Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

I think they'll do a good job judging from the preview.

spoilered for people who hate previews

They've got Robb getting excited about what he's going to do after the wedding, which is the same way it was in the book too. Then you've got fighty stuff going on with Jon and Dany so hopefully it won't be too obvious where shit is going to hit the fan.

Yeah what got me about the RW is that Robb had so many plans for after it. He was going to send Cat to stay with Jason Mallister (I think) and with the Freys back he could finally get things going again. A lot of the time when a character dies you can tell, and their story kind of winds up. Robb had so much more to do.

I wish this was on Showtime. They'd have probably given away everything in the preview by now.

I remember when Showtime showed the final scene from the upcoming week's Dexter in the preview once. The fecking retards.

Now we have to wait for two weeks and then bum, Game of Thrones thread went into meltdown.

A liked the last episode very much, the story advanced in four direction at the same time, and there weren't Brann meaningless scenes. I don't know what happened with Emilia Clarce contract but glad it happened.

What do you think about Dario? He didn't looked to me as annoying as in the books.

Isn't there a bit in the later books where Davos is after Rickon so that he can secure an heir to Stannis's services? Maybe Gendry is going to fill that gap? (yes I know its a different kind of heir)

Rickon would be the heir to Winterfell. Gendry has no claim to Winterfell if he's legitimised. Davos wants him so that they can team up with the Manderlys and other houses loyal to the Starks to get back the North from the Boltons.

I've not been a huge fan of the 3rd season. It certainly doesn't translate well enough watching an episode a week apart. Try reading the book for 2 hours one day and then wait a week to read the next 2 hours.

I can barely remember what happened two episodes ago. Too much emphasis on lackluster characters that aren't even in the spotlight in the books IMO this season.

It's the way that people talk. They're all like they're a bit sedated. There's something missing.

Episode 9 will make up for it all, hopefully.

I really want this to work. Have it over quickly - make no reference to it, just get it done. Leave the viewers reeling and don't explain it until the next season, or episode 10 if they really must.

"Daenerys continues to build her army. I can't wait to see her launch an attack on Kings Landing. Between her soldiers she's gaining and the dragons, she should win. Meanwhile, Robb is at some fecking wedding and has done feck all."

 If only he knew!

I'm starting to seriously doubt that Daenerys is ever going to set foot in Westeros. Martin might just troll us all and kill her off with her dragons in a very anti-climactic way.

Don't mind me though, I'm re-reading Feast for Crows and I'm unbelievably bitter about it. I might go off on a rant later.

Nobody has really ended up where they intended to be. It rarely happens. More realistic, though.

Indeed but Feast for Crows is a pisstake.

Entire chapters are dedicated to Brienne. Brienne, who is on a quest for Sansa Stark - while the reader knows perfectly well where she is and that the stupid ugly wench is getting nowhere near her. The chapters don't really advance the plot, do not offer any character development - we barely learn anything new about Brienne or Pod or anyone - and they are simply fecking tedious. There would have been roughly two billion less ponderous ways of reuniting Brienne with Lady Catelyn.

Then there are the Iron Islands chapters, half of which seem to be about Aeron Damphair's mental masturbation to the Drowned God. We get it, he's a changed man but entire pages where he's just thinking about how the sea is awesome are really unnecessary.

I could go on but the point is that the whole book is full of artificial embellishment, it's just fecking padding, nothing else.

Because everyone slated AFFC, I went into it with extremely low expectations. I enjoyed it. Obviously doesn't get near to the heights of Storm if Swords though, and I can totally see why so many people were frustrated going from that to Feast.

I enjoyed AFFC too. None of the books have really disappointed me.

Absolutely no chance about it. Daeneris will have a crucial role in the final battle. She and Jon must lead the humans against the Others.

In case you missed the last one, this is another public service announcement suggesting that we do not reply to the tv thread for the next two weeks.

If anybody else is keeping track, the show is now up to SIX references to the Rains of Castamere in the last two seasons.

  1. Tyrion whistling it in the halls of Kings Landing early in season 2
  2. Bronn singing it with the Lannister soldiers early on in Blackwater
  3. The actual song sung by The National during the end credits of Blackwater
  4. Thoros of Myr singing it early this season
  5. The instrumental version at the end of the last episode
  6. Cersei explaining the meaning to Margaery in this episode

The last one explicitly connects the name of episode 9 to total Lannister victory. It's not blatant enough for the viewers to catch it, but it wouldn't take much to nudge them in that direction. At least the show has done a good job of diverting the rest of the attention away from the wedding. The post-wedding plans in the preview were a nice touch.

I don't think RW will be in the middle of the episode. For shock value it absolutely has to be at the end. I think viewers will see the trap coming, but the absolute magnitude of the destruction will be what devastates them.

Keep this user in meltdown watch. Should be amazing!

This. It was not a tedious or awful. Just wasn't on par with the best book before it.

The final scenes must be about the RW, but the last one has to be exactly how the chapter ends, with cat cutting the kids throat. Would be so graphic, and shocking, to top it all.

Yeah I'll be annoyed if they don't keep that in. Well, it doesn't have to be a halfwit named Jinglebell, but it better be someone.

There's no chance it will work out like that.

Don't you think that Daenerys and Snow would have to play a big part in the final battle. Jon is almost certain to be Azor Ahai, while Danerys very likely is 'the price who has been promised'. It would be pretty pointless if Martin get rid of them after all the investment he made on them.

very likely they won't be formal leaders, but surely they will have a crucial role in the final battle and as I said here before, I don't expect neither of them to survive.

You keep saying final battle. Who says there's going to be one?

Knowing Martin, Dany will slip getting out of the bath and break her neck, and Jon will come back as Janos Slynt.

 Yeah I know, people keep saying that Dany and Jon are going to meet for a final battle and destroy the Others, but Jon could be dead for all we know and Dany might never make it back to Westeros, from what we know of Martin. I mean, he's frustrated and annoyed us enough with the books, what's to stop the habit of a lifetime?

I can bet my house that there will be a final clash somewhere in the final book.
