Now all we need is to sign another midfield to complete the trio. I'd say its Adam, Young and Jones for this summer...

Honestly I prefer playing Park instead of Young. But right when Giggs retired we probably need 4 quality wingers. Nani, Valencia, Park and Young will do.
Young is better than Park.. No doubt about that!

After seeming to be standing still for a couple of years, Young has really developed in the last 2 years or so. One of the few English qualified players with, I call it, "Barca style technique" who's starting to stamp his athority in games.
He should even develop to the next level playing alongside better players than he was used to at Villa. I also have it on good athority that a whole host of big European clubs were after him (not just in the EPL) but he chose United. In other words, this should be a really top signing for us.

A word of warning, Playing at United is different from Villa. Being a good player does not guarantee he'll make it at OT.
I'm curious, which clubs exactly?

The thing is Young had all these same stats last year and the year before.

Yet the vast majority of the caf didnt think he was all that great till he started playing well for England in recent months

Its true a lot of people are fickle, but you could say they are just being positive and giving him a chance to be as good as they are making out
I think it's more the fact that people can accept that their opinion isn't flawless and when they see the best manager in the game think he's worth going for they try to look at what they've been missing/ignoring that Sir Alex and his scouts have seen. It almost seems like you're taking a shot at people who are showing a bit of humility...

And I think he's reminded people (well, me) that he's actually quite handy at the passing game and that his own playing style was less of an influence on him looking somewhat one-dimensional as the playing style of O'Neill's Villa. And he's shown people he can play well at international level, yes...not everyone had the foresight to know he could. Some had doubts - again, that's hardly something worth taking a shot at (and yes that's how the middle paragraph comes across).

Doesn't really seem necessary. He might just upset the balance of the team in the manner in which bringing in Berbatov upset the attacking trio of Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez.

It is true that his last England performance was good, but he was struggling to make a significant impact most of the time before that. Well and good if he signs, but I don't think his impact will be any greater than that of Valencia (I know he had a great impact but the reason I am saying bringing it in to the picture is, people are reacting if this is a better signing than the signing of Valencia two years ago). So he has only 1 year left and is supposedly as expensive as Valencia who was younger when he came in, and people are saying he is cheap. I know it is not an exact science and that there is an english tax, but it still seems expensive

To be honest a lot on here dont think like that at all. They just spout lazy opinions because they see someone like you has said something and think it must be correct

You should probably take a look at my previous comments re: Young in this thread

I think he offers a slight bit more than Valencia coming forward, definitely a lot less defensively. But I also like the fact he can play on the left which means Nani can play on the right when in form

I think he's a good player. I always felt that way when some others were taking shots at him and didnt think he was good. And now it looks like we're signing him I still think he's a good player. My only concern is the price and wages because the figures that have been mentioned thus far are over the top

So why would I be taking shots? I was actually trying to explain it to those talking about people changing their tune when we show interest in a player and go from not rating him to making him out to be great.

We've all seen that happen and it might be the case, but as I said - it might just be people being positive and giving him a chance

Most Villla fans think Downiing was their best player last season ...

Yes it is true that Villa fans are not that fussed about Young leaving but are more concerned that Downing could be on his way.

Whilst you thought Bale was better than Modric last season. Fans can get it wrong. Most Villa fans are also idiots, that can't help.
I dont think he did think Bale was better than Modric. But cmon who watched more Spurs games last season. You or him?

Why are Villa fans idiots as opposed to other fans?

I had an argument with a Villa fan last night who claimed Downing was better then Young, when I put it to him what reasons he had for believing that he went quite.

Your obvious implication is utter bollocks, they're just resigned to losing Young and have been for some time.

Actually I didn't think Bale was better than Modric.

I've simply relayed what most of the posters on VillaTalk were saying during (and at the end of) last season. That view comes from fans who saw both players week in and week out, up close.

Dismiss it if you wish ... now that Young has signed for Man. Utd of course.

The difference is, at the time we needed a right winger. Ronaldo left.
Now, we don't really need a winger. We have both Nani and Valencia, then there's Park, and not to mention Giggs...so i really don't see the need for him.

Anyway, i couldn't care less if he came to us or not. More the merriei say.
Things we need:

- A left winger. Nani is not a left winger, he cuts in 99% of the time and his left foot consists of just belting it at goal.

- A dead ball specialist. Our corners and free kicks are shocking for a PL winning team and CL finalist.

- More English players. Lost a few good men last season and say what you will, United are an English team and always have been.

- Fluidity on the wings like our Ronaldo days. Valencia is a one trick pony who has to stay on the right. He's a good one trick pony, but can't do anything down the left. We played our best football when both wingers were allowed to switch sides mid-attack and draw out defenders.

- Someone to replace Giggs' ability on the wing - i.e. a dribbler who "likes to get chalk on his boots".

Let's see... Check. Check. Check. Check. Check. Young covers all the bases for an attack minded player that we need. Plus he offers things like speed, versatility, and tricks for the ladies.

MUFC reach agreement with AVFC for the transfer of Ashley Young. He's passed a medical and agreed a 5-year contract.

Ah the good old Glaston tactic of accusing of bias.

Find a single person on here saying Downing is better than Young.

Why are you looking at VillaTalk?

Fans are generally less enthusiastic at players they think are going to leave. I'd imagine there are some bollocks getting talked about Modric on Spurs forums, if you ever venture there.

Long deals we're tying these lads up for aren't they. Both Jones and Young 5 years.

He's an excellent signing, gets defenders on the back foot and always looks dangerous. Looking forward to seeing him in action.
