Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

My wife and I couldn't watch the episode yesterday. It took her a while to watch again after Ned died in season 1. Like 4 months, when the name Game of Thrones would make her mad.

She knows something is up, especially since Ned, but I was able to make me dumb and not really answering anything. She is on the happy side of things seeing Jamie rehab, Tyrion's moral ground with Sansa, Jon's romance, Olena's zingers... After today, I think she will be spending at least a week without looking me in the eyes, fumming.

I've waited so long for this, it's one of the most heartbreaking, absurd, and wrecking moments I've ever encountered in a book. The reactions, and outcry for this is absolutely brilliant.

I was really worried they wouldn't pull off the Red Wedding and give it the shock factor it merits, but that was absolutely incredible television, and they even went one further by slaughtering Talisa too which was particularly horrendous.

Incredible TV.

I doubt it'll be that long will it?

Some great shit coming up though, in the final episode and next season. Battle on The Wall, Purple Wedding, Tyrion shooting Tywin on the bog.

Maybe not that far in but it's definitely the biggest remaining 'what the feck?' moment in the third book and its usually in episode 9 where they tend to do that stuff, plus it would then set up episode 10 to finish on a high with Tyrion killing Tywin and such.

I can't wait for next season, this whole season, apart from this episode has basically just been a massive build up to next season and I hope they deliver on it.

I suppose at least episode 9 next season will likely be a far more satisfying wedding than this was.

Joffrey's death should happen before. I think that in the ninth episode, Tyrion will kill Tywin.

Between these two events we have a lot of things, the imprisonment of Tyrion, the battle between Snake and Gregor Clegane and some other things in Dorne.

Quite a lot happens between the wedding and that. Tyrion's trial, Oberyn Martell and the mountain etc. I think they'll do Joffrey's wedding in the first half of next season, catch people off guard.

Edit: Or what Revan said, I'm too cool to read.

Very true, I actually forgot that so many things still happen in Kings Landing after the wedding. feck, next season will be so good.

Supposedly they did film the scene where

Robb and Grey Wind become "attached"

so that should be rather funny next week too.

Oh, by the way, to everyone who said that the show wasn't making the incoming slaughter at the wedding as obvious as I thought it was, you were right. So so right.

And thank you to everyone who kept silent the last couple of weeks. The internet exploded last night and is still reeling this morning. We all experienced the Red Wedding at different times throughout the last 13 years, but a very large group of people got to experience the shock for the first time, unspoiled, simultaneously last night. Only time will tell where it stacks up in the list of all time great tv moments, but it has to be somewhere up there with the best of them.

I've seen a number of people say they thought that something bad was coming but I don't think anyone really thought it could be on that magnitude, it was definitely beyond all normal reasoning of assumptions to make and I think most were caught completely off guard, I've seen a lot of people even saying that they thought that he actually would let Robb go at the end which makes it even better!

Reading the RedWeddingTears twitter is probably the only thing hilarious enough to counterbalance the Red Wedding itself.

But man, even though I probably know the event word by word from the book, seeing it on screen is still like getting run over by an 18-wheeler. I think we'll see Balon kick the bucket next week, which, combined with the leech scene, becomes a very very bad omen for a certain Joffrey next season. Hopefully non-reader put 2 and 2 together and stick around when the next season rolls. I personally think the show runners are all kind of genius.

So about this episode, I have two book vs. show questions, can you lot refresh my memory on them?
- In the book, didn't Ygritte shoot an arrow and injure Jon Snow's leg when he was escaping? It didn't happen in the show.
- In the book, before attending the RW, didn't Robb have a conversation/argument with Cat about legitimizing Jon Snow and potentially making him the heir of Winterfell should something happens to him? It didn't happen in the show.

The second one did happen in the books. I think she sent a letter or something.

Just watched it, fecking awesome.

It's brought back my sad Robb feelings from the first time round :(

Yes and yes.

Even though I knew what was going to happen it was still hard to take it all in, in pretty much the same way it was when it happened in the book. Like Silva said in the other thread, felt like I needed to have a smoke afterwards. The fact that it was still kind of stunning for a book reader shows how well they handled it. That's what I like about the TV adaptation, even with all the changes they make it still feels like the books, especially in the key scenes.

I feel like I've been punched in the balls. Watching that hurt just as much as it did when I read it for the first time over a year ago.

That look Grey Wind gives from under the door as he dies :(

Excellent television though, they really nailed it. And the rest of the episode was pretty great too.

As for next season, I reckon Joffrey's death will be around episode 6 or something. There's plenty that happens between his death and Tyrion killing Tywin - his trial, then Ser Gregor and Oberyn's fight (which should be epic), as well as all of Dany's stuff in Meereen. Episode 9 will probably be Tyrion killing Shae and Tywin, then the last episode

We've also got one of the most 'wrong' moments to come next season - Cersei and Jaime's period, incest sex in a church over the body of their dead son born of their incest. I hope they leave that out actually, I found it too sick in the books.

That was rough to watch, despite knowing what was going to happen.

I kind of think it would be in keeping with Martins style for the TV show to take a massive detour from the books though. Really shock all us smarmy "readers" by having the Hound murder Arya or something.

Now the people watching the show know how it felt reading the books. I wanted to throw the book away after reading that. It was gutwrenching stuff.

NO!!!! Just no.

I would actually appreciate a major plot twist in the series. Something to keep us - the readers - on our toes. Probably increase the ratings as well?

That was... violent. Talisha getting stabbed straight in the stomach was a major shock point for me.
Yeah that was shocking - they held back showing the wolf head on his body

great episode

say what you want about the wire or sopranos but they don't do memorable or shocking like Game of Thrones

Me in the middle watching the Sky Atlantic airing yesterday with friends

They literally just killed Robb and Catelyn at the end of the episode - I'm sure a lot of the aftermath (including GreyRobb, and possibly Catelyn's resurrection?) will be shown in the series finale next week.

I've believed the epilogue of Season 3 will be Lady Stoneheart all year....but I'm having some doubts now....think they'd want to leave season 3 at the grimmest point possible, so more likeable characters dying(ygritte obviously leads into all but basically dany as fan favourites being at low points) and no feel good moments....which will all come in season 4(lannisters going down, lady stoneheart).....makes more sense in the long run.

Though I wouldn't mind either way.

I'm far more concerned about what they are going to do once into book 4/5......I already know season 4 will be brilliant
