Some of you are actually incredible. Can't find a negative with AwB, so let's make a situation where Ashley Young is our first choice right wing. Absolutely incredible stuff.

How can you not be excited about this transfer? We're getting a very good young player and we won't be seeing Ashley Young at right back most weeks.

It's all about the accuracy of the crosses. Someone like TAA
It pains me to say but his delivery is absolutely incredible, possibly the best I've seen since Beckham. He has defensive frailties against the best players but almost every ball he put in you know is going to be bang on the money. He had about 9 assists in the last 15 games he played last season.

AWB is far more solid defensively and is still up there as one of the best in the league at 21.

Liverpool have the best pair of attacking fullbacks in the world. I think the notion that defenders must be good at defense first is now old-fashioned. Fullbacks and defenders should push on more and rack up assists/goals like how TAA, Robertson and VVD do for Liverpool. Why worry about conceding if you are guaranteed to score more than your opponents?

I'd rather take the fullback with the most assists in the League rather than the one with most clearances. After all, clearing the ball does not count as a goal while an assist leads directly to one.

Liverpool being the champion of Europe is no coincident. They have discovered that in this day and age, all players on the field must contribute to attack rather than defenders doing defense old-school type of thinking.

All of the top teams in europe since roughly 2008 have pushed their fullbacks high to join in with attacks. The Barca team, City, Madrid, now Liverpool. The best attacking teams have the best fullbacks generally, again its no coincidence. We havent had this for roughly the same time period, low and behold we havent been an effective attacking team during that period.

I entirely agree. We have excelled these last few years both terms of identifying the right transfer targets and successfully recruiting the players that will significantly improve our side. Close to all of our signings have made huge strides in their development since they joined us and this has been reflected in their crucial contributions to the team's overall performance and accomplishments. There is nothing to indicate why the outcome would be any different with AWB and it really puzzles that so many would suggest otherwise.

And we're finally addressing a position which has failed to have a specialist in it since the days of Rafael/Fabio who lets face it themselves were just stop gaps in the long drawn out search for Gary Neville's replacement a player who retired 10 years ago

Had we not failed to get into the UCL last season I have no doubt we'd of finally addressed the dreaded right wing as well :(

You are the one narrowing the goal-posts to a bizarre sample size of just 6 players … in a vain attempt to disprove the point that, in general, CBs cost more than fullbacks.

Since United are apparently being quoted fees between £55m and £100m for both FB & CB positions, what goalposts would you deem appropriate? It's arguably one of the only relevant sample pools. Also, it was you that made the statement, I've provided relevant factual information to the contrary. In order for your statement to hold value, the onus is on you to provide some relevant evidence to the contrary. You don't get to be the judge in this. I won't be hearing from you again on this though.

Criticism about Wan Bissaka is fine, saying that Ashley Young will be the first choice right winger next season due to this signing is proper stupid.

I'm sure that post you made sounded pretty smart in your mind but next time try to read the post before actually commenting. Actually properly reading things will help you in life too so consider it as an advice.

Thats made alot easier when you have a rock like VVD at CB and most weeks 3 midfielders who offer very little going forward

Saw that, again solid with a few decent passes and no real attacking threat.

With Shaw on the other side also average going forward and our poor wide players I think creativity will continue to be a big issue for us.

But on the plus side I don't have to watch Ashley Young play football hopefully. God is great.

One notable thing alongside defensive powress was, he kept giving the ball away.

Still nothing substantial on us signing this lad. I think Castles spoke wayyyy too soon. I’ve read United have denied agreeing a fee. Ffs!!!

Why not play with 2 banks of wingers then

I think he can dribble his way up the field just fine.

The issue for me is that he seems like he won't be able to withstand the pressing of the rivals on our back 4, and will likely give the ball away quite alot against the like of city and liverpool.

His passing game seems a bit meh, and we have no evidence that he can cross the ball or pull it back across the ground properly.

Yes, he will be an upgrade on Ashley Young, Valencia and Darmian. And will be better defensivley than Dalot, who still haunts me in my nightmares with the wrongly ruled offside goal West Ham scored at Old Trafford.
But, is it enough ? Won't we look for an upgrade in a year's time ?

No deal for AWB yet. All false reports.
It'll happen. Way too much smoke without fire.

Its just a case of sorting out the right deal that's all. AWB is away with England, maybe both clubs don't want to announce until the medical has been done.

Honestly, as good a purchase as you can possibly hope for to come in at right back. Absolutely fantastic signing.

Only concern now is whether or not we push on and keep strengthening, because we're absolutely finished if we don't.

Personally i'd rather not sign a single player if it meant the Glazers would feck off.

From the Mitten article:

"United fans need to support him and not jump on his every mistake as he settles in on a far bigger stage. Fans at matches do tend to be far more supportive than online so he has little to worry about there."

How many on Twitter are actually fans though?

The dream is to get Sancho in front of him with license to just attack.

Whoever eventually gets that RW position will love having AWB protecting. We might not enjoy the right side that much this season with Lingard and Mata. Here’s hoping Mason has enough fight in him.

Very good longevity signing.

It wasn't smart but that's hardly a rarity around here these days when it comes conversation about United. Regardless I wasn't looking to impress you. I found what you said conceited and condescending which is something that is a little less of a rarity. I doubt very much you are as willing to listen to scepticism about Wan-Bissaka as much as you claim. More likely you'd label whoever you were responding to as a negative moron or something to that effect As for Young somehow creeping back into the team next season whether it be as a result of some tenuous connection to AWB or anything else. Given how things have been going these last few years - hardly such an outlandish claim.

That sounds like a pretty lame excuse for a stupid post. If you think that there's a chance that Young is our first choice right winger next season then I don't know what to tell you. You can keep on being miserable.

I think this was/is definitely the plan.

Let Sancho do his thing, AWB to back him up.

For those that see him on a scale of 1 to 10 how press resistant is he? Does he help or compound the hoofing problem?

One thing he offers is the possibility of playing as a right sided CB in a back 3. Dalot as a right wing back ahead of him.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ole implement this in some of the bigger games.

My exact sentiments. Put a Sancho in front of him, will surely improve his attacking impact significantly. Think of all the spaces, offball runs, thread through passes and one-twos... Insisting on finding a 2 way fullback is easier said than done. We have neglected the right wing for years and its time we address that after this signing.
