Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

I can't remember Yara/Asha sailing to rescue Theon in the books. Can someone refresh my memory as to her storyline. I remember something about Deepwood Motte.

I do remember her being sent to capture the castle and possibly help him. But I don't know if it was to actually rescue him or not, I tended to skip over that story line as I never got into the seafolk side of things. It was the reason she ended up fleeing from winterfell on land or something wasn't it?

No, not in the third book anyway. In AFFC she went to Winterfell after it was burnt to a crisp but she couldn't find Theon.

It's very important that they get Ramsay right, if the actor does a good job he could overtake Joffrey as the most hated character... actually, I don't think anyone will overtake Joffrey, but we'll see. But Ramsay has to be done well. I've been impressed by what I've seen with the actor so far. The scenes with Ramsay/Reek and then with Roose at Winterfell are the best parts of the later books.

Just finished episode 4. Bit disappointed they've made Stannis appear madly in love with Melisandre (cringed at the 'I want you' scene).

Yep. Stannis is pretty shit here, while in books he was good. They haven't done a good job on him.

If people are already bored with Daenerys now, what will they think in the upcoming seasons? This is actually one of her more active periods of the series

Should I read the books first or watch the tv show? Generally I wouldn't ask and just read the books but the tv show has been very hyped up and I've seen people saying it eclipses the books?

I just finished the third book, they really are setting up season 4 to be amazing with so many incidents to take place.

Probably what you shouldn't do is come in the book thread and possibly spoil what happens.
If I were you though I'd watch the show first and then read the books after, or as you go along. Books help explaining the stuff but for me watching the show is much more exciting and things will be much more shocking.

The books are about a trillion times better, although the TV show is really great. My recommendation is to read the book first.

You should not ever come in here if you are reading the books really. Often the last post will be some casual remark about a key death.

The irony is everytime someone quotes him, he comes back in here.

I am not really reading any posts other than the ones quoting me and I don't plan reading until next month so I doubt even any accidental spoilers will stick in my memory.

So long as he doesn't scroll up it will be very easy to avoid spoilers. The new forum system takes him straight to the post where he's been quoted so unless someone decides to be a penis and spoil something for him there he'll have no left hand.

You can bet when (and I'm spoilering this just in case Akash pops back in)

Ygritte dies, when Jon finds her she won't already be dead like in the books. She'll still be alive with an arrow in her and he'll be like "Ygritte!" and she'll cough and go "You know nothing Jon Snuuuuurghh" before dying.

Just seen the last episode, there was some quality scenes. Tyrion was fantastic as always.

But...where was that magic door! (Just researched it, it's called The Black Gate apparently). I thought in the books Sam took Bran and the group back down that well and said some words, and then this ancient weirwood door spoke back to them and opened up?!

Coldhands told him about it in the books. I'm guessing they're waiting til S4 to introduce him.

Isn't that what happens in the books? I could've sworn that's how she died.

Anyways the season 4 prediction thread on Reddit is awesome:

Oh really? Maybe I just deleted another YKNJS from my head.

it is a truly awful line though. I really wonder what the feck GRRM was thinking adding that, and then adding it repeatedly for two books.

I think so too.

It's a bit annoying that they made Stannis going to the wall so obvious in the show. Was much better when you were reading about the fight when suddenly a big feck-off army comes out of nowhere.

Stannis is a bitch in the show, he's probably the character they've done worst.

You know nothing Solius.

I just checked.

"We'll go back to the cave," he said. "You're not going to die, Ygritte. You're not."
"Oh." Ygritte cupped his cheek with her hand. "You know nothing, Jon Snow," she sighed, dying.

Motherfecker.

Oh dear god, that's how you did the books?

You get used to the old man's voice. Dotrice actually played Pyromancer Hallyne in the show.

For AFFC the narrator was initially switched to John Lee, who is an absolutely fantastic narrator (he did The Pillars of the Earth, World Without End, The Count of Monte Cristo, and a lot of others) and really really good with female voices. But listening to three books from a raspy old man then switching to a man with a deep, tritesticular commanding voice didn't sit well with a lot of listeners, so they recorded ADWD with Dotrice and let him go back and rerecord AFFC so everyone can consistently have raspy old man for all the books.

Normally I'm a staunch proponent of audiobooks being the best form of performance adaptation of a book, since tv and movie adaptations usually fall short of the source material, but they've done such a good job with the show, that I probably can't say the same for ASOIAF.

Oh shit yeah, did not recognize him at all there.

There are an awful lot of actors in the show who make me go "where have I seen them before?".

Thoros Of Myr dresses up like a WAG in the BetVictor adverts.
