Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

The TV thread is hilarious. They should create four different threads within a new subforum

1. Everything goes. All book, web, and tv theory allowed.

2. Books only. Discussion and speculation allowed only on the books. No mention of the tv show.

3. A thread for the show viewers where you can discuss all trailers, future episode clips, casting news, along with theories based on the tv show on the web.

4. For TV show viewers. No theories from the internet allowed. Do not discuss trailers and future episode clips, or casting news.

I am not serious. People who cant read the books despite liking the tv show so much are idiots.

I've been on a lot of Game Of Thrones forums and threads throughout the internet but Redcafe's one is by far the most hilarious when it comes to not understanding spoiler rules.

Every fecking day someone in there drops a clanger!

Yeah it's pathetic, people are so precious

This seems like a much more welcoming place ...

I don't want to trall back but what's the consensus here with The tv show deviating from What happened to Mance raider ? I loved his character in books and show

Is the sole purpose of the TV thread just for the drama queens to say 'great episode' or 'shit episode'? As everything else has to be put in spoiler tags

I have never actually read the books, I tried reading the first one but it was a bit too similar to the show so I stopped. Is it worth reading on? I hear that there are loads of characters and storylines in the books that they missed out. And on the show Barristan Selmy is dead but he's alive in the books or something?
The books are far superior, though the show did a very good job on the first four seasons on respecting the books. The fifth season is very different to the books, and there are a ton of characters and story arks who haven't even mentioned on the show. In addition some great characters like Stannis and Jaime have been very shit on the show, while Ramsey has been caricatured.

They are definitely worthy to be read, regardless if you have seen the show or no. In my opinion, the books are the best books in the genre.

Or people cant be cnuts and ruin a good show for others who havent read the books.

Not as bad as selmy, the whole of dorne, robert or stannis for me. Probably will change if he gets a larger role in the next book.

Agreed, Selmy was criminally underplayed in the series. Stannis too, the best battle commander in the 7 kingdoms bested by a psycopathic bastard. Dorne was horrible too. Lady Stoneheart was a decent character. Coldhands was awesome, but I always thought he was Benjen Stark anyway. Sansa has become more likable in the show. Not sure about Robert, he was alright.

Surely diarm has read the books or theories. He mentioned Cleganebowl.

I read the first two books but found the writing very longwinded and stopped. Have seen Cleganebowl mentioned on the TV thread on more than one occasion as well as on a few youtube videos which were supposed to be unrelated to GoT! It's about as well hidden a secret as

I've been avoiding this thread because I got nailed with one big spoiler on here ages ago (which still hasn't actually occurred on the show and I think may never at this stage). But seeing as the other thread is holding us to individual synopsis's of the previous episode with the occasional debate on vinegar/vanilla, plus the fact that the books and tv seem to be maneuvering away from each other anyway, I'm going to chance in here again.

Help yourself, but I was just speculating that you may be banned from that thread.

I see speculation on the other thread that the Starks have descended from a King beyond the wall. I hope they are not talking about the 13th Lord Commander of the Night's watch. That is just a theory with very less probability.

Also, that legend doesn't say that Starks descended from him, but that he might have been the brother of the King of the North.

Starks are descendants of the First Men, so they share some blood with the wildlings, but that's it.

Maybe they are speculating that the 13th Lord commander is a Stark.

Theories aside, basically what I'm hoping from this season is the big reveal that everybody knows is coming, apart from those who have avoided the internet for 5 years, to arrive in episode 8. Then episode 9 is the big battle ep with Ramsey meeting Jon's wildling forces and whoever else he can get on board. The battle is epic, like the best we've seen yet, they blow the budget on it... Ramsey wins, he kills Jon proper, butchers his corpse into 100 pieces and ships it off in a bag back to Melisandre with a note attached - 'Good luck'.

Ep 10 can then be the white walkers invading Westeros and massacring everyone remaining in the north.

I doubt they'd wait so much for that. 5 episodes between a set-up scene to build tension and "the moneyshot" is a bit too much. They'll do it in the 5th most likely. The next episode looks like a complete filler, so they'll have something big planned for the 5th one.

Why are people openly discussing the chapters FFS? There are people who don't want to read them and don't want them discussed.

We literally had this fecking discussion about a week ago and people agreed stuff like that should be in tags.

You lot are worse than the TV show people.

I feel for you. Those bastards completely ruined the saga for you by discussing * the chapters.

* By discussing, I mean saying that the chapters were amazing and fantastic.

I haven't read those, but now it is absolutely ruined. Likely won't read the new books, cause now everything has been spoiled.

Night King is Brandon Stark. That's my speculation for the books.

Yes and for people who can't quite realize that it is probably not a good idea to talk about a show on the internet when you are so afraid of having anything spoiled.

You have to draw a line somewhere, it starts with someone saying the chapter is amazing etc and then someone else will disclose a small detail. People show an amazing lack of self-restrain when it comes to GOT.

You're far too thick to act so condescending, Revan.

No line at all. Cina goes mad. Everyone else is happy. :)

You mean aside from last week when everyone was pissed off apart from you and fishfingers because of the spoiler? Despite you constantly saying everyone would prefer your shit way? You're just being a little bitch cause I banned you from the TV thread for constantly posting spoilers, although admittedly most of them were by accident - but I guess that's what happens with your level of intellect :)

EDIT: Oh and by the way, the only reason you're not seeing spoilers and only seeing people saying it's 'amazing' is cause I deleted those posts.

Oh, it was you? I thought that it was Wibble.

And no, I am not annoyed for getting banned from TV thread, because I basically broke all the spoiler rules (even though I didn't mean any harm) so it was as a deserved ban as it can be.

Seriously, both threads are crap because of over-policing in addition to some people not understanding the rules.

They're crap purely because of people breaking the rules. If rules weren't being broken, no 'policing' would be required. If it was up to me the TV thread would be far less strict but that's never going to happen due to the sheer volume of posters in there who hate speculation/spoilers/future talk/whatever.

Likewise in here, as we saw last week, people don't want future plots or cast announcements or book chapters spoiled on them either.

You're acting as if 'everyone would be happy aside from me' even though it's actually you who is in the minority.

There was a spoiler from the new chapters, regarding Aegon. I don't mind it but I'm sure some people would. It's only sensible to put those stuff in tags. Not the speculation or theories like in the other thread but just the stuff from the newest chapters. Most people haven't read them yet. I agree with Cina on that one.

I don't understand what's so difficult about the spoiler rules that people constantly break them, only to then bitch afterwards about over-policing. For the tv thread, anything outside of aired episodes is a spoiler. Hardly rocket science.

I understand it completely, just don't agree with it. I often answer questions on there that require some book knowledge - like some background info or details about this or that character or event. It's never spoilers though. What am I spoiling if I, for example, answer the question "Were Ned's father and brother alive during the rebellion" or "Who exactly is Arthur Dayne"? It has absolutely no effect or connection to an upcoming event or episodes; it's just an additional interesting detail that they'd have never learned otherwise and actually adds to the experience of watching the show. What's the problem with that? Especially when some idiot answers that same question, giving some daft speculative answer that's just not true.

In short - not all book info is a spoiler. Right now most of it isn't. When some book info is requested from a poster in the other thread and it is not a spoiler, I've got no problem giving it. If that's against the rules, ban me. But know that your rules are stupid.

No indeed it isn't. Book info that is also found in the show is not a spoiler. Simples. Anything else is, regardless of your opinion about it. Trying to explain things without spoilers sounds fine, but before you know it you've given something away that show viewers aren't supposed to know about. If everyone unambiguously follows the spoiler policy you'll never have that problem. Why overcomplicate things?

Because the show doesn't give enough details to fully appreciate what's happening. Moreover, the show watchers are morons that can't even follow what does happen on the screen. I didn't give any books info during the previous seasons, but right now there is very little they "aren't supposed to know about" because plot-wise the books are behind. It's really not at all difficult or complicated to avoid spoilering the show right now. Only some theories can do that but I never discuss that kind of stuff.
