Adnan Januzaj

I was telling people about this young star called Adnan Januzaj around 2 years ago. I feel I should be a little smug about it, but now that he's got some attention I feel people are going very overboard.

Yea, I've watched him since he's joined on MUTV, although I can clearly recall the majority posters seeming to think Daelhi was a better player than him.

Who cares? We haven't had much to smile about this season so far.

I think that stability is a bit of a buzzword with us, but change at the right time is always needed. I believe Adnan's introduction into the team can galvanise the rest of the players into picking up their performance. When a newcomer enters, especially one with flair and imagination, I think it demands the others to respond. Hopefully he can breathe some life into the others.

You're imagining things.

Also without being a cnut but I'm not sure if Adnan was an unknown either. Anyone who watched the reserves and youth matches regularly could tell you that Adnan was the best of the lot.

England (or any other geographical region) is a place, not a cultural cosmic mindstate.

Not 100% correct, English is a recognised ethnicity, as well as an obvious country. This I think, is part of the what causes the "racist" assumptions levelled against most people who trumpet being English. Sadly, something done all too often for the wrong reasons by the likes of BNP etc.
Because of this I can understand Genius Me's trouble with identifying himself as English because he isn't "white" although the more appropriate term would be becuase he's not Anglo-Saxon.
Similarly, I would struggle with someone like Januzaj playing for England, as I've never liked the whole qualification logic that allows this. Whether he opts for Belgium, Albania or whoever is up to him but I would hope he chooses because he feels he belongs to that country rather than it gives him the best chance to succeed.

Would SAF have given him such a chance this season, I doubt it, so credit has to go to Moyes for playing him when he could go for the safer option, now we only need him to sign a new contract.

That's my stand on it aswell.

Not trying to WUM you mate but what do you think of the Irish and South Africans in the English cricket team?

Didn't say he was an unknown or anything. But I do recall quite a few people thinking Daelhi was the main man in that team. Or perhaps it was just the few who shouted loudest. I can't be asked to glance back at their respective threads so I'll stand corrected.

The unknown point was more to the LCB post.
But apart from from two-three months of last season, Adnan has always outperformed Daehli.

it would have been great to have seen how we could have used Pogba, Morrison and Januzaj in the same side

The irish are a very different situation as they don't have a test side, and by playing for England they aren't ruling themselves out of playing Fir Ireland.

The SA bunch vary. Some are pure mercenaries looking for a game (not that I'm complaining) but a few of them do have an English parent etc.

Yes that's because Ireland is an association country and not a full member of ICC. But when the Irish gets their membership(think they'll get in two years or so) then they can't turn back to Ireland.

He won't play for Croatia and Serbia. In fact if someone suggests that he will play for Serbia is either completely ignorant or stupid. Don't have any idea about Turkey but I don't think that there is anything on it.

Anyway, his parents are Albanians from Kosovo. The problem isn't that straightforward to choose between the place where he was born and the native country because Kosovo isn't accepted in FIFA. Despite more than 90% of Kosovans are Albanians, still there are a few differences between them and the fact that they have been seperated for more than a century means that the culture and many other things are very different. For example the first time I went to Albania was when I was 16-17 years old, a few years after the Kosovo war. For more than a half of century it was forbidden for Kosovans to go from Yugoslavia in Albania and vice versa. So there are a few differences which makes things even more difficult. Although the most of Kosovans choose to play for Albania there are a few cases where they ahve opted for different countries (Valon Behrami for example). In other cases the Albanian FA has been that much corrupted that have asked for money to certain players in order to play for them so naturally they chose other countries (Granit Xhaka being the best example). And in some bizarre cases they haven't even made an offer at all (surprisingly Xherdan Shaqiri never received an offer to play for Albania despite he was willing to do so). Many of them have declared that if Kosovo gets accepted in FIFA/UEFA, they will play for Kosovo. (Shaqiri for example celebrated UCL victory with a flag of Kosovo while Xhaka when asked to sing a song in National team, he chose to sign the Albanian anthem).

I think that if Kosovo was in FIFA it would have been an easy choice for Adnan, but as it is things are much more difficult. It is entirely possible that he hasn't ever been to Albania. We'll see what happens, but I would be okay with him choosing whatever nation he choose. Probably will boo him if Albania ever plays Belgium and he is on their shirt though.

Armando Duka should be hanged from his balls.

I'll just call him Adnan. Seems easier.

Guy on Sky saying he said he'll stay which made me quite happy. Just need him to actually sign the damn deal

Januzaj is pronounced Yan-oo-zie. The 'J' is soft, so it's a 'Y', the 'oo' rhymes with 'poo', & the 'zie' rhymes with 'pie'. Januzaj.

 Januzaj.

Hmm. The 'Ja' part is pronounced in a similar way to how a Dutch person says 'ja' (yes), so it's more of a 'Ya' than a 'yeah', i'd say.

Can we just call him Adnan?

Fair point, however, as a Canadian our Yeah is a bit softer, like the Dutch or German Ja.

Ah yes, only remembered you were Canadian after posting, so I guess you're right! Don't know if this applies to all Canadians, but even your 'new' sort of sounds like 'noo', so you're spot on if that is the case.

No WUM assumed, I think these issues are a real bag of worms, open to all sorts of interpretation.

Depends on their method of qualification. If it's through parentage then I have no major concern and as already stated given th eIrish don't have a cricket team I have no real issue with them playing for England, assuming they switched if and when an Irish team developed.
Regarding the South Africans, if it's by parentage fine but if it's some qualification loop hole I don't agree.

I'm a bit pissed off that I've been saying zay this whole time and now I have to say Zie.

We bought him for £297,000. Could prove our biggest bargain, and we've had quite a few.
We actually paid more than we had to for him because of how well he was looked after by Anderlecht according to their manager at the time we paid 575,000 and more based on appearances even though we only had to pay the usual compensation fee

Yes! Most of us enunciate as if we're a bit tipsy.

Januzaj weigert selectie Rode Duivels

Short translation: He was called up to the Belgian national team today by Wilmots but refused. He still wants to break through at club level first before thinking about international football.

They weren't complaining when they won them the Ashes!

Another thing for Adnan to consider, and I'm sure his agent will have made him fully aware - is that he stands to make an absolute feckload of money if he stays here and fulfils his potential. If he gets the number 7 for instance, and continues his form, he will become the new face of United. If he thinks the summer tour was crazy this year, he can try next year when everyone will be turning out to see him..

His agent will make a lot more though by getting him a big money move abroad. Down to the club and manager to convince him to stay and that he will get games. He only needs to look at Pogba and Pique to see two guys who have moved and made good careers for themselves so the onus is on your lot to convince him otherwise.

It's not always the case.

If he moved him now and got him a contract somewhere he'd get a fee, sure, but would it be as big as if he made it here first and got a move in 5 years time?

I think a lot of whether an agent gets much money is down to the player and how he wants to be represented. Some want to get the best deal and the most money and the agent does well out of them. Look at Ibrahimovic or Eto'o. Others want to have a career and the agent will do the best for themselves with that in mind.

If Januzaj wants a contract here and his agent won't get it for him because we won't offer him enough money, do you really think Januzaj will stick with that agent? Agent's might be a big problem in the game but I think you'll find it's only when the player is naive or a mercenary himself.
