Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

Somebody sort of ruined it for my gf, but I think she only knows about Catelyn's death.

Even if people figure out something's up, there's no way they could imagine what's coming. It's the suddenness of it all that gets to you in the book. All they need to do is set a calm tone for the audience and then BAM, sucker punch.

I think it's easier to do on TV compared to a book, so they better not mess it up.

Exactly, I think there's a difference between knowing something big will happen and then actually seeing what happens and how it goes down(the head sewn onto direwolf thing for one)

And even with Ned's death, I don't think people have properly grasped the fact that GRRM doesn't really do the "main character" and "good guys that live till the end" thing, so I see Robb's death still being quite shocking.

Exactly. No one will see it coming. In fact I dare say people will find the prospect of an episode dedicated to a wedding fecking boring compared to everything else that is happening around it. Then out of nowhere BAM!

I had to read those pages several times because I just couldn't comprehend what had happened.

It was such an absurd moment in the book that, even after what happened to Ned, I couldn't bring myself to acknowledge shit was really going down. I remember reading and stopping, going back, reading again, like I was misreading. If they keep lowkey like in the book, some weird things like the awful musicians, Grey Wind acting crazy, nonstop crying wife, they having parted bread in such comely manner, nothing gave away what was about to happen.
Total shock!

Exactly, I did the exact same thing. From merriment on one page to they're all fecked on the next blew me away. GRRM is a brilliant bastard of a man. It's like he's just on a huge wind-up.

He makes you scared to invest feelings into characters, as chances are they're going to suffer a pretty abrupt and gruesome death sooner or later.

To be fair, I would be ecstatic finding out Catelyn was dying soon. I can't stand her character. When she died in the books, I was happy to finally be rid of her moaning. And then she came back...

Anyone read 'Tales of Dunk and Egg'? I read it yesterday and it was quite good. Egg is the Mad King's daddy, right?

I'd like to suggest that everyone in here refrain from commenting in the tv thread. This is especially important for the next few weeks for obvious reasons. It's incredibly easy to accidentally confirm a theory or let something slip or set off a chain that leads to someone spoiling something for themselves.

For example, if I were to post the same warning over there, it would spoil the fact that something big is coming next. then reasonable people might deduce that shit's going down at the wedding. Please don't even go over there to talk about how excited you are about the episodes coming up, and for feck's sake, I know how tempting it is, but please don't go posting your favorite youtube clips of people covering "The Rains of Castemere".

Please don't deprive from all of us the pleasure of watching them react to the full shock of what happens next. It's probably going to be the most entertaining thing we book readers will experience until The Winds of Winter is published. So feel free to observe them, but please leave them to experience what we did and enjoy watching them lose their shit.

I'm glad I said this, because damn are they hammering it in on the show. If any non-readers do a rewatch of the whole series, they're going to flip their shit at all the clues they missed.

Red Wedding was spoiled for me on IMDB I think. Had watched the first 2 seasons and wanted to see if anyone had clues for what was up re: Winterfell burning. Eventually saw a spoiler about the RW. Since I was already spoiled I just read the books so unfortunately all the clues were obvious to me i.e Dany's vision and Catelyn worrying about guest rights.

Was Robb's wife in the books pregnant? I can't remember it.

I don't think she is. They've probably added that in to increase the shock and tradegy of the situation.

I'm really worried they might make the RW too obvious. They've not focused much of Robb so far this season, and I worry that if they increase the attention on him like they did in that episode that it might make what's coming in episode 9 really obvious, especially with the 2 week break. But maybe it's just paranoia.

I would have loved it if there was no inkling about the RW whatsoever. Everything goes swimmingly, and then suddenly it all hits the fan. Right now I see clues everywhere, even when I try to discount that I know what to look ofr from reading the books.

Edit: Or maybe Tulisa could replace Val, and their baby could replace Mances. That's the kind of change I could see the TV show making.

Nothing explicit. There have been theories of a Stark heir with Jeyne Westerling but nothing clarified yet and with GRRM having written that episode, it could well be a nod to whats to come in Winds of Winter.

I haven't watched the episode yet. They said she was pregnant?

That's annoying if it's a nod to the books and it's annoying if it isn't.

I may have to watch that episode several times over, what an unbelievable arse Robb's wife, Talisa has.

I know exactly what you mean. Not too sure what to make of it since Talisa's character isn't in the book and if some of the theories of her being a Lannister spy are correct, then they are trying to maximize the non-book readers emotional impact to the red wedding.

Talisa is heading the twins while her equivalent stayed away, but then the Blackfish is also going so no idea what to make of all of it!

My guess is that she's going to die in The Twins. Anyway, Robb's wife doesn't have a big role after the Red Wedding so she won't be missed (except her ass).

There's theories that she's pregnant in the books though, which would give Robb an heir.

It's a little weird watching a TV show about a book you've already read that actually might be spoilering the book you've read. The writers sure take a lot of liberties with stuff that was only ever hinted at in the books. Theon being castrated, Jerne/Talisa being preggers, they're already going down the "Is Margaery a filthy slut?" route.

Still, thought it was a great episode, and might please the non-book readers who thought it was moving slowly, everything is definitely culminating towards the RW now. I expected a great episode anyway, seeing as G.R.R.M wrote it.

Talisa has a fantastic booty.

Oh, and a theory regarding Lady Stonewater.

Lots of rumors floating around that they'll make it Talisa and not Cat, I'd find this a bit ridiculous but I suppose the majority of fans do immensely dislike Cat.

Bringing Cat back was a strange move. I think I'm one of the few who didn't mind her in the books or on TV but just didn't sit comfortable with bringing her back from the dead.

I didn't mind either, but she just featured in an epilogue and did nothing after. Seemed a bit pointless unless she has a bigger part to play later on.

So, no Zombie Cat. Not a bad thing, I hate Cat although she is probably the most tragic person in the show/books

Just watched the episode. Was disappointed that Jaime didn't pocket sand the bear like he did in the books.

Pocket sand!

Enjoyed that episode, think reading the books beforehand makes this season a lot more enjoyable as some of them seem to find it a tad boring and lol at the poor sod who wants dany to have more screen time. If he only knew.

 That makes no sense at all.

Speculation about Talisa

I don't think there's any chance of that child being born. I know there are some theories about Jeyne in the books but they're not very good theories if I remember correctly, hadn't her ma been giving her the abortion tea thing? Talisa will either die with Robb or the theory about her playing him like a fiddle all along will be true.

Blackfish going is interesting though, don't think they'll kill him.

Just had a thought about the popular theory regarding John's parentage, how can it possibly be revealed if all the characters who supposedly know about it are dead? (sorry I don't know if it's been discussed before). Unless there was someone else who knew. They don't have DNA testing...

They could also tell it through one of Bran's visions now that he's a tree or whatever.

One thing annoying me about the TV show is the amount of times they've gotten Ygritte to say "You know nothing Jon Snow". I swear she only says it like twice in the books. I'm actually looking forward to her getting an arrow through the chest.

It happened quite a bit in the books. I remember hearing it a bunch while audiobooking it.

There's a chapter where she must say it about six times. Nearly threw the book off the wall.

Edit: 8! fecking 8! http://www.bestfree-book.com/a_storm_of_swords/26.html

Oh ok. Weird, don't remember it being said that much.

There isn't much left for Jaime to do now in the show is there? The next thing that happens is him returning to King's Landing but that only happens once Joffrey is dead, which I think is happening in Season 4.
