Alejandro Garnacho (out) | Chelsea make enquiries

He wasn’t top three of golden boy. Mainoo was, though.

Yes he was. Mainoo was 7th.

He also looks awful from the games I have seen him in, very much a Werner type, very fast but abysmal end product on most occasions.
Yeah he's not very good. Think Dortmund will have mugged Napoli well and proper if they get anything close to €50m for him. Glad to see them doing it to someone other than United for once!

Yeah I dont think this potential move is being driven by Amorim at all. This is all on Ineos and Glazers.
He’s only recently been getting into Amorims team though. If he can sell him for 60m and replace with a LWB and AM then he’d opt for that surely.

If this goes through I think it's just going to be a matter of how much we end up regretting it. For a player of his age to have as much experience at a top club (at least in terms of expectations and exposure) and the output he already has I think is pretty rare and even with his inconsistencies he's still one of our more dangerous players and his pace and willingness to run in behind is something very few in our team can offer. If he develops as you would expect a young player to do and works on his weaknesses I can't see him becoming anything less than a very good player and potentially more than that too but even if we don't see a huge change in his game over the next few seasons he'll still have some excellent performances for Chelsea in that time and if they decide to move him on I expect they'll be able to demand a very similar fee to the one they're rumoured to be offering.

The only way this transfer would be good for us is if it was silly money and even then it'd be sad to see him go because I don't really have any confidence in us to go out and replace him or improve the team in other areas with any competency.

You don't think his preference would keep Garnacho and have an actual living breathing LB in the squad?

This is interesting. A good performance tonight to try and persuade Napoli to spend the money on him you recon?

Maybe it’s all true that everyone is for sale and Chelsea are actually testing the waters. Strange move if we want to sell.

Amorim might see things different as well. Garnacho might find form and adjust to the new system.

I can see him stay at this point. Somewhat embarrassing if we sell a starting player. Let’s say he scores a couple of goals tonight. What then?

Why the hell would youdo that after all rashford has done? That's just giving in to player power which we're supposedly trying to end.

Because we gave him a huge contract and only him playing and scoring goals makes it worth it. Thats also when the bigger transfer offers will come in. Freezing him out will see us finding it far harder to sell him

How or why are you still pretending to be shocked and surprised at people not wanting to sell a talented youngster to Chelsea? You might not rate him, I don’t think he’s kicked on as much as I’d have hoped, and he doesn’t fit in this formation, but it seems really disingenuous to act like you don’t see other peoples perspective, the reasoning is obvious.
Why? He'll just get lost amogst the other hundred or so wingers they already have.

He's not kicked as hoped, doesn't fit in the formation but we still shouldn't sell him

Not really. I know he has his faults but he's 20 years old and has already done a lot in this league in a largely dysfunctional side. He was top 3 for Golden Boy right? Too see him potentially flourishing at Chelsea for years would be a bit sickening. You know the media would mention it every chance they got too.

He's so overrated it's not true.

I think it’s strange selling him. I believe he will learn the new system. It’s been like two months or so with Amorim. It’s not like Garnacho is the only player not playing good at the moment.

If we sell him it’s all Glazers/Ineos making money like a selling club would.

Pretty spot on really.

Since being dropped against City, there are clear signs he's adapting to the new system as well

Few are at the required level aged 20. He has his faults but he’s also shown some great things at such a young age. Gone appear to be the days when we give youngsters time. He’s a kid. He shouldn’t be starting so frequently for such a high profile dysfunctional side. In an ideal world he’s rotated in and out with more experienced players and the team doesn’t shit the bed on a weekly basis.
Scholes didn’t even make his full senior debut until he was 20, for example. I can’t help but thinking this is a bad move. Garnacho is currently one of the only players who can score, Bruno and Amad being the others, and there’s no guarantee whoever we buy will work any better.

Nani is one of the mot overrated players of all time for United.

Even Rashford was handsdown better.

Nani playing upfront with Hojlund instead of rooney would have been hilarious to watch

A purple patch of one season masked by playing as a squad player in arguably one of the two best United teams of all time.
I think you meant to post this on the "pretty stupid takes" thread

I am still mystified why PSR encourages clubs to move on home grown players rather than the other way around. Surely clubs should be encouraged to nurture local talent and embed them in the first team squad rather than shuffle them out the door for profit?

It only does for clubs in some very specific situations, which probably doesn't include United unless really high spending is planned. For most clubs PSR incentivices clubs to keep youth products and sell others.

Will be pretty funny if he ends up starting against us next month and fecks up about 3 counters and gets brushed off the ball easily while Chelsea fans are confused.
More likely he’s the new Welbeck and scores every time he faces us.

I can’t let go of the thought this wingbacks system is not the way United should play. It’s going to take 2-3 years of tough sledding to get a functioning Amorim team, and will we even like what we see then? We won under LVG and everyone hated the football style. Somehow this Amorim system has to be the be-all end-all, or we sack him and rebuild yet again — and Garnacho will still be only 24 when it happens!
