Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

welcome to Club Waiting.

You did Wheel of Time in real time, right? It must have been frustrating too.

At the moment, I am reading quite a few sagas that won't finish in a long time.

ASOIAF - likely never
Kingkiller - probably never
Gentlemen Bastards - probably around 2030
Stormlight Archive - around 2035-2040

It is the worst genre to read if you wan closure.

Sanderson's Cosmere saga which probably ends with Dragonsteel series will probably get done by 2060 as he has no set timeliness when he will write that series :(

It's not like it's the last book of the series so it doesn't really matter if he releases it before season 7 or 8 or afterwards. ADOS won't be out before 202x and that's only IF he ever finishes it.

I also don't see it as too much of a problem. I think once we have both Winds and season 7 we'll see that books and show don't have a lot in common anymore apart from some characters names.

As fast as he is, he won't be able to finish the Cosmere saga, unless he hires other people to write it, with him leading them.

I think that it is supposed to end with Mistoborn 4 though, which will happen after Dragonsteel. So, he will have to write at least another 7 Stormlight books, another 7 Mistborn books, another 2 Elantris books, another 1 Warhammer book, 7 Dragonsteel books and a new trilogy about a kid who realizes he is the Dark One. So there are here around 27 books only in Cosmere (not counting new books which will unexpectedly happen like Mistborn 2, Mistborn Secret History or the new collection of novellas that he just published), in addition to the other books he writes, with the big ones (Stormlight) needing around 3 years for a book.

Sadly, not going to happen.

Regardless, better to discuss it in Fantasy Reads thread.

No, not that bad for me thankfully.
I started reading WOT late, Jordan had already published The Path of Daggers. So the wait wasn't that long, compared to other series.

Have you lot seen the released poster? Didn't really subscribe to that theory but now it all sort of might be making some sort of sense...

Edit; Or it might not.

Back in Oct 16 seems quite old tbh.

You have to understand its not a poster, but artwork. It's basically part of the production process. All movies do that, you have illustrators sketching scenes and shots beforehand. That is where this is from.

we are talking about the dragon pit artwork right? With Tyrion and (likely) Jon?

Uhm yeah that's useless :D Do you want the other one?

You spoiled it already . Tbf though the foreshadowing has always been strong with him. Just wondering if GRRM would do a twist with his parentage (probably not, as it would totally undermine his character).

I thought we already had a convo about ASOIF? How many do we need? Just post in the thread and spoiler the stuff that are spoilers.

It's a fanmade poster. Although I have a feeling there will have been some show re-writes after that major leak.

Either discuss it in your convo or post the thing here. This is annoying.

PM a link to the poster, tried google and finding a wide mix of posters, most of them being fan art going back a few months. Even tried the official HBO site and found nothing there. But I am feeling a bit ill today, so could be user error.

I'm almost certain it's a spoiler for the show as I expect the leaks to be true but not so sure about it being a spoiler for the books..

I personally think it's a convenient way of getting to the same end goal. Joramums horn is more likely in the books.

Do we think that the books and the show won't converge in the end? Likely the details will change but all the big events will be quite the same.

Basically, yeah.

I expect the show and books to be extremely different. Far more than just details. I actually don't even consider the show a spoiler.

I can see where the general ending is the same but the details of how the story gets there and with who could end up being quite different. Especially given some characters who are not included in the show, the seem to be building towards playing important roles in the book.
