Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

Do we know if the books and GOT will follow completely different arcs from here on in? If so, I'd rather wait for the next book before watching the new season.

It could be a long wait. At the end I have a feeling that the books and the show will end up at the same general place, but how they get there and who is involved and who is left standing might be anywhere from slightly different to very different.

I've honestly forgotten everything, both show-lore and book. It feels like forever since I've read-up on anything GOT-related. Not really that hyped for the new season this weekend.

Oh you should get hyped. I just finished a rewatch from seasons 3-6 and I'm pumped!

Really cannot understand the critics for this show. Bar the fifth season which was quite bad, it has been a top notch TV show, and the finale of the sixth season is one of the best episodes I have ever seen in a TV show. I am super excited.

About show-book connections, I think that they will go into the same direction and things will end the same, with some minor differences. So yep, I think that Aegon is dragon's food (and likely we won't ever learn if he was a real Targ or not), Shireen will get burned, Stannis and Rickon will die and Hodor comes from Hold the Door. Some details might change like maybe Mel will burn Shireen without Stannis giving her permission, and probably Jon won't be as fool in the battle, but things in the books will go the same.

Predictions about the new season:

Big deaths: Cersei (from Jaime), Littlefinger (from Sansa), Jaime (sacrifice/someone random), Tormund (from Whitewalkers), one of the dragons (from Whitewalkers, also resurrected).
Big events: The burning of Kingslanding, the fall of the wall.
Wars: Danny + Martells + Jon vs Lannisters + Euron
Final event: The Others invading Westeros, Westeros pretty much united under Danny and Jon.

I hope Jaime survives the whole thing, really. I'm still waiting on that proper redemption arc.

The only thing I am sure of is the Wall coming down near the end of the Season. Ideally, I'd have liked to binge the whole season but I don't think I have the self control to not watch the episode on Monday or avoid all media related to GOT till end of August.

Come to think of it that's a hell of a lot of time to think you can avoid spoilers and I have no idea how Akash does it.

Yeah i think that'll happen too, sucks for Jaime

You're cool then, just speculation, the show is ahead of the books now anyway with most of the storylines.

A theory:

I Think The Internet Has Cracked the Code for the Release Date of George R.R. Martin's The Winds of Winter
(Update: Since publishing, it’s become clear that I am not the first to come up with this theory—not even close. It was introduced long before I wrote this post on the ASOIAF subreddit, and I was searching in the wrong places. Credit to user REPTARcommaBRO for apparently being the first. As such, the title has been changed from “I Think I’ve Cracked the Code” to “I Think the Internet has Cracked the Code.” Otherwise, the text has remained in original form.)

https://www.pastemagazine.com/artic...ve-cracked-the-code-for-the-release-date.html

If you’re an unapologetic A Song of Ice and Fire obsessive like me, chances are that you’ve noticed a recent change in tone from George R.R. Martin in his “Not a Blog.” Vanity Fair recently speculated that the wait for The Winds of Winter, the sixth novel in the series, may be close to over. The evidence was scant, as they admitted, and essentially came down to a quote by Liam Cunningham promising “something special” for this Sunday’s premiere of Game of Thrones’ sixth season, and this:

The final piece of hopeful evidence comes in the form of a recent blog post from Martin himself. Two days ago, Martin started one of his infamous LiveJournal entries with the following line: “I’ve been working so much of late that I have fallen way behind in my reading (sob) and my filmgoing.” The location was his home in Santa Fe, and the mood on the post? “Pleased.” In the words of Twitter and Redditor BryndenBFish, who has made a name for himself tracking the progress of Martin’s novels: “Guys, dare I ask it, but is the long night almost over?”

Then something a little strange happened. In his latest blog entry, published Wednesday, Martin included just one line of text above an illustration of Valyria, the ancient city of ASOIAF lore that succumbed to a mysterious and cataclysmic “doom.” Martin wrote:

Alas, alas, that great city Valyria, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

His “mood” below the entry was listed as “enigmatic,” which is worth noting—if anything, Martin has taken pains to avoid mystery in his recent blogging career, since any vague pronouncement is in danger of being treated as a Winds of Winter hint by his rabid fans. To purposefully post something obscure like this, Martin—my opinion only—must be planning something big. Notably, the post came with a single tag: “song of ice and fire.” He also disabled comments.

It didn’t take long for the ASOIAF subreddit to begin wondering if this was tantamount to an announcement of a publication date.

In the analysis that followed, it was discovered that Martin’s quote about Valyria was adapted from a biblical quote about ancient Babylon:

Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

Now, let’s get to the theory: That passage comes from the Book of Revelation, Chapter 18, Verse 10. In shorter notation, that’s Revelation 18:10.

Martin also uses the specific language from the King James version of the bible, and the King James in question was, of course, an English monarch.

So: Revelation 18:10.

My theory is ludicrously simple, and I’m a little shocked that nobody (as far as I can tell) has scooped me in the past three days: Martin’s “revelation” is that The Winds of Winter will be published on 18/10, which is British notation for Oct. 18.

In the past, Martin has referenced the fact that his publishers could get his book out within three months if they were in a rush. As it happens, Oct. 18 is just over three months from the present, and if Martin had previously turned in his manuscript, it makes sense that a longer, more usual publication schedule was in place. It would also make sense that the date was recently set in stone—it would make quite the announcement for tonight’s premiere.

The only slightly puzzling part is that most books are published on a Tuesday, and Oct. 18 is a Wednesday in 2017. But the Tuesday rule is not hard and fast, and by all other measures, the date makes perfect sense.

Probably he has just finished a chapter about Valyria. At this stage, I don't even want to believe anymore that this book is ever going to be finished. And the worst thing is that it isn't even the final book.

I thought it was a very good episode that sets the events. They couldn't have missed more with Euron's character though. He was terrifying in the books, but is junk another punk here.

Arya was MVP.

Yeah add Euron to the list of characters the shows has managed to feck up.

What is his gift though? Dragonbinder or Tyrion?

No mention of the horn in the show so far. Probably just gonna try and steal a dragon for Cersei.

They've really messed it up, the whole thing with Euron in the books was him bringing back the 'old way' to the Iron Islanders wasn't it? Including always paying the Iron Price. The idea that he'd go to Cersei in this manner is ridiculous. But anyway...

What the feck was Euron wearing? Seemed completely out of place in Westeros
He is out of place in the show. Also, why on Earth was Daenerys wearing heels while she was in a boat? I know that looks matter and she is shortish but boats and Dragonstone don't look the best places to wear heels.

Also, Ed Sheeran.

Man, that series is so devoid of story it just hurts. Get that book out already, you stalling old prick!!1

I actually didn't mind Sheeran. He was just another soldier, who could have been played by any actor.

Was it Slughorn from Harry Potter who was dissecting the body with Sam? If so now its twice that he has been asked about books in the restricted section

Also, the Wall is so coming down this season. Slughorn also mentioned it that the Wall protected them last time so they don't need to worry about it.

The fall of wall will definitely be the main event of this season and the next book. The epilogue of it.
The Sand Snakes maybe considering Ellaria poisoned Cersei's only daughter.
You're most likely right. So, I guess Euron defeats Dorne and sends the Sand Snakes to Cersei who executes them.

Bts, anyone knows what happened with Summer? Did he die in the Hold the Door Episode or what?
Nah there was just a bit of a rush when all of the wights saw the cute dire wolf.

Totally forgot about that. Probably because Hodor's death was one of the highlights (and one of the best piece of writing in the entire genre) of the show so far.

Interestingly, people had discovered it a few years ago.

Had not thought about that one. Taking Dorne out of the game would be a good move for the Lannister's especially if they are going to attack the old cnut first. Dorne could conceivably be an ally to the Tyrell's, since they both dislike the Lannister's a great deal. So yeah the Sand Snakes would make a nice gift. I had assumed it would be some action against Dany but that Sand Snakes make sense also.

Van Der Star's post on Euron's logic is hilarious. They have really done a Stannis with that character.

There is no way that Martell's and Tyrell's would ally, they hate each other. I think that in the show Jaime will easily defeat both of those houses. In the books it will likely be different and Dorne will declare for Aegon with Tyrells initially joining Lannisters.
