Moyes confirmed that he was not registered for the main CL squad because in a few months he'd be able to be listed as a youth trained player for us in the future. If he was registered now he would basically become a "foreign" player forever.

Sounds fair so. That bit in bold seems nuts though if those are the rules.

Excellent news. So exciting to see a new youngster making it through the ranks and reach the first team with such a bang.

Love it!

Hopefully the doom mongers can stop mentioning Pogba in here.

Moyes has just confirmed in the press conference that Januzaj will sign a new contract and he will be available for selection for the CL games in October because of the length of time he has been at the club.

Did you see the press conference? Graeme Bailey words it differently..

This is the news i have been waiting for....lets hope he signs on the dotted line sooner rather than later.

According to transfermrkt, his contract expires in 2015. I trust transfermrkt more than Bailey.

Januzaj aside, i remember we have another Belgian at the club call van Helzen or something like that, tall lanky lad who supposedly plays on the wings. Is he still at the club? How is he progressing so far?

Released IIRC

Van Velzen I think. He was signed from Ajax and was Dutch

He was released this summer, didn't think he would make it here to be honest. Looked good a couple seasons back in the u18s but I wasn't particularly excited with his step up to the u21s. He went on loan, although I forget which club he went to but I don't think he was making strides to the level of what he'd need to be at for us.

Same can be said of Barmby really although I think he's a year younger.

I hope Januzaj signs immediately, but if I was in his position, I'd be thinking, 'Well, I've waited this long to sign a contract, so I've got nothing to lose by waiting a little longer, just to ensure David Moyes doesn't speak with forked tongue. When he gives me games, rather than talking about it, I'll sign. After all, in the summer of 2011, Fergie talked about Pogba as if he was going to feature regularly, and he hardly gave him 10 minutes.'

Hopefully Adnan and his advisors are a little less cynical.

Let's hope Adnan isn't a cnut like you then.

That would mean he signed a four year deal and I think three years is the maximum for under 18's.

They say contract signed in 2012. Our official website says Jan 2011 whereas we are waiting till October 2013 for 2 years to complete so that we can have him in B list. In short, clusterfeck. So, only thing that matters now is getting him sign the contract within next few weeks.

From Today's BBC Gossip Column:
Manchester City could be ready to pounce if Manchester United fail to agree a new deal with 18-year-old Belgian winger Adnan Januzaj, whose contract expires at the end of this season.
Get. Him. Signed. Up.

For all those getting itchy feet about the contract, this is what Adnan's agent said back in May:

Manchester United reserve player Adnan Januzaj set to pen a new deal

Manchester United reserve player Adnan Januzaj is expected to sign a new contract with the club, according to his agent.
Juventus and Barcelona are said to be interested in the highly-rated youngster but Januzaj's agent Dirk Devriese says he is likely to sign a new contract at Old Trafford.
Devriese told Het Laatste Nieuws : "We know Adnan is on the list of many clubs. But, my player was voted reserve team player of the year and was one of the star players on a few big youth tournaments.
"It's no surprise other teams are interested in him. Sir Alex Ferguson has told Adnan a few weeks ago that he can play in three positions in the midfield. They have worked hard on his weak points.
"We'll talk about a new contract in a month - his one is expiring in 2014. The retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson has delayed the negotiations, but if everything goes well, Adnan will stay a few years longer at Old Trafford.
"The club rewarded him with a squad number and he'll be part of the first squad next season." http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11667/8741147/

This is what Adnan said himself in July:
Manchester United playmaker Adnan Januzaj hopeful of big future
• Belgian eager to impress David Moyes on tour
• Wayne Rooney absence boosts teenager's squad chances

Adnan Januzaj sees his long-term future at Manchester United, with the 18-year-old hopeful of signing a new deal soon.
The Belgian playmaker has been one of United's better performers so far on the club's three-week pre-season tour, with his father in discussions regarding a fresh contract.
"I don't decide what happens with my contract," Januzaj said. "I've got people behind me who do this for me. Manchester United are a big club, I love it here, I feel good, so I hope to stay. My dad does everything for me. He just told me to work hard on the pitch, which is what I try to do."
The teenager's chance to impress United manager David Moyes on tour arose because of Wayne Rooney's absence through a hamstring injury and, with speculation over the England striker's future persisting, Januzaj is optimistic he can cement a squad place this season.

"It will maybe be a chance for me to play there, so we will see in the future what will happen. I think it's a big season for me. Like I said, I've tried to impress the manager and try to play regularly. I worked hard last season. I didn't play in my favourite position, more as a striker, but I think I did well."

In the third tour game, the 3-2 defeat by Yokohama F-Marinos in Tokyo this week, Januzaj lined up behind Robin van Persie. "It's great because he's obviously a big player, Januzaj added. "When you play with big players like him you feel confident, which is good."
Januzaj, who arrived at Old Trafford from Anderlecht in 2011, is understandably pleased with how his tour has gone, and said: "I've tried to do my best and worked hard on the pitch but it's hard for us as well, with all the travelling and moving between different countries and time zones. I've tried to impress the manager and make sure I give myself the chance to stay with the first team." http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/jul/25/manchester-united-adnan-januzaj

And this is what was in the Guardian in August:
Manchester United close to finalising long-term deal for Adnan Januzaj
• 18-year-old Belgian signed from Anderlecht two years ago
• Januzaj in squad for United's visit to Swansea on Saturday

Manchester United are close to tying Adnan Januzaj to a long-term contract to recognise his emergence as a player Sir Alex Ferguson has described as "one of the most promising talents" to come through the club's youth team.
Januzaj, an 18-year-old Belgian signed from Anderlecht two years ago, came on for Robin van Persie as a substitute in the Community Shield on Sunday and will be part of David Moyes's squad when the Premier League champions begin their defence at Swansea City on Saturday.
United are keen to recognise his potential and not risk losing him in the manner of Paul Pogba, who was also highly rated by United's coaching staff but offered only a small salary and eventually left for Juventus. Talks have already taken place about a new contract and an agreement is not far off.
Januzaj, an attacking, left-footed wide player, has played a prominent part in United's pre-season schedule, with Moyes and previously Ferguson confident he is ready to move up to the first-team squad
. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/aug/14/manchester-united-adnan-januzaj

Added to the fact that Moyes said yesterday he was confident that the deal wasn't far off. The agent doesn't seem to be whoring him around or posturing for a move, Adnan clearly wants to stay and the manager has confidence in him and is playing him in the first team. Have faith guys, I believe it will be done.

I got a text earlier saying City were trying to sign him. Being that there's nothing here about it, I presume he's just trying to wind me up.
