Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

Shae is still annoying. Why couldn't they have her in character?

Have to admit the whole Oberyn-Elia explanation was done well. Sandor is great as well. "feck the king"

I am guessing from that episode that they will drag out the Bran-Aria story lines so as to not get too ahead.

Yeah well bad wording here. It's only Thoros who say they (Brootherhood without banners) gave him the "gift of mercy" so technically we don't know for certain that he is dead. Of course the "sightings" of the hound aren't really prove he is alive either because people only ever see his helm. I suspect that the red priest might not have lied about that they gave him the "gift of mercy" but he might not have said the whole truth either because as we know people who die around Thoros of Myr don't always stay dead.

I could be wrong but I think I remember them saying that the sighting of his helm turned out to be someone else pretending? So much in these books I forget half of it.

Yeah I don't remember the exact words anymore either but it's actually what I was trying to say, just because people saw his helm doesn't mean he is still alive. We just don't know either way he might be dead or alive, no concrete evidence has been given so far.

Correct.

From what I remember, it was some Septon who found Sandor after Arya left him. The Septon says Sandor is dead (but he probably isn't).

The helmet thing isn't really why people think he's alive, though.

Now I know the pain of others in the show thread having to be careful with any comments since I read the book recently. Basically, "good episode" is about as far as I'm willing to go.

I dare not go any further than Dany's tits

Most of them are already getting tired of Dany though

Of her, not of the tits of course.

They'll get a bit of a surprise when we're in season 6 and she's probably still not reached Westeros, unless they speed it up which would be quite wise.

The problem with speeding it up is that it'll mean speeding up everything else, and it just won't work. The only story that I can see being sped up is Bran's. They already did that last season, and I expect the same to happen again. On that note, they really need to recast the actor.

Yeah I just avoid posting in there now. Makes me laugh though people like "yeah can't wait for the dragons to wreak havoc" when we know they're going to be in cages very soon for a long time.

One of them's predicted that Oberyn's going to kill The Mountain really quickly, similarly to how Christian Bale's character kills that bloke at the end of Equilibrium.

I think they've gone too long for them to recast now. You can do it for a minor cast member, but he's pretty important. They're only going to be able to to go for someone of the same age anyway, since it'd be completely bizarre to recast him as someone much younger.

I think they should have done it this season to be honest. He's going to end up being almost 6' with stubble rash by the end of it the way they're going.

What other indications do we have that he is still alive apart from that we haven't really had point of view character seen his death? Help my porous memory.

Apparently he's the grave digger according to the Internet. Can't say I picked that up myself despite 2 readings but it does make sense.

I don't see how it matters. With the way seasons work, there is no way for the audience to tell how much time is "supposed" to have passed. There's no reason the plot isn't going to work with an older Bran. Sansa is already 18 years old and very tall. Arya can't pass for a boy anymore. Margaery is more than twice as old as she's "supposed" to be.

It doesn't matter.

As I said, you can't just do it with a major character since it becomes too obvious. The plot can still work, since there's no indication of how much time has passed.

Grave digger? I somehow have missed anything about a grave digger. Where does he appear? After Brienne had her face chewed off? Was that the reason she said that the hound had Sansa? I just assumed since he can't have Sansa the part about the hound was also a lie? Really didn't pick up on any clue that the grave digger could be Sandor, but then again I often miss stuff that people on the internet later point out.

Edit: Alright just looked up the grave digger theory. That totally passed me by but would make some sense considering that they also had his horse? Damn how do I keep missing stuff like that, but then again the guy who brought up the theory also needed 5-6 read throughs, I have only done 2 so far.

When that Septon and Brienne go to quick isle there is a grave digger there.

Just read the gravedigger theory. Seems plausible, but I can't see what use it is to the story. He's lame and no longer angry. He can't even dig graves properly.

I was totally unsold about guy playing Oberyn up until now, but he totally changed my opinion, even though he was totally not what I pictured, actually seeing him in action kind of changed how I view the character now

Same here.

Now they need to build up Gregor's cruelty to a nasty level.

I pictured Oberyn with longer hair but other than that he seems spot on.

Absolutely brilliant episode. Daeneris' story was as boring as usual but other parts were really great Especially the last ten minutes or so with Arya and the Hound.

I am already liking Oberyn, they gave him a perfect appareance. They need to show Gregor a bit more before the duel.

I didn't expect Oberyn to look like that either, but the actor is working the role really well and makes it very believable.

When oh when oh when oh when oh WHEN is the Winds of Winter coming out?????

I sooooo want to read it. Like right now.

This moment.

Now.

After the last book (A Dance with Dragons), I'm not really looking forward to the next book. I'm going to get lynched in here for this but, I think GRRM is not a very good writer - his prose is, well, awful. I read the first four books when I was quite young and loved the story, but now I think it's better to watch than read, despite the numerous changes.

Saying that, I'll probably buy it anyway!

Usually the big event is at the end of episode 9 so maybe they'll have Tyrion killing Tywin then.

Also can't wait for the Stoneheart reveal.
The battle will be too big to not take up an entire episode plus they'll have to not rush the escape of Tyrion plus the killings. Also, have seen that because of so many of the big moments this season, episode 10 will be what 9 was previous seasons. There was an interview with the director of episode 10 claiming such.

The first 3 books are very, very good, especially the 3rd, but then there is a very noticeable decline in the 4th and 5th books, and you honestly get the impression GRRM doesn't really know where he's going - or does know, but is stretching it out far more than he needs to.

The 4th book has far too much Cersei doing shit, Brienne wandering the Riverlands, side plots about Dorne and minor characters there which I didn't care about, and Jaime just talking to people. It's too drawn out. There are good parts, but also lots and lots of filler. GRRM could have cut loads of it out. And the 5th book also goes on far too much. The Theon chapters are good, and I seem to be alone in absolutely loving Bran's chapters, but the endless Quentyn Martell chapters annoyed me: again, a character that's only just been introduced, that GRRM could have cut way down on. Tyrion chapters have some good parts mixed in with dragging on parts. The Dany chapters just go on and on and nothing much happens, and only get good right at the end, and Arya's chapters are boring compared to her earlier stuff.

The 4th and 5th books just feel like GRRM wanted to write some filler before we get to the more important stories in the 6th and 7th books. That is bad writing, to be fair. But then the first 3 books are so good that I know GRRM is a good writer. He just lost it in the last 2 books.

I thought the Thenns were done really well.

Very cool and creepy for sure.

Unrecognisable from the books though. The cannibal dude with the ritual scars on the TV show was the same guy Jon Snow thought was Mance Raider whenhe first went into the wildlings camp (in the books).

Also, one of the Thenns marries a Karstark and forms "House Thenn" in the books! Can't see the TV Thenns doing that!
