I'm actually somewhat disappointed with his goal return so far, compared to what Rashford and Greenwood were doing at his age anyway. He's definitely more raw than both of them were

Greenwoods an actual striker. Rashford had 8 goals 2 assists in his first season. Garnacho has 5 goals 4 assists now, he is well on his way to beating Rashfords goal involvement numbers.

It’s not just observers who had noticed then. Against tired defenders and attacking the Stretford End, he is a completely different player.

He was great, but I don’t think we should overlook that the players apparently call him ‘Garns’… unacceptable
Our internal player nicknames are horrid  they call Maguire ‘H’, ffs.

5 goals and 5 assists, according to Transfermarkt. He’s played 1167 minutes so that works out to a goal or assist every 116~ minutes. That’s pretty productive for an 18 year old. EDIT: he also has a knack of scoring or assist vital game winning goals.

Very productive indeed for a winger

Some of his decisions weren't great due to being predictable, but that doesn't stop him at all. Kid has some stones to keep going and going.

Relentless is a great word, glad he scored the winning goal essentially.

Love his directness. Even after his goal the kid was still running at pace which was great to see.

Was so happy he got the vital goal. There was a moment not long before he scored when I thought his legs where gone, ball came to him on the edge of the box (think from a short corner) and he went to feint past the defender then drag the ball but missed it and he had nothing left to try again for it. Then he scored his goal and seemed to get his second wind, and was still making back post sprints right at the end for Rashford’s chance.

Getting a tattoo of multiple cast characters on a mediocre (fun first season but not like great or anything) show, including a pedophile, is truly something. I give that part of the tattoo 18 months over/under before it's replaced/changed.

 Incredible stuff. The fact he has an equally garish, though admittedly more contemporary Stranger Things tat on the other arm, only leads me to believe the opposite - That he will become a hideous walking TV guide of mid level popular network shows by the time he turns 20. A full back tat of Lost. Dexter across the soles of his feet. Supernatural characters making their way up his neck to join the cast of Heroes on his lower chin, below a huge life like tattoo of Jack Bauer’s face on top of his own face… it’s the only plausible way this can go.

That West Ham defender was basically hugging Garnacho in penalty box but no penalty. Compare to that asshat ref when against Barca.

Greenwood was playing on the right though his job was basically to receive the ball and shoot on sight.

Rashford played as a striker in his first 4 months. He scored half of his goals in his first two games but that was an awful team compared to what we have now.

I don't think Garnacho has had anywhere near the minutes Rashford and Greenwood did in their first seasons? Seem to remember them starting quite a lot of games

I like how this guy is a bit of a throwback in the sense that he's a natural winger, likes to have the chalk on his boots as the saying goes, and more often than not he can beat his man. He's comfortable coming inside, but also happy to go on the outside on his left and get to the byline.

Yet it seems that he also has the ability to produce those numbers that the modern inverted wingers are known for. His G&A tally is impressive given his age and limited starts. Feels like we have a guy on our hands that in 2/3 years can easily produce double figures in both goals and assists per season.

Hopefully we get the contract sorted. He's going to be world class, I can feel it.

Also it's a bit harsh to compare him to them. Greenwood is probably the most complete and talented player I saw come out of our academy at the age of 17/18 and Garnacho isn't that naturally gifted. He has other qualities though which if he puts his head down and improves upon, he could become a top top player.

Greenwood also had a free spot to claim whereas Garnacho's got Rashford in the form of his life to compete with.

He needs to work on his defensive and off the ball game, and he will be a star. And he has Antony to learn from on those.

He probably needs two more years of conditioning to be able to get up and down the pitch for 90 minutes.

He's body has probably just stopped growing

the good thing about this kid is his confidence. He was having a tough game not getting much change out of his marker, but he didn't drop his head, he kept at it and actually grew into the game. For now, him as an impact sub is an excellent option in the big games

Whats your point?

Mine was that, Greenwood is probably the best finisher the clubs produced in 20 years. So his numbers should be better than Garnachos.

He is already a better all-round player than Ronaldo at the same age. He is improving his defending after 1 or 2 games already.

It is unfortunate, but I wish things were different for THAT player that shall not be named. He had the world at his feet, and you just have to wonder what would proper coaching from EtH and others do to him. :Sigh:

Can someone point me to an explanation of this Starboy thing? I'm assuming there's some context somewhere that makes it less cringey/borderline creepy than it sounds.

I'm not disagreeing, just mentioning he played on the right for the first team.

Belting player and I’m confident that he will just continue to flourish under ETH - would much rather he was on the pitch than Antony.

Does anyone think that he may go off the rails with an attitude problem ?

Under previous management maybe but I don't think ETH would allow that. He's shown that he won't put up with poor attitudes no matter the stature or profile of the player. He's shown no fear repremanding the best players or most famous members of the team.

I also think the current dressing room would help him stear clear of any potential hiccup or trend towards becoming a bad egg a lot more than previous dressing rooms we've had. There's a lot of leaders and true professionals in the team now that he can choose to emulate if he wants to make it to the levels they've reached.

Someone like Martinez who has already sort of taken him under his wing, I would have faith in guiding him towards the straight path to stardom that he can achieve if he continues doing what's he's supposed to and staying focused and hungry.

The one thing that worries me most is him going Real Madrid sooner rather than later as apparently he was a fan growing up.

A constant threat. He scares defenders.

He is raw. Once he refines his skills and gets more experience, the game will start to slow for him and his decision making will get better.

He has to be, with Camavinga, the most exciting 18 year old in football.

He is 20.

I think the PL is so attractive we should be fine.

As long as we are competing for major trophies, he'll stay

Greenwood did not come into the team straight away. I remember Lingard and Pereira playing ahead of him alot under Ole. It's normal to take time with these youngsters.

Might see it next season

Special talent, but this graph shows the reason he won't be starting on Sunday. He needs to become a lot better at reading the game and protecting his full back, instead of switching off until we get the ball and go on the attack. There's no way in my book that ETH entrusts him with defending against Trent in the opening stages of the game.

No worries though, it's only early in his career. He will get there if he keeps his head and works hard.
