Admit it you were wrong

Negative:

- Cleverley was a quality player
- Di Maria would be the best signing in years (Could end up true in the long run you never know)
- Kagawa would turn out great here
- Agree with others that we would turn Barca over in 2009
- For a point at the start of 2011/12 I thought we would clean up all the trophies that year...
- Had Phil Jones down as somebody who would be a top class player by now...

Positive:

- I wanted De Gea to be sold at one point 3 years ago
- Ronaldo belonged in the Spanish league and wasn't good enough for United or the Premier League. Wanted him sold after Benfica in 2005
- Thought we would drop out of the top 4 at the start of 2006/07
- Came to the point when Carrick had that form dip in 2010 where I wanted him out aswell...

Moyes was the best man to succeed SAF

Mata would turn our season around when we bought him in the winter

Januzaj would be one of our best players this season

Di Maria would turn out to be the best player in the PL

Falcao was going to be our most important striker and a smart bit of business

I also thought Jones would turn out to be a far beter defender than he currently is

LVG was going to turn this club completley around in a few months and have us competing for the title and playing mouth watering football

Pogba would regret leaving Manchester United

Ashley Young was not going to be usefull for us anymore

Manchester city would never be a bigger dog than us in the league

Hazard would regret not signing for United

Chelsea would never win the CL

Arsenal would never end up beating us to a target (or atleast a player I wanted us to sign)

Wenger would have been sacked by now
He would have won the league two years quicker if he did, and if we had had him we would have possibly won the Fa Cup that year aswell.

United:
- Blind was going to be terrible (just a hunch)
- Fellaini wouldn't be here after his first year
- Nani was going to come good
- Falcao would be tearing apart teams this season
- Moyes was going to win the FA Cup in his first season, PL in the next

Non-United:
- Stephan El Shaarawy was going to be Europe's next big thing
- Diego Costa would struggle in the Premier League
- The Argentine national team wouldn't make it past the last 16 at the 2014 World Cup
- AC Milan are going to come back as a force (this one has been for years...)

I've been wrong about so, so many of our youth prospects over the years - at different times I've thought Macheda, Tunnicliffe, Cathcart, M. Keane, Cole, Possebon, Petrucci and of course Morrison would at least be good enough to compete for a place in the first team - and that's before we get started with Pogba. I've still not learned my lesson here as I'm hopeful to see what Lingard, Thorpe and Pearson will achieve at United... :nervous:

I thought Cleverley and Welbeck would be the type of characters that would be ultra-professional servants to the club.

I thought we'd sign a central-midfielder in 2009.

I thought we'd sign a central-midfielder in 2010.

I thought we'd sign a central-midfielder in 2011.

I thought we'd sign a central-midfielder in 2012.

I thought the club would be very well prepared for Sir Alex's retirement, particularly in light of what happened post-Busby, meaning that the squad would be basically perfect and the chosen successor would be of the very highest calibre.

 Me too.

I was prepared for a slip after Fergie but nothing like this. Louis' picking it up very slowly but I never thought I'd see playstyles at United deteriorate so far.

Falcao would score like his Porto/Atletico rates

Moyes was a good manager and would eventually turn out ok

I first thought Vidic was going to be a laughing stock and sold within 2 seasons.

  • Vidic wasn't going to be good enough.
  • Kagawa would be a great signing.
  • Macheda would be become a regular starter for us.
  • Jonny Evans would become a great defender.
  • Falcao would prove to be better than Costa over the whole season (he's going to have to put in Pele-esque performances now for that to be the case).
  • We were going to surprise Barcelona in the 2011 final.
  • Moyes would win one of the domestic cups in his first (and last) season.

I thought Obertan bore shades of Ronaldo. Had the latter lost his legs, then maybe.

I thought we would beat Barcelona in 2009 and comfortably so.

The naive hopeless romantic:
Bebe would prove us all idiots by making it at United and prove SAF's genius, once again

Moyes is a good replacement for SAF - he'd get top 4 and kick on from there.

The footballing views:
Cleverley would turn into a Xavi-lite type player for us

Young, Fellaini should have been sold the start of this season

Rafael would undisputedly be one of the best right backs in the world by now, ditto at least 1 of Jones/Smalling at CB

I never thought Moyes would be so bad, and i never thought the Fergie affect would take months to wear off, at which point he would get even worse.

I thought Falcao would come good after he played a few games in succession.

Cleverly could be our next Scholes
After the succesful pre-season I thought we are going to win the title back easily this season

Hah, I wish the guy replied here who held the "WHY ALWAYS WE" sign back in 2012 as we were leading Everton 4-2 and heading to be the 20th times champions. Noooooooot.

Rafael, Smalling and Jones would form the backbone of one of the best defence's in Europe.

I'm still holding to that one under different circumstances!

I'm always the first person to admit when I'm wrong. But I never am, so I have nothing to add here.

I thought Jones and Smalling would be great defenders.
Falcao will score 20-25 goals.
Cleverley will be a great mid for us.
Fellaini and Young should be sold.

I thought Van Gaal would integrate a few youngsters into our first team.

I thought we was going to absolutely dick Barcelona in the CL final in 2009.
Me too. I was very confident ahead of that game knowing Barcelona were forced to play Sylvinho and Toure in defence. How wrong I was...

In his early days, I thought Kevin Nolan was going to become a very good PL midfielder and get a big move.

Mourinho would sell Lampard when he came in.

Jordan Henderson was woeful and would end up a bottom level PL player.

Liverpool had pulled off a great piece of business signing Voronin on a free.

Rafael and Evans were going to become mainstays in our defence.

Falcao would be an absolute beast for us.

I thought Johny Evans was going to be our future captain.

I thought Moyes would do better than he did at least top 4.

I was certain Barcelona would fall off and not win the league this season. Even though the league is not over yet they have certainly not fallen off.

I thought we were certain of getting top 4 this season, its anything but certain at the moment.

A - I underestimated the old guard endurance. If it was for me we would have had quality players to compete/replace them when they hit age 32-33
B - I never thought that Gaz and Fletcher would ever be United XI level. SAF insistence in playing them week in week out despite being meah paid off
C - I suggested a couple of signings which turned to be meah.
D - I took SAF's side regarding Rooney.
E - Fellaini would be useless. It turned out that he's great for LVG's plan B. ;):p
F - LVG would never ever try to implement 3-5-2 in the EPL. No one would be so stupid to do that in a league which rely heavily on wingers.

I thought Rooney would grow into a cross between Alan Shearer and Eric when we first signed him, oh dear.
I think there is 3rd best player in the last 10 years. Yes Messi and Ronaldo were and are on another level but i can't think of any other player who was better than Rooney through last 10 years.
I really don't know how much more people could expected from Rooney.

I thought Davide Petrucci was going to become a top player.

I thought Paul Pogba would be in our team for years.

Cleverley was the new Scholes.
Moyes was the right man.
Should never have sold Ince.
Ronaldo is overrated.
O'Shea was world class (amazing first season).
Kanchelskis would make us regret getting rid.
Veron would make us unbeatable.

After the start of the 2011 season and especially after we walloped Arsenal 8-2 I thought Cleverley and Anderson would be the backbone of our midfield for the next 10 years.
Fellaini was finished as a footballer
Jones would be an England regular by now
Nick Powell would be a regular starter for us by now
Chicharito would be regularly scoring 25 goals a season for us

Rafael will become the best RB in the world.
Thiago will become the best CM in the world (maybe, there is still hope).
Falcao will score tons of goals for us.
Nani will become one of the best players in the world.
Pato will become the best striker in the world.
Rooney should be sold in the summer of 2013.

And many others.

Thought Henderson was more of an athlete than a footballer. Felt Swansea would have been under pressure to stay up this season.

Iniesta, Xavi and Ibrahimovic would disagree. He has been great, but he's somewhere in the 30+ player bunch fighting for top 10.

I didn't think Tevez was worth the £25m option fee towards the end of his loan

Rooney would become Gazza mk 2. After some early career indescrestions I feared he would waste his career and not fulfill his potential. Also had doubts about Rio. Credit to both, they were professional in what is (contentiously) an even more pressure laden era of football.

I thought Fabio and Rafael would nail down the LB and RB options.
I thought Ben Foster was destined to be our #1 for a long time.
I thought Welbeck would be a huge success with us under van Gaal.
I thought Evans would go on to be a top, top CB.

There would probably be more too, but those are the ones that come to mind straight away.

Common denominator in both of those examples being Sir Alex... you have to wonder what would have happened to Gazza's career had Fergie got him !

To add to my earlier list:
- Rooney would become the best player in the world
- Messi had peaked in 2011, proving to be spectacularly wrong on that one !
- Phil Jones would become United and England captain, his partner for both of those teams would be Chris Smalling. I guess I am yet to be proved wrong on this one but looking very likely to be a wild dream
- Hazard would struggle in his first season and Kagawa would outshine him
- Terry was past it circa 2011
- Fernando would be a top signing for City this year
- Sanchez would struggle
- Sunderland would have a good season under Poyet
