People talking about Dalot, I think last season he played best when brought on in a more attacking position.

There could be games where both could play on the right hand side.

I personally think AWB is a fantastic talent and should be a priority buy. City didn't mess around with Kyle Walker, get the fee paid and we've got ten years minimum service out of this kid.

Yeah possibly additional 6 years of service is ridiculous.
That's one of the problems we have. While other teams around us sign good players who do a good job right now, we look for players who are "possibly" good or can "possibly" become good one day.

Same reason they sold Pogba and will probably sell Dybala. They prefer to sell when they'll get maximum value rather than offer a player market rate contract.

It sounds good. But it’s hardly true is. Pogba as an assist they didn’t want to sell. Dybala and Cancelo haven’t had good seasons (To Juve’s standard) and they are happy to sell.

People talk so much about Cancelo but why do Juve want to sell him after only a year? Surely there must be something wrong with Cancelo.

I think they want to sell him to get funds (Pogba). There is nothing wrong with Cancelo, you will believe me when you see him tearing it up at City. Selling him makes no sense sporting wise, so it has to be financially.

With that strategy you'd think they'd only buy up and coming players. But they were heavily linked with a Pogba return.

It’s not a strategy he just made it up. You think the Pogba situation a first team crucial player is in any relation to two players they have public made known they could do without?

People say that he will be coached, but which player has improved in our squad in the past year? We do not have a Pep, Klopp or even LVG. Ole couldn't even coach our strikers ffs. I am not hating, just saying the idea of just coaching someone to be better going forward as a full back is stupid. He is playing under Pellegrini who you could say could have coached him, why would Ole make the difference?
It's nothing more than wishful thinking. By that logic we have players in our own team who we could coach and avoid spending fortune on a player who is clueless in attack. A defensive right back is pretty much the most limited position in football, he isn't worth that kind of money.

Who is playing under Pellegrini?

One of the problems we have is definitely recruitment I agree. However going for the best talents around is not the problem in my opinion, you can always recoup part of the fee if anything. AWB was the best RB along with TAA last season he would be a great buy and the best option in this market.

We allegedly tried to bid at 25m, they asked for 70. We bid 40, they asked for 60m. Deal.gets done at 50.
Which when you consider that Madrid just paid 50 million euros for Mendy is absolutely daylight robbery .
This buying English players at crazy prices is just stupid

Exactly. He will be improvement on what we have from day 1 and also he is already good RB.

If we do sign him then I hope we see a first team RW next.

After many years we might actually see some balance on the right side, RB who can actually defend and an actual RW :nervous:.

A defensive right back is pretty much the most limited position in football, he isn't worth that kind of money.

RBs as good defensively and as athletic as Wan-Bissaka are few and far between. I thought he was comfortably the best defensive fullback in the league last season. He's the RB version of Ashley Cole.

Not a good deal imo. Yeah he's young with a lot of potential but he won't improve our attack at all.

Also I can see lots of negative posts about him when people realize he's not really that great.

People are exaggerating the attacking support required by a fullback. Attackers and mids are meant to provide the threat, fullbacks are just a bonus if they can support well.

G Neville and and Evra for example were never amazing going forward. Neither was Brown.

That would be true but who do we have on wings and in midfield to provide the threat at the moment?

Fair enough but I would go around looking for a complete fullback simply because we lack in other areas. You have to assume we fix RW too. Had we bought Sancho first I assume you'd be happy with AWB.

What is an extra £10m for us? Just give them £50m and make the deal.

This was ten years ago and it’s fair to say that the role of the fullback has moved on. Just look at Alexander-Arnold in that first half against the Swiss. His crossing is genuinely brilliant. If Wan Bissaka can’t do that then it’s a disadvantage, even in spite of how good he clearly is at defending (something I don’t mean to understate).

He's far from the finished article. He might still become a great crosser. It's a step in the right direction with the possibility of becoming a leap.

I would rather we spend £10-15 million extra and get the player we want - even if it means we only can afford to sign 4 players when we need 5

We need to get the right players - and AWB is the right player for our rightback position. I agree - Meunier is a better player right now, but he turns 28 in september, he is a short-term solution.

One season wonder suggests he's had his best season. What if he has an even better season next year, he would be worth even more?

The good thing about bidding big on a young player like this is we will probably recoup our money anyway regardless of his success. Let's say we pay 50m, he is okay for us but not great, and we decide to get rid in 3 years. With market inflation as it is we could probably get 50m back for him. I think he'll be a great signing though and I happy we are in for him.
I remember people saying similar after Kane's breakout season. I was saying on here then that we should sign him at the £50m being bandied around but I was told no, could be a one season wonder and, even if he has another good season he'll still be worth £50m. A year later and his value had at least doubled....

£50M is a fair price for AWB in this market. As others have said, Walker cost City £50M two years ago and we paid £30M for Shaw five years ago. You have to pay up to get a young quality full back. We've bid £40M and Palace want £60M so hopefully we end up meeting in the middle and get this done.

Whipping in a decent ball is something that should be fairly obvious from the outset, no?

Dalot, for example, can do that well. He can’t defend like Wan Bissaka, though.

Yeah that's a good example. Theres no way AWB will be worth less than 50m in 3/4 years.

I'd much prefer AWB, but a 27 year old really isn't a very short term solution.

I mean £50m is feck all for us and if spending that goes on young talents with big potential then that is exactly what we must do even if it costs more. Spending on the right type of players is crucial and will make a big difference. Spend £300m on young talent for all I care we need a revamp.

Palace is really trying to mug us. 35 mil should be enough for him. He's quite good defensively and quite agile. In fact, I would say his quick acceleration and agility are what keeps him going. it's very difficult for opponent to twist around him because he's just as agile but offensively, he's pretty tame. His passing apart from short passes are just not good enough. So is his crossing skill. He's got one move while dribbling which is to shift the ball to his left and push it forward to confuse the defender while he quickly nip forward, aided by his acceleration or could just use his acceleration straight way with his right foot.

Anyway, 40 mil is even too much for him let alone 60mil. Abort plan please.
