Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

Fantastic episode.

Summer :( My second favorite direwolf getting chopped.

Hodor just managed to become an even more tragic character than he was :(:(:( I hate Bran!

Bran is going to be Bran the builder, right? Or at least heavily influence him.

Holy feck, we now know how the Others will pass the wall. They just have to let Bran pass the wall, and then voila, the wall cannot stop them anymore.

Great episode, I really liked the theater and the ending was brilliant. A few points:
- Kingsmoot was crap, Euron is quite boring in the show I think. I agree with the others that they've butchered his storyline compared to the books. He's been gone for ages, comes back, admits that he killed Balon, says that he will build a bigger fleet and everyone is like "Yeaaah"? Tbf, I never liked the Ironborn in the books, they come across as dumb megalomaniac people so maybe that scene wasn't too unrealistic.
- Brienne going to Riverrun could very well mean that we'll finally get Lady Stoneheart although I think the timing will be horrible and I'm pretty sure the show (only) watchers will hate it. We've just had a major character being resurrected, Catelyn Stark now coming back to life as well will mean that everyone is going to expect a red priest resurrecting people left and right.
- Can someone explain me what visions of the past Bran is capable of having now? He had to be lead by the Raven before can he look into anything he wants to now? Because we'll have to see tower of joy soon but him checking out pieces of the past whenever he wants seems quite overpowered and bad for the story for me.

Bllodraven uploaded all his information into Bran, so I think that Bran now will know everything that BR did.

He's quite good in the books. Arguably the most evil character in the entire saga.

Have I forgotten something? He was cruel to Victarion and he kills off the competition, but that's tame compared to Ramsay for example.

Why do so many have a problem with the time travel stuff? It was relatively well explained in the books.

He rapes Victarion's wife, is implied to have abused Aeron as a child (the creaking door hinge), cuts out people's tongues, regularly rapes, and when he takes an island in the Reach, forces the Lord's wife/daughters to serve everyone naked, with many of them being raped. He's incredibly evil, and probably being built up as the main human villain for the remainder of the series I think.

Oh right. Really have forgotten a few things.

Yeah, parts of AFFC are quite forgettable to be fair. I can see him being potentially massive in the next two books though with the Ironborn/Targaryen plot.

I am liking the time travel (usually hate it). It is just a closed loop, and Bran won't be able to change the past. Instead, he will just setup the events that lead to the story (Hodor, Mad King, possibly the Wall etc).

On thin ice here. Time travel can go off the rails very quickly.

Also wonder if GRM knew what Hodor was short for from the beginning or he just reversed engineered it when he thought it kind of sounds like "hold the door".

I'd say he almost certainly knew from the beginning.
I think the first line of one of Catelyn's chapters in book 1 was 'her heart had turned to stone' or something to that effect. It was the chapter after she kidnapped Tyrion.
He set that up 4 books or so in advance and hinted at it a few times (or at least it seemed that way knowing where she ends up and what happens to her).

I'd say he knew the beginning and end of every character when he started but the middle was very muddled.
Really doesn't come off that hes pulling it out of his ass as he goes along. Theres a lot of foreshadowing.

The Ironborn chapters were mostly the ones I was the least interested in until the Kingsmoot, when Euron basically introduced the dragon horn. I always felt Dany needed a different kind of threat, something that would make her feel powerless and make her storyline less predictable. Euron and his horn make things more interesting. Somehow I was still under the impression that looking through Victarion's eyes made Euron appear worse than he is.

Hopefully not too much.

@bucky Yep, I agree. Daenerys has a warped view against many of the Seven Kingdoms houses, and Euron being able to say he actively opposes the Starks/Baratheons, fights for a house that has rebelled against them and has continued to do so, will surely put him in good stead.

I think there's going to be a lot more to him, though. Personally, think Crow's Eye nickname and general weird vibe will come from a connection with Bloodraven. Part of me thinks that Euron was a pupil of his, but was seduced by the Others/their leader, and is now actively working against the humans, and more importantly, against fire...and by extension, Daenerys and her dragons. I think he's going to try and kill them/Daenerys after he's got her by his side.

That's an interesting theory. The part about him being a warg and/or a pupil in particular. I don't think he's working with the Night's King though. IMO he or Victarion will succeed in bringing a dragon under his control, which will end up being killed by the other two.

Is there an actual convo where you can discuss a spoiler for next week's episode?

Ah okay, thanks.

Brewlio's Convo

Welcome. It's about time we has something like this, all them fecking spoilers have out me off remotely discussing anything in them Nazi modded threads. The so-called 'purists' are killing it for everyone imo.

This is ALMOST an anything goes convo. Feel free to openly discuss theories, storylines, predictions etc to your hearts content. But if you have any ITK shizzle that hasn't gone down yet please have a bit of sense and spoiler it (adding a title to the spider that won't give the game away). Same goes for Internet articles, feel free to post them but spoiler them. Chances are some of us will want to read them, but not everyone will.

This convo is about open discussion, not fecking upcoming episodes/storylines for everybody.

Nothing from this convo should be making its way into either the TV or book threads in the Entertainment forum (or I'll keeeeeeeeeeeel ya!)

But this ain't a mega serious convo, let's have a bit of fun asking the way. We need tits! But please spoiler them as well lads as some of yers will be at work (office environments etc)

Valor Tardghulis - I'm sure that phrase is self explanatory

Tag him in a post if you want to be join that convo.

Again, thanks. Really just wanted to share that one spoiler for the next episode and what people think, but that's not wanted there either so I'll just wait a week.

@brewlio add me up please.

One thing I don't get, or am possibly not remembering correctly.

When Bran & crew went into the cave at the end of season four, the wights fell apart when they tried chasing them in, but this time they had no problem running in? Why so?

They suggested it was because the Night King touched Bran in his vision, because... reasons.

I thought that just meant he knew where he was, though?

Meh, seems like bullshit.
No, they mentioned that Bran having the WW mark brings down the cave magic and now they can get in. It went something like that:

Bloodraven: He touched you, now he knows who you are, he's coming for you.
Bran: But he can't get in, surely?
Bloodraven: You have the mark, so now he can, you little shit.

It could be the same magic the Wall has (since they were both put up by the forest kids), so my thinking is - now the WW can just waltz in past that, or at least once Brann is past it. Or maybe it means Brann won't be able to pass because the Wall's AI sees him as a WW because of the mark. I don't know how that would matter though, it's not like he has any business down south.

Aye, they mentioned that the NK touching him stopped the magic from working. Fair enough really, it is hard to poke holes in how magic works...

Don't really get the overprotectiveness of Euron on this thread, he is a shite character based purely on the TV adaptation. Poorly acted, comes across like a bad heel on WWE. Sure that in the books he is very interesting but based purely on the TV.. no - not so far.

The Iron islands have been a disappointment throughout the entire series to be honest.. basically a prolonged dreary Dorne.

Hoping things liven up now that their is the Dany angle to it.

Another thing that bothers me about the show's kingsmoot on the Iron Islands. Euron gets chosen as king yet Yara and Theon manage to make off with nearly their entire fleet. You can't just steal ships, you'd need the support of each ship's crew and captain. Which implicates that the vast majority of the naval force sides with Yara and Theon. But if that was the case, surely Yara would have been chosen as queen.

The show portrayed Euron's corronation as some sort of coup by a select group of followers. Who are now going to build a thousand ships, because why the feck not?

Yeah, it was done very fast and not convincingly. But then, in order to make it right, they should have started this arch in the previous season. I am glad that they are doing it fast, otherwise it would have been like Arya's and Daenerys' story.

Did any children of the forest survive (or were there any more in other caves?) as perhaps heading south to the ancient wierwood trees might make sense to set up his (non) evil lair and start warging into giants / dragons and getting the children of the forrest to do some ancient magic stuff to fight the walkers?

Holy feck! Did anyone know that there is essentially an another wall in Essos, which was build to defend against the Demons? And that they have the equivalent of the Nights Watch, in addition to having had the hero on the Long Night.

What if Daenerys never comes to Westeros, but she will lead humans in Essos, while Jon will do the same in Westeros. They are both the prince who was promised, Azar Ahai etc.

There are so many things I have completely missed despite that I've read books twice.
