Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

Someone should tell those poor bastards that she can't magic her entire army to Westeros. She needs ships and lots of them

If they had it their way the series would be over already. Dragons born, dragons grow huge quickly, Dany gets an army, fly them all to Westeros on the back of her Dragons. Dragons lay waste to the Lannisters and pretty much everyone else. Dragons rush to the wall, destroy the wildlings and the others. Dany becomes Queen, marries Jon Snow, has an affair with Arya (once she grows up). Sansa still has no clue but ends up marrying a pretty knight who probably isn't all that gay. Done and dusted in one maybe two seasons at the most.

Even better would be.......some stuff happens on Westeros.....Dragons are born instantly fly to Westeros and kill everyone and everything that is bad......done in an hour.

I don't know what they are moaning about. Since the dragons hatched all Dany has done is continually move West from Qarth, which is almost at the Eastern edge of Essos. Even staying in Meereen made sense even if it did not make very interesting reading.

Until she has an army capable of taking and holding Westeros, until her dragons get large enough to be the trump cards we all expect them to be and until she has some ships, she is kind of stuck where she is.

I suspect her staying is Meereen also drives home the point that she's not actually Viserys. She wasn't born in Westeros, never been there and never lived as a princess despite being a Targaryen. She talks about wanting to go there but her actions and thoughts contradict her.

And what with the 9 year winters, the Others, the constant wars, Regicide, all the raping etc, well Westeros seems a little shit doesn't it?

The none book viewers are not going to get over the rape scene, the director could have fecked up the Jaime Lannister character for a lot of people.

Littlefinger has become a parody of himself. The acting was incredibly shit in that ship scene, it made me cringe. Stannis' character can't be saved anymore.

It's a shame Lord Tywin will die this season. I'll miss Charles Dance.

The Littlefinger acting has always been a bit over the top, trying too hard to come accross as smarmy. Obviously with so many characters there will be a wide range of performances. Stannis also comes accross poorly, almost as if the actor in attempting to portray Stannis' unyielding ways has decided that the best thing to do is walk around like a 2x4 all day long.

It must be weird for them though, we know them as really in depth characters from the books and they are only on set for a week or two each year to shoot a few short scenes which are sprinkled across the entire season. I think Liam Cunningham is brilliant as Davos though

The show is going to be in trouble once Tywin dies. He's literally saving episodes now.

I find Stannis, Littlefinger, Sam and Jon all a bit shit on the show and their roles are only going to get bigger.

Yes, Cunningham is very good. And he's got a tough job, considering how little airtime he gets compared to how much we know about Davos from the books.

@JustAFan yeah, Littlefinger has never been the greatest but in this latest episode he's ridiculously over the top in my opinion. Stannis has simply been a trainwreck from the start, not sure if it's a problem with writing, directing or acting or maybe all three.

Aidan Gillen is just shite, he's awful at accents. He was crap as Tommy Carcetti with his weird attempt at a Baltimore accent in the Wire, he was crap in Love/Hate at actually speaking with an Irish accent, and he's crap in this too.

Mostly the writing. There's an interview somewhere where David Benioff says Stannis is a villain. I think that's a very poor interpretation of the text and it's evident in the show.

Those scenes and interpretations make me shudder at the possibility of the show overtaking the books.

Wow. Never heard that and it makes no sense. Martin drills into us that Stannis is harsh and fair and it's quite telling that he gets on quite well (by Stannis' standards, anyway) with Jon Snow, one of the main protagonists and one of the "good guys".

Stannis was also the only king who turned up on the wall and raised a common man to his hand. The Jon-Stannis conversations were nice but I bet they will find a way to spoil that as well.

He along with Jon"I always leave my mouth half open and I only have one facial expression" Snow are the worst actors on the show, but at least Jon is passable, the Littlefinger character has been near unwatchable for a while now

Stannis is a dick.
Can't figure out why he even has fans.

I liked him there. To be fair, I think that he did a good job on Game of Thrones on the first two seasons, but since last season he decided to change the accent on every episode which is kind of weird. I didn't mind it for a while but the last episode was a bit ridiculous. It looked like he changed the accent for every word he said.

Stannis is by far the character who has suffered most from the bad translation from the books. There he was great, here he is shit. The actor is pretty good but the writing of him has been ridiculous. He is almost beyond repair. Has a lot of fans though (who haven't read the books) which is strange and maybe not as bad as I think he is.

Stannis is great in the books. No nonsense, a bit like Victarion, another character I really enjoy.

It's great having Game of Thrones back on TV, but it doesn't interest me half as much as ASOIAF. Hurry up GRRM, I need answers.

Aiden Gillen's accent was totally fine in the first season, it suited the character way better too. Now it's a weird mix of Irish, Welsh, Indian, Sean Connery and Batman.

He's actually almost worse at doing Irish accents though, which is impressive for someone who is Irish.

It's really strange what they did to Littlefinger I have to say. Maybe they wanted him to seem a bit more dangerous? Well whatever they are trying to do with his character it's not working he comes across like a joke now.

So has this thread turned solely into the thread where we complain about how things aren't as good as the books, now? Or how bad the actors are?

It's getting old, fast. The complaining, not the show. That's still pretty good.

Making completely unnecessary changes is likely to annoy book readers, so it's not entirely surprising.

But yes, the show is still very good.

Yeah, God forbid we express our opinions on an internet forum. The horror!

Quite an interesting episode. There was hardly anything from the books in that one, and huge deviations. The ice ice baby was interesting. I wonder if that's a spoiler for the books; I imagine it is. Not that it was such a hard guess.

I'm don't quite understand the reaction of the TV watchers. Boring episode? It wasn't Blackwater or The Red Wedding, but are they expecting every other episode to be like those? I'm surprised they made it four seasons if they do.

I'm beginning to feel like show watchers are idiots.

They are by definition people who are interested in a story yet have chosen to not read the original source material. Now, I'm sure there are plenty of intelligent people who watch the show with a casual interest and thus it makes total sense that they wouldn't read the books. But I'm equally sure there are a good chunk of people who love the show, but are too lazy/reading-phobic to read the books. Judgmental though it may be, when people say things like "I never/barely ever read books", I make an automatic assumption about their intelligence.

My brother has never been much of a book reader. He much prefers comics (not superhero or anything like that, but more mature comics). After watching the show since it started, he recently decided to read the books as well, and he's just about caught up with the show now. I think he still might like the TV show more than the book series, but that's understandable since he doesn't have the kind of relationship with it like we do (waiting years for the next book).

Yeah I was more referencing the modern phenomenon of people who avoid reading like the plague. The kind who will watch 10 hours of Planet Earth but be unwilling to pick up a 200 page book on the subject. I only started reading the books after the first season of the show. I'd heard of the series before but never really looked into it. I actually don't enjoy the books as much as a couple of other fantasy series, but I can't be bothered waiting for ten months every year to find out what happens next.
