Meunier is the superior player. We are going to end up over paying because he is English.

Really don't understand how people could be so desperate for this guy with Shaw already on the other side... If we had prime Marcelo, it could maybe be justified.

No one here would questioning his attacking attribute if he's similar to Ashley Cole.
No one.

They would be because Cole's numbers were never that good in terms of goals or assists

People that are sceptical towards AWB clearly have forgotten how bad we truly are. Sort the freaking defense out first, goals can be scored with some better coaching. AWB and De Ligt first. We need a rebuild from scratch, that means longevity and youth.

Why are we fooling around under bidding. Some other club could come over the top.

Because atm we have a very over the hill young

If you want a big gaping hole defensively then sure - go for Munier.

Also, I'm unsure why there are a lot of posters that claim AWB is just good defensively and that's where it ends. I wish I saw more of Palace this season but when I saw him I didn't think he was just about the defense. He seemed very comfortable linking up going forward.

He can certainly beat players in dribbles, which is already more than what a lot of right backs can offer. I don't think he's a player that solely relies on his pace going forward, or even defensively - so when looking from a longevity angle it seems very positive for a target like him.

Not if we are trying to build something for the future.
You need foundations to build one. We can’t just ignore the next few years. Buying an established RB for a very reasonable fee allows us to remain competitive while spending money on more pressing areas, and allowing the young talent we already have - like Dalot - the time and space to develop organically.

Meunier has never performed at the level that Wan-Bissaka did last season and he's hardly likely to in the future. He would just be another mediocre player that would be considered deadwood soon after we signed him.

He really isn’t. he’s got a good cross on but that’s about it.

I have no problem with us spending big money on a fullback given how important fullbacks are. However, the suggestion that he isn't particularly good going forward does worry me as the attacking aspect of a fullback's game is largely what makes them so important.

Also I wonder if signing a young, expensive fullback is the best use of our limited resources when we already have two young & highly rated fullbacks in Dalot and Laird. I would have thought that signing someone with Meunier's profile for a lot less would be a more efficient way of strengthening the squad given we already have that younger talent in place.

He is a good player though, from the little I've seen of him at least.

What a signing this will be.

Young, English, looks like he has heart and is brilliant at defending.

Those complaining about his attacking, the main job of a defender is to defend.

Also being a great defender means the attacking players don't have to come back as much meaning they can spend more time attacking.

Why haven't they bidded? They probably looked at him and kept moving.

You know this to be a fact? First you said they were not interested, now you know they haven't bid?
I have no idea if they have or have not. I only know they have been linked with him plenty and he has been mentioned as a target of theirs plenty also

From what Sam Lee said the issue was the Palace asking price (so they must have at least enquired)

I said no top club will come for him apart from us and it seems we are the only one who made a bid..

I'd go to 50m and if that's turned down go for Meunier. Spending 60 or 70 is madness for a player with one solid season at Palace. If we can get Meunier for 25 or 30 then it spreads the money out in other areas. We need to spend big on CB, the money could also help push deals like Bruno Fernandes over the line. AWB has to push the move a bit too, if he's content at Palace then that's not a good sign either. Meunier is a big United fan and that will make a difference if he comes, not just a childhood fan but one now. He's been at games this season and everything.

present participle: bidding, past tense: bid, past participle: bid

"Why haven't they bid" and the answer is, how on Earth can anyone on redcafé tell you that or even tell you whether or not United, City or Spurs have made a bid?

I'm sure he - and hundreds of others who read your post - will never use "bid" wrong again.

"Show me the blueprints."

"I bid you farewell"

Does that mean I did it in the past or, as I thought, I am doing it now?

I don't care if it's AWB or anyone else. Just don't start Young at RB next season. I thought Dalot had a decent first season though so I'd be surprised if we bought AWB unless we are planning for Dalot to be more of a winger.

Dalot is 20.. he can cover left and right backs .. Its always good to have options to push the first choice

This. He seems an elite defender from I hear about him. Less goals conceded, less goal needed to win games and Aaron's shortcomings going forward won't be an issue.

The importance of full backs in the modern game is evident hence the price inflation currently. £50m should hopefully suffice though..
