Admit it you were wrong

Moyes was the best man to succeed SAF

Mata would turn our season around when we bought him in the winter

Januzaj would be one of our best players this season

Di Maria would turn out to be the best player in the PL

Falcao was going to be our most important striker and a smart bit of business

I also thought Jones would turn out to be a far beter defender than he currently is

LVG was going to turn this club completley around in a few months and have us competing for the title and playing mouth watering football

Pogba would regret leaving Manchester United

Ashley Young was not going to be usefull for us anymore

Manchester city would never be a bigger dog than us in the league

Hazard would regret not signing for United

Chelsea would never win the CL

Arsenal would never end up beating us to a target (or atleast a player I wanted us to sign)

Wenger would have been sacked by now

Most recently:
  • Manucho would be a class signing, pretty much based entirely on his performances for Angola at AFCON.
  • Bebe would blossom into a decent winger and give us one or two world class seasons in his late twenties.
  • Anderson and Cleverley were the future of our midfield.
  • Rafael, Fabio, Jones, Smalling and Evans were all going to be world class and our defence would be sorted for years.
  • Welbeck would be here for life and be one of our key players.

In the past:
  • Barthez was going to be a great replacement for the Great Dane.
  • Phil Neville was going to be the future of our midfield, based off his bossing of Viera in one game (the 6-1, I think) while Keane was out.
  • Veron was going to take us to a godly tier of football.
  • Luke Chadwick was going to be a regular for our starting 11 and tear apart defences throughout Europe.
  • John O'Shea was going to develop into a Roberto Carlos-esque full back.
  • Darren Fletcher was never going to make it.

Thought Gary Neville was going to be a shit pundit.

Was convinced Macheda was going to be the next Totti after the Aston Villa goal.

Beckham would never leave, ending his career at United.

Tevez was going to move to United permanently after his 2 year loan.

Thought Muniain was going to be the new Messi after we played against Bilbao.

Thought Chicharito was going to be the new Solskjaer and would gracefully sit on the bench for us, turns out he'd rather do it at Madrid.

Thought Barry Bannan was going to be the new David Silva.

Thought nobody would buy Suarez after the bite incident and would stay disgraced at Liverpool.

Thought Hargreaves was going to be one of the best midfielder in United history.

Thought Moyes would have won the treble by now.

Not enough of you are putting 'Falcao would tear up the prem' in their lists ;)

Mine would be

Wenger would be sacked by 2012
SAF would only retire due to illness
RVP would have made the right decision to leave Arsenal.
Drogba would retire after leaving us the first time.
Klopp to be sacked this season (so far)
We would win the league comfortably in 10/11
Shaun wright phillips would be a world star after scoring vs the Ukraine

Eh? Got his league title, didn't he?

  1. Thought David Moyes would have made a terrific Manchester United manager.
  2. Thought he would have loved to have Kagawa - a player who can be great as an inside left and Hernandez - a pure poacher
  3. After the Real Madrid games, I was very happy with how our young players were stepping up to the occasions in that season and were beginning a new dynasty with Ferguson
  4. Phil Neville would have been displaced at Everton early into his career there and become a journeyman like Nicky Butt
  5. Obertan could have been a fantastic winger. I remember his early games at United and was very impressed with his dribbling and skills. Remember a game against Besiktas at home when we lost but he was great.

True, but I think he was probably expecting a bit more than 1 league title when joining the most successful English club. He may have won one with Arsenal had they kept him and still signed Ozil and Sanchez, and they equaled and could exceed Uniteds trophy haul since then. I genuinely expected him to sweep the board as he was such a player back then.

Arsene Wenger is too big to be sacked.

It's another discussion, but I wouldn't shout about the FA Cup and I'm sure he's chuffed with one league title in the hand as opposed to what "could have been".

Chelsea would walk the league in 07.
We'd beat Barca comfortably in 09.
Nani would be as good as Ronaldo.
Anderson would be quality for us.
I was convinced we'd sign Benzema and Robben in 09 :(

I see what you mean. He left Arsenal since he was fed up of transition. Came here, had his 1 year of being top dog but immediately back to transition. Don't think he ever rated Moyes, whereas he still maintains great admiration for Wenger. He could have been the missing link last year when they were only 7 points off the title. Giroud was brought in to take the ease of him, not replace him. At least with Wenger he's a manager who has consistency and now starting to push on higher, whereas at United since Fergie went we've been not sure where we're supposed to be.

Ricardo Quaresma would be the next Ronaldinho, even going so far as telling everybody in college when he signed for Chelsea on loan

Welbeck would be our Shola Ameobi, and stay for ages and ages, even when he hardly got a game, and then he'd leave when he was just far too shit to justify keeping even for sentimental reasons.

- That Fabien Barthez would be a fantastic 'keeper for us

- That we'd easily beat Barcelona in 09 (That's how bloody good we were :( )

Anderson would become a world class player
Falcao would score 25+ goals this season
Darren Fletcher was only at United because he was Scottish

Nani was important for quite a few years. Lumping him in with Anderson is harsh.

I think Jose would have had Ferguson not dropped one two years ago.

My thoughts exactly. People argue that RvP was worth the outlay considering his impact in his first season. If that's the case (and I agree - I'd buy RvP is we had to do it all over again) then Nani was worth the money we paid. Anderson never gave us anything bar a glimpse of hope.

As for my contribution to this thread *gulp*:

  • I thought George Boateng was needed to help us restore ourselves to the top of the league.
  • Pretty much every major signing by a rival is going to be a flop (Torres, Fabregas, Costa, Sanchez, Bale, and on, and on, and on.)
  • Every underwhelming signing by a rival is a masterstroke (Graveson, Scott Parker, Glen Johnson, Flamini)
  • The opposite is true for our signings
  • Boyata was going to be one of the best CBs in the world
  • Wenger would retire without winning another trophy (made this bet with my Gooner brother in about 2009 and had to pay up last year)
  • Abramovic was going to sell Chelsea after 5 years and they would be on the brink of ruin by now
  • Aston Villa were going to establish themselves as a strong Europa League club that challenged for the top 4. (made under Martin O'Neill)
  • Veron was going to have a great season for us in his 3rd year with us - the Chelsea after we sold him (in fairness, that pass to Van Nistelrooy in a friendly against Juve was beautiful)

Paul Pogba would become a United legend.
De Gea would stay here for 20 years and become a United legend. Rafael would become a RB giant bigger than Gaz. And last but not least we would sign Ronaldo back for Fergie's last year.

Manucho was the answer.
Kieran Richardson was gonna be top class.
Moyes was the right guy to succeed SAF.
The squad that SAF left behind would waltz the league title even without him.
Cleverley was gonna be a top class CM.
Rooney had the potential and was gonna be better than Ronaldo.
Welbeck was gonna become one of Europes top forwards.
Barry Bannan was gonna be a top Prem CM and we were gonna bid for him at some stage.

Thought Veron would take us to the next level

Thought Shearer would choose us over Newcastle

Thought we would beat Barca in Rome

Thought Yaya Toure would be a massive flop at City

Thought Liverpool would do the right thing about Suarez in the Evra racial claim

Thought Carlos Queiroz would come back and then take over from Fergie.

I really thought Moyes would not only succeed here but, would win the PL in his first season. I thought he would get players to work harder off the ball than they did in years.

And things I still have refused to give up on
I still think Phil Jones will be an elite CB
I still think Rafael will be the best RB in the World

Jones would go onto be world class.

Welbeck would be a regular 20+ goal a season striker for us until he retired a United legend.

Rafael and Fabio would be the next Nevilles.

Moyes would succeed at United.

We would beat Barca in 2009.

Falcao would be a major success.

We would get top 4 in Moyes' first season.

Kagawa would be a success.

Hernandez would score over 20+ goals in a season for us, and develop a top partnership with Rooney long-term.

I thought Cleverley and Welbeck were going to be the heart of the United team.

When Beckham went to Preston on loan I didn't think he would come back.

Genuinely thought we would win everything after the 8-2 and the game the week after.

Never seen a united team play like that. Amazing while it lasted

The Anderson - Cleverley midfield was majestic, if only for a few games.

We'd be fine after Ferguson left. We had the structure in place to continue without him, he'd built a supreme set up.

Although to be honest, I still think that would of been true if Moyes hadn't replaced League and Champions league winning stuff with his Everton numpties.

Thought Cleverley would be an excellent player for a team like Villa.

Jury's still out on some of these:

1. Thought DiMaria would be almost like Ronaldo
2. Thought Zaha was special and would be scoring goals and making assists for fun
3. Rafael is the first name on the teamsheet
4. Smalling is basically a young Rio
5. Cleverley would be in our midfield for many years
6. Van Gaal would make us play shexy football

Nothing because I only deal in 'ifs' when it comes to football.
