Bestest show on TV they said

Tbh I can forgive little things like this. It's a huge set and easy for someone to misplace a cup and people not to notice. Little things like this happen all the time on tv shows, no biggie imho. The show has far bigger problems than a missed cup left on a table. Also I'm sure pretty much no one saw that live or on first watch. Lord knows I didn't.

Basic quality control man.

I watched a documentary about the making of Friends not long ago. They had people in the editing room going through every frame, every scene adjusting the lighting, camera angle, close up etc... And that was a 20+ episodes a season show. Is it that hard to dedicate the same level of effort for the final 6 episodes of the currently most popular show on the planet?

You'd think it would be picked up, but it could be something as silly as Emilia having a last second drink and leaving the cup down before filming. It should be caught in editing and masked out or something but I can live with those mistakes if the rest was better quality. In fairness to Friends it was a modern show so a coffee cup lying around would have fit right in.

I think we should also appreciate the fact that Cersei looks like a certified genius compared to our protagonist. The blind cavalry charge and the ‘being ambushed when you have the best scouting tool ever at your disposal’ grants Dany the status of worst military commander ever, cinematically.

100%. And she's probably going to attack the city before Jon and co. get there too. Seems Varys is the only "clever" man/woman with an IQ above 10.

This has reached Lost level of poor writing. Well, maybe not, but it is very bad writing.

It seems obvious at this stage that Jon is going to kill Daenerys to save the realm. And destroying Jaime's character after him achieving redemption is the last thing the show needed.

I don't believe they have, they've just made him go back for Cersei and the baby and will likely go full redemption killing her as she burns KL after finding out she's lost it.

Or something equally as dull.

Jaime killing Cersei would be very in tact with his redemption. I am just afraid that instead they will do something stupid, and make Jaime go back to her.

I still like the show but I hate the writing in this and the last season. It is Battlestar Galactica all over again in that aspect.

Btw, what is Qyburn's end goal? Does he want power for the sake of having power? Does it even matter at this stage?

He's Beastman to Cersei's Skeletor.

I dunno why you'd even look for character motivation, it could change to something else in the next episode.

Member when Cersei was the biggest buffoon on the show, creating two new issues for every one she thought she had solved?

The only way to survive on this show is too have the IQ of a toothbrush.
And if you are a good battle commander prepare to get pointlessly murdered after some D&D character assassination so idiots can make stupid decision and survive thanks to mighty plot armor.
Nothing will ever top Ramsey Bolton pretty much naked beating a bunch of armored iron born for stupidity but it's getting closer.

I dunno the Sandsnake/Bronn exchange was pretty spectacularly stupid. It's still top of the list for me. I believe the exchange was along the lines of:

"I poisoned you earlier, but I'm not giving you the antidote unless you tell me I've got nice tits. Here look at my tits. Ignore my sisters staring. Just look at these bad boys! Aren't they great? Wanna bang?"

I'd completely wiped that from my memory.
Imagine if George does finish the books and puts all this stuff is in it. My will we look foolish.

Is his loyalty to Cersei ever explained in the books? I know there is a theory that he’s actually working on behalf of the Martells’ larger plot to put Myrcella on the throne, but that seems to be based on very little evidence.

In any case I’d assume explaining Qyburn’s motivations at this late stage in the show will not be a top priority.

I thought Qyburn always wanted to work in dodgy areas, which is why the Citadel banned him. So when he has a chance to save Jaime and get in with their family, he realises that's the way to get everything he wants. And now he does, with Zombie Mountain his crowning achievement.

I don't think he really needs much more motivation than that. To be able to experiment on whatever he wants without fear of money or laws.

Do people think that the show is still on track with regards to a very broad idea of how Martin planned to have things pan out? As in, army of the dead gets defeated at Winterfell as an in between highlight before a big show out between allied north and south forces and Danaerys/Jon/Sansa tensions when they figure out the truth with Danaerys slowly losing it?

Like everyone in here I have been quite frustrated with the drop in quality since about S5 but I'm also massively disappointed with the overall development. Now I'm starting to wonder if that's because the show has been doing a poor job of depictioning it due to their rushing and illegogical plot shortcuts (Still can't believe that they used Euron's fleet again like that) or if I generally had to high expectations (like deeper WW motivations) about the whole thing.

It's in tact with his arc. And this time he has accepted that everytime he's been a cnut it has been because of Cersei. She brings out the cnut in him, whereas Brienne helped him lean more towards being good guy Jaime. That's been their whole arc, and previously as well Jaime left for Cersei after spending time with Brienne as he couldn't resist the urge of being with Cersei and ending up doing vile shit for her. Throwing Bran, killing cousin, fecking her next to Joffs dead body - they've basically shown whenever he's in her 'control' he ends up doing things he regrets.

Now, he realizes that knowing how low Cersei has fallen, and will finally eliminate that side of his life for good likely coupled with Cersei trying to explode the city and Jaime saving the day as well as getting rid of his demon. He then returns to Brienne and lives his life as one of the most honorable men in the world as this time people see his heroics.

Maybe he saves it from mad Dany or mad Cersei, but his arc will end with everyone finally looking at him not as a kingslayer but a hero and his page in the kingsguards book will be complete.

Isn't there a Game of Thrones TV show thread?

It's a bit jarring to see all that discussion here. When I saw the three new pages I almost dared to hope that some book-related news came out.

I think things will be a bit more complex in the book. I don't think the WW/Others will be defeated in the first great battle against the human alliance. Everything won't feel so forced.

Many people are banned from GoT thread.

I’m not sure they’d even win, for all we know in Martin’s vision, A Dream for Spring would end bleakly, with a slight ray of hope, like the typical small green bud in an apocalyptic nuclear wasteland.

The (non-)existence of the Night King aside, there's also the matter of Aegon (not Jon) who, if I recall correctly has landed back into Westeros along with Connington and some merc company at the end of DWD. Which could well push for a highly different version of events.

I also felt that should the Others break through the Wall, they would march down at least as far as the Trident. When they start posing a threat to King's Landing, that's when Westeros will really sit and pay attention to he scale of the problem. Instead of being seen just as a northern fairy tale.

Stannis is still alive in the books isn't he? I would make use of him again.

I'm not even sure they are hitting the same plot points any more. A lot of stuff seems to be for shock value or just to get it over with.

When you look at the amount of things in play that the show got rid of or ignored then it has to play out vastly different. Jon is going to pay a heavy price if he comes back from the dead. Sansa I doubt will end up in any power. Arya I don't think will be a super ninja. Tommen is alive and Bran I can't see coming south again. Then there's Stannis, Dorne, FAegon, The Vale, Val, Mance and a lot of other stuff being completely different.

I think they'll hit similar beats but in a very different way. In the books Aegon will take KL, and Jon Con and co will murder Tommen. Euron will wreck havoc in the Reach, greyscale will spread in the capital, and then Cersei will do something akin to her sept antics and team up with Euron. KL will turn seriously bleak as a result.

Daenerys will go north once she hears of the threat of the Others, like in the show. Jon will come back, but Stannis will win the battle of Winterfell. Roose dies, Ramsay flees. Jon ends up meeting Ramsay at the Dreadfort, kills him, then Stannis burns Shireen. People turn on Stannis, eventually Jon/Daenerys/Tyrion and co unite. Once the Others are dealt with in a much more prolonged battle, Jon's claim to the throne will gradually drive Daenerys to madness. Only it'll all make much more sense when drawn out. If it ever gets written.

I think we might see Euron or Victarion actually take out a dragon too. Just not with a sniper crossbow and an invisible fleet. Probably using dragonbinder. Could end up a three way battle of dragons if Dany has Drogon and then the other two end up with the Others and Greyjoys. Although I'm not sure the Others will actually get one.

I can see Val and Melisandre burning Shireen behind Stannis' back. I just can't see him doing that. I also think The Others might actually win, wiping everyone out as they can't bring themselves to unite against them.

I'm fairly sure GRRM confirmed to D&D that Stannis burns Shireen. Was one of the big shock moments they referred to.

No way the Others win overall: we've been told the ending would be bittersweet, whereas that's just flat-out depressing.

I read that, but I'm not sure if they confirmed the burning or if Stannis burns her. I accept she's getting burned either way.

You could still get bittersweetness from an Others win. We've seen what the current war is doing to the kingdom with all the sackings, rapings and general madness going on around the realm. Getting dragons, Iron Born fleets, FAegon and Dorne involved could make it far, far worse for the general population. The Others sweep in, take out most of the armies and big players leaving ordinary people to get on with their lives. There's no indication in the books they are just out to kill everyone, they might have a goal they can achieve then head on home. I've dedicated myself to the thought that if Stannis doesn't get the throne then no one should.

Except maybe Arrianne and her boobs of power.

How will ordinary people get on with their lives when Others win? Everyone will be an 'Other' man ffs..

If you accept that the Others are First Men turned by CotF to reclaim their lands, then maybe they will stop at the Neck, since there are no weirwoods in the South (except for some in the Riverlands).

I'm not exactly satisfied with that logic but even if you extend that, it's a stretch to link it to the presence of weirwoods. Children just didn't exist in the the North, they seem to have occupied all of Westeros.

Only the dead and they don't even raise all of those. It's seemingly more complicated in the books than just them coming to kill everyone.

Others are not just grave robbers with a magic touch man, the freefolk on the other side of the wall want to come to this side because of the threat of Others, not because of dead coming to life. Anyway, let's agree to disagree
