Aleksandr Golovin

Well that just isn’t true. And I didn’t even watch today’s game. But I’ve seen Golovin before and he certainly isn’t a work horse as opposed to technical. He played United twice last year for a start and showed plenty of ability.

I don't mean he has no technical ability but he's more like Oscar than Eriksen. I can see the appeal to Mourinho

Look decent but not the type of player who would add anything to our squad. But I do realize that I am basing my judgement on grand total of one game.

I rate him
Can play on the left and in the middle.
If/when Martial goes he can be cover on the left and in the middle, a position which we lack depth.

When we were linked to him originally it was what £20m? That'd be a safe investment if Jose fancies him.

Didn’t realise he was only 21. Was great today, reckon he’ll end up at a decent club.

Not at the moment, no, he doesn't lack workrate but his positioning is sometimes questionable. With time — hopefully.
Yeah, it's only a matter of time before he makes the transition á la Modric, D.Silva, Isco, in my opinion. If he joins a bigger club in one of the top leagues, he can adjust to that level by playing out wide/in a 3 like the aforementioned players, and once settled I think he could become a great CM. I think his passing is a bit hit and miss but the technique and ideas behind his passes are there so hopefully, in time, he becomes more consistent in that department.

For what it's worth, I think he's already a decent CM having watched him both times against ourselves, Arsenal and Benfica.

Based on this game, you'd think Cherykov was a great player, and we know he just isn't, couldn't even get consistent game time last season. Saudi Arabia were woeful.

Don't get too carried away with Golovin, he's more work horse than a technical creative player.

Cheryshev is good rather than great, but he hasn't played much because he's had a lot of injuries that have badly hampered his career. He's done well when fit enough the few times i've watched him.

As for Golovin he's a mix of workhorse and technician. He's the kind of player that can do almost all the fundamentals for a centre\side midfielder to a high standard for bottom half of the top ten Euro leagues like Russia, Portugal, Netherlands... At a higher level it's likely he'll have to refine aspects of his style to succeed rather than try to get involved in everything, at least at one of the major clubs, assuming he doesn't outright flop for other reasons like mentality etc.

I think its still not late for us to jump in, 20m seems to be the price atm and it might go up. Looks to be an wonderful player, yeah still its Saudi team.It would be interesting to see how he performs against better teams,Egypt and Uruguay.

Would be a steal for 20m euros :wenger:

Can't see that being the final price, worse players have gone for double that recently.

He does look pretty good though, I was impressed with him in the CL against us also. He's quite fast but has good decision making and technical skills.

As somebody said above, he does remind me of a young Eriksen.

Guys, he played well against Saudis. The way players are hyped up during world cups sometimes really is ridiculous. This is the team that made Jancker look like a world beater a few years back.
Indeed

Carl Frampton said last night, if you're gran had Saudi ancestry and could do 15 keepy uppies, she'd get in that side!

They are camel shit

Don't Russian players have a very hard time adapting to life outside of Russia? That may be a generalisation of sorts but there aren't many that have been successful outside of the Motherland.

True. I remember the hype generated by Kapustka during his short appearance against Northern Ireland at the last Euro.

He turned out to be completely crap.

I'm not basing anything on that game, though. I've said for months what a top talent he is, and had him down as my breakthrough star of this tournament.

This, 1000 times. Let's see how he performs if the next 2 games. This was the easiest game they could have started with of all the teams involved in the World Cup

It was so weird seeing them, like something out of the early 90‘s when it comes to Asian sides. Unfit, slow, most of them sporting a belly...my local 4th league team is in WAY better shape.

A lot of people are though. Or rather, taking this as a confirmation for what others have said beforehand. Honestly, the only times I saw him this season, he looked pretty average. (Very good) Eurocup level player for the likes of Stuttgart, Everton etc.

Fair enough!

Possibly the worst team on this competition, still have to see if Panama is worse.

What a blast from the past
Guy was an absolute tank.

I think he is a good talented player....but doesnt fit in our side at all as a big improvement. Think £20/25m in todays market if he can settle (as lots of Russians seem to struggle) he is an absolute bargain for somebody.....but none of the elite teams, he isnt ready to move to most of them and doesnt fit in for us. A Spurs, Dortmund, Monaco type signing he would be really good.....think Ericksen, but Ericksen took time to settle at Spurs remember too.

Apparently available for only 25mill euro's and Juve, Arsenal and Chelsea are after him. For that price I'd love to see him here... He would offer us more than say, Mata, would

Do you think Lingard could play a similar role like Golovin?

Do you think Lingard could play a similar role like Golovin?

He already looks more technically gifted as a wide or central play maker than Jesse, certainly a better passer and is also 3.5 years younger but I doubt this is a player we would sign anyway, Jose seems quite content with Lingard, Mata etc.

Not saying we should sign him but he looks a talent and someone who I'm sure will improve.

Do you think Lingard could play a similar role like Golovin?

Maybe he could but we need to bolster the squad so we don't even have to choose. You never know. Maybe Lingard could play that role and maybe Golovin could play central. Sometimes that's what happens but we saw with Lingard, someone growing into his current role last season and we want to see if he can repeat that so it's not a good idea to move him about. We saw with Martial and others how it's not always easy.

I think with Fred already signed, we won't spend too much on a second midfielder if we was to sign one. Would love Milinkovic-Savic but doubt that will happen!

Would be a brilliant buy if we get him for around the 25m mark which has been quoted in the media, not sure how much his value would have rocketed by the end of the World Cup, but surely it won't have gone up by anymore than £35m-£40m? That's more than HALF of what Savic would go for!

Only just turned 22 and wouldn't expect to start every game, whereas a signing like Savic would expect to start. Midfield options of Pogba, Fred, Golovin, Matic, Herrera and potentially Fosu-Mensah (if he gets a look-in) would be quality! Even with injuries and/or suspensions we should be well stocked over the course of the season. No one would get complacent as they know if their form drops then we have options to replace them.

Carrick and Fellaini out and McTominay out on loan. Fred and Golovin in and Fosu-Mensah back from loan - can be our versatile option who can also play at RB and CB.

I am happy with that

Juventus want him and CSKA want 25 million.
We should jump in now.

Golovin and Lozano are the new shiny toys to emerge from the WC so far, let’s get one of them.

Come the QF CSKA will be asking for 35 million, decent player but hasn't really played a team with any quality.

Sell one of our players that don't play e.g. Blind Darmian shaw or whoever and roll the dice. Sure why not if it doesn't work with him it's 25m a spalsh in the ocean these days

I think Savic would cost more than 70m. Lazio is asking crazy money for him.
Golovin would be a good option to rotate with our midfielders for the price quoted.
