic)?

This. It's more likely to be around 50% of our games or more. The only one I see being replaced as it stands is Jones, if Bailly can stay fit and mistake free or maybe even Lindelöf gets a starting role.
