Adnan Januzaj

It's not really hard to understand.

Youngsters under 18 can only sign 3 years contract so when we sign someone like Adnan he will be on a 3 year contract. Unless he makes the step up to first team within first year(which is highly unlikely for any player we sign at that age range) there is not much reason to offer them a newer contract. However end of the 2nd year is when we usually start offering newer terms but youngsters specially not the home grown ones will obviously prefer to stretch it out as far as possible because then they will have a stronger BATNA.

Januzaj's first season was troubled by that injury so it would have made no sense to offer him a renewal after that season. You can't blame the management much for the current situation, it is something that we should get used to specially when signing foreign talents of that age.

Didnt know that. Obviously the whole things makes a lot more sense then.

Fair play to Moyes for throwing him into the deep end. It really makes you wonder what would have happened had Fergie done the same with someone like Morrison.

After pre-season the only surprise was that it took this long to be getting his chances. Sir Alex wanted to use him at the end of last season

I'm going to be controversial, but I still think it would be best for his development if he were to go out on loan for the rest of season. Play every game for a team like Everton (not actually Everton though obv) will be better for him than every few games against Smaller clubs for us. Sounds like he didn't want that though

Not even with a five year contract under his belt! I agree his development is still work in progress but we have everything to lose from him going out on loan.He needs to grow with us and there is no saying he'll only play against the teams scrapping it out at the bottom of the table and actually the Southampton game will be a good test.A test of his ability to cope with the hype that is surrounding him and an opposition that is solid in defence and will see plenty of the ball you'd expect.

Sole beacon of light?? Well perhaps yes right now and no one is expecting the boy to be the cataylst to could kick start our season but he has given most United fans THAT feeling of excitement that doesn't come around so often.RVP,a young Ronaldo,Cantona and Rooney amongst others had that effect on United supporters and hopefully this lad can fulfils the early promise he has shown.

Does anyone actually think he is going to leave? I'm worried, but there haven't been any stories with concrete interest yet. The only confirmation is that we are negotiating with him right?

I'm reasonably confident he won't. I just can't believe the club would be so mind-numbingly stupid as to let him go. Not being willing to splash out £40mil on a top midfielder in the summer is one thing, but being unwilling to offer Januzaj an enticing enough contract to keep him would be utterly beyond belief given how stupidly rich this club is getting.

I'm confident he'll stay.I can't imagine either that the club would allow him to leave. If he does leave i am going to murder myself!

Still early days but I haven't been so exited about a young player since the Ronaldo and Rooney days. There is so much similarities with young Cristiano it's frightening. If his development continue he will be Moyes first own star player at United. I'm not sure his best position is as a winger, he could also easily be a offensive playmaker, similar to Özil. He got that flow in him when he run around his opponents like escaping water.

If there is any sense left in the club we offer him what it takes to keep him, all other outcomes would be madness after our last transfer window.

I think Januzaj is going to be the first player that I've seen from when he was playing in the u18s to go on and be a football star, it's just going to be amazing to watch his career and know that I was watching him from before it all began.

I agree that he's the most exciting since those two. I just hope that future is with us because the thought of such a talent leaving is a bit sickening:(

This thread needs more optimism. There is nothing to suggest he wants to leave. He's started gaining the trust of the new manager, just like he left off with the old manager and his team mates too, he's making an impression and an impact on first team games pretty much every time he plays, if he carries on in the same vein he will cement his place in the starting XI pretty soon which isn't a given at other 'big' clubs, he expressed himself how much he is enjoying his time here and is focused on improving and playing more for the first team, and he even said he wants to stay here, his agent said contract negotiations are ongoing and talks are underway after being delayed when SAF retired, Moyes said he's confident Adnan would be staying. It's all been positive so far so I don't think fans should be panicking.

I can't help but be cynical with regards to footballers these days given the influence people such agents and heavily invested family members seem to have on the situation. Given it's come so close to the point where he can talk to other clubs, I'll believe he's staying when it's confirmed! My gut does say he'll stay given how good he has it right now at United, but like I said, I fear the worst due to aforementioned cynicism.

I am with everyone in believing we should do everything to keep him. However, there is a line and if his agent is playing United, we are still bigger than any player and we should stick to our guns.

Now, I'm not hearing any absurd figures, so I am not suggesting it's only about money but there is a line. I do want the club to do whatever they can to retain him but it has to be within reason.

That he hasn't signed a new deal so far despite being given a run out in the first team is enough of a cause to worry. He'll be allowed to talk to other clubs in two and a half months time. I'm hopeful that he'll sign a new deal but let's not kid ourselves, there is a chance that he may leave.

His father is his agent, not fecking Raiola the assbag, so that's a plus.

Januzaj doesn't think the sun shines out of his own ass, and in fact has shown fantastic attitude and effort at all times.

Any contract can be laden with performance bonuses, so if he plays well he gets paid big.

I'll be shocked I'd he doesn't sign, and would probably throw my toys out of my pram.

Hate to be a dick, by the way, but... I'm lying. I actually love being a dick.

Surprise! One down and it looks like he's set for a fair few more.

To be fair, he wasn't the only one who said that. I think the vast majority thought he'd just get the odd sub here and there, but luckily for him (and us), our other wingers have been so bad that Moyes left with no choice, and it paid off.

You didn't watch Pogba in the u18s?

I only got MUTV in January last year so I've only properly been watching since then. Pogba was in the reserves by that point.

I know, and anyone who said otherwise got an earful for it. Hence the smugness.

I know, if I was a dick I'd go and quote the people who laughed at me for suggesting he'd get 10/15 appearances. cnuts.

I admit my mistake, I didn't think Moyes would give an 18-year old a run in his first season at a big club but big credit to him for having the guts to do so.

If you are going to start posting people's quotes about AJ, then how about some from you about Anderson last year?

Jesus, not this again. I don't know where you got it into your head that I'm an Anderson fan, but I'm not. I remember you kept randomly referring to me defending him this summer when I'd never posted anything of the sort. Maybe you're thinking of someone else?

Either way, come back with an actual quote or piss off. :)

I could probably dig up something you said about Daehli, if you're particularly keen to have mistaken posts brought up?

Then someone could dig up something stupid I've said. It could be a fun chain game.

I'll start.

You seem to take someone disagreeing with your views pretty personally. Anyway, if we want to play the quotes game, let's just point out that he's surprised pretty much everyone - even his advocates. That's what young players do. It's a pretty strange "achievement" to be excessively proud of.
I don't think we are getting carried away in the slightest. Have you heard any of us say that he's going to be a first team regular? Have you heard any of us say he's going to own the premier league? No, what you've heard of us talk about how great a talent he is.
