Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

I thought that too, til Jon died.

Not that it matters much, soon enough they'll realize that nobody ever actually seems to be f*cking dead.

Yeah, Jon will be resurrected or brought back to life in some way probably which shows the whole death thing has been toned down. When you take out Ned, he tends to let most of his major POV characters live, while killing most of the kings and leaders.

Series has done a good job of hyping up the whole "anyone can die" thing. While it's still there in the books it's faded now and you can sort of spot the patterns and who's safe after a while.
Sometimes it's very obvious, like in the case of Davos: when it was mentioned in a throwaway comment that his head had been put on display at White Harbor you could tell something was not right, GRRM wouldn't just kill him off like that. And he didn't.

Jon, though... that was a shock. But nobody seems to think he's actually permanently dead.

 Thats not that bad, he didnt post anything like a spoiler.

Although I will never understand the overreaction of the book readers or why the book readers cant just stay in this thread.
you see the same pattern over and over. Book reader says something they think is completely inconspicuous and meaningless. Show watchers realize that they are a book reader, they tell them to feck off. Book reader does a McNulty "What the f*ck did I do?", hell breaks loose, book reader gets threadbanned.

Or, if you're Revan, you never learn and just keep posting in there and ruining things for people forever.

GRRM's biggest flaw as a writer is probably his annoying habit to have someone die off-screen, or be implied to be dead or in a position where they'll probably die, to then reveal they're not dead. Happened with Bran, Davos, Theon, kind of Jaime and possibly the Hound.

Yeah strictly speaking it's not really a spoiler if you say it's differently in the books but most in this thread don't even wanna hear about this fact and after you have mentioned the books they will pretty much assume anything you say about the show will automatically contain spoilers.

I respect that there are a lot of people in the thread who don't wanna hear anything from us book readers so I never post there. It's the simplest solution and I don't think it's too much to ask of us book readers especially because we have our own thread.

Fixed.

Jaime? I don't remember even a rumour about his death? He was just captured.

I keep forgetting about Bran as he annoys me and bores me equally in both the TV show and in the books.

When they left him on that cliffhanger at the end of book 2 like Catelyn would have him killed, then he's in the next one having been freed. Was actually a good cliffhanger, but a minor example.

With all of them (except the Hound who might be dead) it was obvious they weren't dead. Catelyn is the only one I was surprised by. I don't mind it tbh.

I don't see it as a flaw it actually keeps you reading imo. You wanna know what really happened, of course you catch on to the fact that important people never really die "off screen" but it will still keep you interested in finding out what really happened.

Other things are also due to the world this whole story takes place in and the way communication works in a medieval fantasy setting. A lot of rumors floating around that travel through conversations among the small folk and of course lies and propaganda everywhere.

True Catelyn's resurrection is a bit of a strange one considering that she was a pov character in the books. I always took this to mean that whatever she is now there is little to nothing of Cat left in her and that is why we are nor really hearing anything from her anymore.

 I remember his innocence while doing it.

Normally I agree with them but in this case I feel its a bit harsh. All he said was its longer in the books, banning him was needless.

Same here, I only go there to ask questions about the episode if I dont wanna watch it but want to know how they presented a certain idea or read their reactions. Otherwise, tend to stay in this thread.

Ned Stark was nearing the tower where his sister was. "If you come any closer am gon' pop a cap in yo' ass.", Dwayne said to him from a distance.

:lol::lol:

Quote of the thread so far!

Holy shit I just watched it. So fecking brutal. Poor Oberyn :( even knowing what was going to happen I was still sad before it did.

Aw man I know what people mean now saying they can't get it out of their head  I can still hear his scream.

Ugh, the scream. I re-watched the fight for some reason, it just made it worse. I'm never watching the scene again.

I usually watch an episode twice. Not putting myself through that episode again though. ugh

Watch it again. You know you want to.

I just watched it a second time and laughed when I thought of the reactions from non-book readers. I mean bloody hell, it was a short scene but the tide turned so quickly! I'd probably be traumatised with all the stuff this show throws at them

Yeah, I can't get it out of my head now. Not cool at all.

Tywin's death will be big enough, as will Jon's apparent death when it happens. Beyond that though are there any other major shocks next season? Can't think of a whole lot else that's gonna happen really.

Really Oberyn's death was the last big shock in the books. Very grim.

Jon? Cat coming back?

Jon? Cat coming back?

Jon's death wasn't that big a shock as everyone seems to think he'll be back. I'd forgotten about Cat, though that'll be done within a couple of episodes anyway. Next season looks like it'll be fairly weak in comparison...

Not sure. Just look how much they've changed/added this season, which is the season with the best book of them all at its disposal. I reckon they'll keep shifting things up to keep it going strong. They have to.

Obviously I knew it was coming but was still horrible. I can't help think they should have given the Mountain more of a character though.

The Red Wedding still wins the prize for the best/worst deaths.

That's the big disappointment really, the Mountain is basically a nobody in the series.

They did a shit job with the mountain, but they also made Oberyn a far better character than he was in the books, hence why the reactions to this are mostly because of the fact that he died in such a horrible fashion where as my reaction in the book was because Gregor lived.

Do you remember Sir Robert Strong from the 5th book ?

It's because he was so confident and likeable too. To see someone with so much bravado and an aura of invincibility screaming like that while he gets his eyes gouged out. Ugh, just unsettling. F*cking GRRM.
