Aleksandr Golovin

I'd be flat out lying if I said I was familar with him, but I thought he looked good in the 2 matches against us and against Arsenal in the Europa League that I did see.

From the highlights I've watched of him he seems like a more dynamic and adventurous in possession version of Herrera. His work rate and tenacity does stand out. I could see this being a potentially shrewd option for CM depth.
Had the same thought.

I thought the Cafe wanted us to buy the De Ligts rather than the Alderweirelds.
Why is everyone suddenly having a problem with us buying the best upcoming players?
Oh because we need quality now
Then what's wrong with Toby and Sandro?
Too old?
Well experience comes with age, there are very few proven accomplished players aged 22-25

Can't speak much to his individual quality but a 22 year old CM known for his creativity and offensive play and is clear first choice for his country seems like a logical signing to be our 5th CM in a group with Pogba, Fred, Matic and Herrera since we'll need creativity when Pogba is not on the field and Herrera can be the backup 6 (I thought he played well when Matic was out).

Reminds me of Herrera of Bilbao days. Also has a bit of Lampard in him. I hope he achieves his full potential in Utd shirt.

Of all the YouTube vids I’ve watched of these players I know feck all about he’s the one that stands out for me, tenacious, skillfull and forward thinking and rather him than Arnautovic.

Golovin is a midfielder.

Not sure about that. He had an interview saying he wants to make it here (after being approached by Valencia). Unless he wants out, we don't really have a reason to sell. It's not like we're stocked up in midfield.
I just can’t see Mourinho wanting someone who didn’t fancy staying last year when our midfield was what it was. You may be right though, I wouldn’t mind though!

The Caf is hilarious. If Spurs were being linked with this lad, people would be falling over themselves to bash the club for not getting in early on such a highly rated kid.

I like him. He's cocky but kind and very very marketable. However Sergei is the brains between the two.

He's the standout talent in Russia's new generation. It's a shit generation though. He was linked with Arsenal previously and I think they're about his level — although I'll be glad to be proven wrong here. Quite likeable guy as well.

Smolov links are bs.

Isn't Smolov in the same mould as Arnautovic? And perhaps as talented? Haven't seen much tough tbf.
If Mou is on the hunt for a experienced back up to Lukaku it's not impossible?

The club really can’t win.

I don’t think anyone but insiders at the club know our targets buddy to be fair. It will be interesting to see who we buy and how many come the end of the market.

I would have thought we need at least one established world class performer though, someone in the mould of Greizmann or Kroos.

Looks tenacious in the tackle and gets his head up early looking for a forward pass. Impressive compilation but you can't really judge properly from a YouTube video.

I do like young signings though.

I'm sure he played against us in the group stages this year? He looked a nifty little player capable of carrying the ball forward, was one of Moscow's main outlets if he is indeed the player I remember.

Yeah he did.

All the moaning feckers in here are that big of a fan they don't even recall this.

Speaks volumes.

An established midfielder like Fred and a young talented second midfielder like him makes a lot of sense.

Not sure about Kroos (he’s brilliant albeit) but would like someone more dynamic like Bale or Griezmann personally.

I know nothing about him other than he was probably the best player on the pitch outside of Kanté during Russia-France.

I know nothing of him, never seen this lad or never heard of him.

We do need midfielders though, I've always said we should sign Fred and use Periera next season, but if a good player is available who can develop I'm all for it.

Herrera/Matic wont have many seasons left after all.

From the hype - it sounded like Barella was a better talent but this is based on nothing but chatter. Who knows who is better

He isn't that big or strong, despite being quite tall (1,87 m) — he is someone more akin to Aguero than to Arnautovic. Plus I doubt that he'll want to come as a substitute striker, I think he spoke at some point that he doesn't want to go abroad and sit on the bench. He wants to go abroad, but to the club where he would play — and he isn't good enough to realistically bench Lukaku

Anyone have an idea of what kind of midfielder Golovin is?

If we are getting Fred who is more B2B, I think our second midfield signings should be a number 6 who can defend and be able to dictate the play from deep. Basically someone to rotate the number 6 role with Matic and eventually replace him.

Oh and has there ever been a Russian player from the Russian League who has done well in one of the major European Leagues? Can't think of anyone from the top of my head

25, Kanchelskis was before my time as I didn't start supporting United until 2001/2002! Ah forgot about Ashavin! :D He was good for Arsenal. Zhirkov failed at Chelsea, no idea who Onopko and Karpin were until I did a quick Google search  and Odemwingie is a legend! :nervous::lol:

Cheers!

Maybe West ham will replace Arnautovic with him...:nervous:

What is this Reddit rumor??
It's not a reddit rumour, they're just talking about the Di Marzio article.

He said we want a striker and a young CM to take the place of Fellaini if he leaves.
