Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

I genuinely think of all the deaths in the books, the oberyn one was the most distressing for me. Mostly because Martin brought us so close to believing the mountain was about to perish, that someone was finally about to receive their appropriate judgement only to be taken away at the last moment.
Yep. Right up there with one of the deaths that wrecked me the most. Goddamit, GRRM.

Anyway, so what is show Shae's motivation for betraying Tyrion then? Book Shae was promised gold, jewels etc. Show Shae?

Reading the tv thread is a riot. Someone actually thought Ramsey was feeding the key to his dogs. Couldn't figure out based on the scene that he was unlocking the cage. Think one poster has to be wumming

The TV watchers actually thought that was a filler episode... I can't for the life of me understand how these people lasted until this season.

Edit: To be fair, most thought it was good. There's always one, though. And that guy is usually RN7.

Man of Leisure called Yara by her book name and has now predicted Oberyn vs The Mountain in the trial by combat...

Given their little Syrio Forel hype last week I'm surprised none of them have suggested he makes a triumphant return to fight for Tyrion.

LOL.

As far as guessing Mountain v Obyeron is not that difficult a guess even if you have not read the book. Obyeron is in the show for some reason and he had made it obvious what he came to Kings Landing, so easy jump to make.

It seems to me as though they're making Shae seem more emotionally attached and her thought process is based more on feelings than the materialistic, 'whore-like' reasons she betrayed Tyrion in the book. It'll probably make the death even more shocking.

One thing I don't think the show has gotten across well is how bad the mountain truly is, nobody really cares about him so there won't be that hope that he finally dies during the fight, and the disappointment. Unless they really build that up in the next episode before their fight, still not sure if it can have the same effect though. Oberyn will be missed though.

Thought it had more effect in the books that Drogon killed a child, not a goat.

I don't know. I like Oberyn, but I think he got his revenge against the Mountain. Red Viper chooses not to kill the Mountain in any case. His aim is only to wring a confession out of him as he has already poisoned him with this spears and Oberyn wants to make sure that Mountain doesn't die a quick death. His death was not expected, but he still beat the Mountain in the fight and gave him a painful and slow death.

Cersei hands over Mountain to Pycelle though and they do some kind of Frankenstein shit with him, but for all purposes, Mountain is dead with no memories etc.

I've been in Aurora, CO, the past two Sundays and do not have HBO at the lodging facility (Buckley AFB). Since I'm out here for a few months, I cancelled HBO at my residence in Georgia, and no longer have access to HBO Go.

Does anyone have a link where I can watch the episodes?

Very true.

HBO don't care if people share HBO Go passwords. Why don't you share with someone in your family? Try Slevs otherwise, he was downloading a lot of stuff.

Qyburn.

Yeah it will not be as dramatic for TV watchers as it was for book readers I think. While there will still be the does Tyrion get off drama and of course everyone likes Oberyn and will hate to see him go. The Mountain just is not the figure in the show that he was in the books.

According to Imdb the actor playing Gregor is only in the one episode titled The Mountain and The Viper, so I doubt there'll be much build up of his character. The only thing I can imagine them doing is dedicating most of the episode to it and maybe some characters talking about him.

He looks mean as hell in the preview. According to YouTube comments he's also Iceland's strongest man. Bit of a mountain, alright.

Pity that probably one of the toughest scenes for me to read in the book(worse than the rw, which I didn't really care for) isn't going to come across well on the show :( To most TV watchers, he's probably just going to be that cool, womanizing prince that got killed, when in the books, it was such a gut wrenching moment due to my pent up hate for Gregor.

Davos' campaign speech  *cringe* at least Tyrion's speech was epic(probably secured his Emmy nom), so it wasn't a shit episode for speeches.
And what was with the Oberyn and Varys moment? I might have missed something, but it seemed like it was done to tell us of Varys wanting the throne, which itself seems pointless.

Oh and Asha(never calling her Yara) with her speech last season and now, only to high tail it out of there and basically abandon her brother  Sure, retreating was the smart thing to do, but what a let down.

FWIW, I didn't find many book readers who were that moved with the Red Wedding. Catelyn and Robb were two of my favourite characters for some reason, so I didn't like it, but it was mostly the show watchers who were just like ermagawd because they expected a utopia end with Robb conquering the Seven Kingdoms.

Lots of spoiling going on in the TV thread. They can't contain themselves when things are left hanging.

Well we weren't that devastated because we already had our moment of shock years before the red wedding episode aired. It was no less painful to read it though.

Loved the episode and I though the trial was well done. The only thing I don't is how Mace Tyrell is portrayed. He wasn't the brightest but he wasn't some clueless buffoon either. Oh and the dreadfort raid was fecking stupid.

It was worse because Oberyn had won but got a bit cocky towards the end:(

Aye, that is very true. It probably was slightly more painful to read because of the eerie music that boomed through the chapter. And that was just reading it.
Did the failed Dreadfort raid happen in the books?

No. Asha in the books doesn't give 2 shits about Theon. Complete filler.

There were. I remembered there was a multi page thread of the asoiaf forum asking people what their reaction to the red wedding was and majority seemed shocked. There were even some 'I had to drop the book and couldn't pick it up for a few days afterwards'

It was almost like they portrayed him from Cersei's pov as I remember her thinking he was a fat, bumbling buffoon.

Yeah I remember thinking just kill the fecker already, but I guess he really wanted the confession. And now with frankenGregor, he's not even fully dead:mad:

I actually put the book down for a week after the Red Wedding. A whole week. Okay not that long I know.

The lack of Mountain is still so annoying. The fight just won't have the same effect.

All they had to do was show him randomly killing people or being cruel in general. Not very hard I'd imagine.
