Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

Why Asshai? There's nothing there except black buildings, sorcerers and malformed fishes

Ah it has that air of mystery about it I suppose, can see Martin just leaving it at that though.

I think Yi Ti, Asshai and Valyria will be explored in spin off contents, if the fat feck lives that long.

As for the Ice and Fire universe, they have plenty of material and two other writers who can contribute to the spin offs in addition to Martin. Most of the groundwork is already laid in the A World of Ice and Fire. Valyria would be the most interesting I'd bet.

I think the leak happened because of Star India distributors and not related to HBO hacking. Definitely looks like a rumor, but seems like screen play materials are out for episode 5. Never know what happens though.

Any hint of a spoiler from the TV show will result in a 3 point warning and a thread ban.

How olds this? Whatever, it's still 10/10.

Listen guys, you've got your show thread. This is the book thread and every episode is a spoiler for book readers. I understand the spoiler policy of random spoilers in other threads, but there is a lot of history between book and show threads. Book readers have been banned in the show thread too. Why don't you just stick to the book threads? We've got a reasonable spoiler policy in the thread and it's working. People come into the thread knowing there will be details from books that is not exposed in the show and we've generally had no trouble with spoilers. Why spoil something that's working?

I haven't got a show thread.....and never got a reason as to why it was taken from me ;'( Just you know, people love POWER.

Really liked this theory on the Jon, fArya, Arya, and Justin Massey situation and how things would go down at the Wall.

Also, with news coming in that GRRM met with his publishers in NYC, we may get some update on the next book. Most likely its the Fire & Blood book he is working on (which would suggest his earlier blog post regarding Valyria) but i am hoping its Winds of Winter.

I think it was about the leaked TV episode, not for others. Otherwise the entire thread is a massive spoiler.

Worth reading the books after watching the series? Ordered the box set using a voucher haha

He said that there will be a new book next year, but he doesn't know which one. In addition, he said that it is possible that there will be two books next year.

If I am not mistaken, part I of Fire and Blood is more or less done.

Of course. Much more depth, political intrigue and better writing. Be warned though, you might be in a long wait considering that the last book has been released in 2011 and we don't know when the next two books will be released.

For what is worth, the fifth book ends with the scene the fifth season ended.

Very interesting and plausible.

Halfway through my second read of ADWD now. Finding this and AFFC a lot more interesting this time round, obviously a lot less spectacular, edge-of-your-seat moments than ASOS but there are some truly epic moments and the level of detail, which was a bit off-putting in the first read, is really shining through for me this time. Definitely helps I think that I've read a lot of the theories that have sprung up since 2011.

Yes,people saw leaked episodes and some posted there and got banned for it. There were no complaints here even though there were posts. Just saying there's no need of a 'hey hum hur dur ban incoming' as posters are comfortable in this thread. Honestly, if book readers are not welcome there, then show watchers shouldn't be here, but we don't cry for a ban every time. It's working.

Really liked the way how he tied it to an event that will make Arya come back to her old self comparable to the mummers show in the TV show. Very plausible.

Don't want to sound to macabre but what happens if Martin dies before finishing his story?

That would fecking frustrating.

Also, kind of fecking weird that I don't want him to die until he's all done. Like I mean it would be terrible and all but feck??? Like reading 70% of best story ever for only it being stopped suddenly.

It's quite hard to hold out when you stand before 3 giant fire breathing lizards.

I hope we get to see him claim a dragon. The process is only mentioned in expanded universe, Dany claiming Drogon was a bit cheap.

It seems Jon is back in Winterfell next episode. Jon and Arya reunion will be epic. Hopefully it isn't as flat as Bran Sansa, or Arya Sansa reunions

Not looking forward to that. My mind strays to dark places knowing what Martin originally intended. :nervous:
That is not going to happen though. It was what Martin intended before he started writing but everything has changed since then.

Don't worry, he has considered that possibility himself and has co-authors who are aware of the plot and anything he might want to have published after he's gone.

Elio and Linda of Westeros.org are long time friends of Martin and co-authored his TWOIAF, but last interviewed about it Martin still insisted on finishing the series himself and ruled out the possibility of a Sanderson style continuation.

So pray to the gods old and new our Chubby Overlord stays healthy.

So where do you guys think the battle happened? Randyll Tarly said that the last gold has crossed the gates of Kings Landing (must have got a rider with the news) and they were supposed to reach KL by nightfall. Assuming they took the Roseroad to go from Highgarden to Kings Landing and considering Dany would need ships to transport Dothraki (assuming a part of fleet which Dothraki used to travel from Essos is nearby), I'm guessing the battle may have taken place somewhere in the vicinity of red box I used here -

Hoping those wagons burnt by Drogon don't contain a lot of the food. Randyll and Dickon did say that they need to collect more food from the Reach and I hope Dany controls the Reach now with grain and food in her hands. She needs it to feed her army and also stop it going to KL

The amount of time it takes for Lannister army to travel back from the war and the amount of time needed for Dothraki to come on the ships (after Tyrion and Varys get to know of the defeat) would probably match.

Also, why does Dany keep pestering about Jon bending the knee? I thought she would understand the threat of Others after seeing the old runes of Children of the Forest. As of now, Jon only has wildlings (whom he's sent to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea to guard against White Walkers) and the armies of the North and Vale, who are all stationed in Winterfell, thousand leagues away.

Even if Jon promises Northern armies to help her in return for her armies (Dothraki, Unsullied and maybe Dorne - whatever is left of these armies after her war with Cersei), Jon won't be able to provide much help to her - a) Either because the Northern Houses will rebel (especially with three Starks in Winterfell who the houses would all feel comfortable with) or b) because the distance is too great for the armies to travel to KL or c) because they're preparing for a war with Others whose threat Jon said is imminent. Think what the armies would do (also Sansa) if they come to know Jon bent the knee. I was hoping Jon would tell her that it wasn't his pride stopping him to bend the knee but that once he bends the knee, it is pointless to expect all his army to suddenly support her. Somebody has to explain this to me as I can't understand : )

Slightly irritating to see Bronn still survive but I guess they have to keep him as he's a fan favorite and other major characters are all getting wiped out. Guess my frustration comes from never having any special warmth to him and maybe still a hangover of Lady Olenna's loss.

Even though it was only 50 mins, they cut the episode at the right moment. My heart was still racing when the titles came up and it would have lessened my tension if they showed what happened to Jaime afterwards. Maybe Dany will imprison him, what with Lannister army devastated and completely shattered and with Dany and Drogon standing next to the lake where he drowned. Time for Tyrion to repay the favour and release him (and at least THIS time Jaime will start moving away from Cersei).

What will Jon do with all that Obsidian and how will he take it to the North?
