Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

Cracking episode, even the ending gave me chillings although you could see it coming from a mile off.

So what's next for Ramsey? I think he'll probably head to the Wall, suffer a heavy defeat against Jon and the Wildlings and Jon will ride for Winterfell.

The trailer shows a big battle at Winterfell, with several Northern Houses' banners, Wildlings, Sansa, Davos and possibly Jon (it's unclear but I think it's him) present. I think a clash at Castle Black would be unnecessary if they're gathering everyone for a mass melee at Winterfell anyway. That said, there probably would be something to set everything off.

Preview of next week's episode:

Bran is going to be the viewpoint for the Tower of Joy. Jon the Targ finally confirmed?

Awesome. If the Tower of Joy battle is not absolutely epic, I will be disappointed. Nothing like the Sand Snakes shitshow, please. I want a dark, gritty, tense, bloody clash. No fecking dancing and showing off. God, I'm finally excited again for something in this show. It's been a while.

"I've got a gift for you." Pretty sure the banners right before that line were Umber. Bran told Osha to bring Rickon to the Last Hearth, seat of House Umber, back in season 3. Ah shit...

Tower of Joy has me pumped though, that looks great.

Pretty much confirmed that R+L=J. Damn this could be the best season yet. This will surely end to be the best TV show ever? At least one of the best. The makers have already said that it is becoming increasingly hard to make game of thrones now, because of the sheer amount of CGI and there will definitely be a lot more. Can't wait, really just can't wait.

No, but posts like this will certainly ensure it's one of the most overrated.

The inconsistency of this show in terms of quality means it'll never quite reach the tier of Sopranos/The Wire, and debatably Breaking Bad. Will definitely feature in a top 10 ever though in terms of sheer scale.

The episode was very good, but still there is some shit there. Like:

1) ISIS getting into the Myrcella funeral. Yep, here we have some religious fanatics, which have just humiliated the queen and somehow they manage to go everywhere and no-one does anything about them.

2) Ramsey being a caricature of the book's version. Him killing Roose was something that is difficult to see happening in the books, and they continued by him massacring Roose's wife and her son.

However, there was a lot of nice stuff and there was a lot of tension there. I even liked Arya's part, the dialogue there was nice. Nice to see Bran going backward in time. The north part was as always awesome, as was the intro of Euron.

The last part was slightly unexpected. I was expecting it to drag for another few episodes. But, better this way.

Next episode spoilers:

Tower of Joy! Finally, R + L = J being almost confirmed.

Next episode is called Oathbreaker so yeah, Jon will probably be there. So excited for that one and the Tower of Joy.

The worst secret ever getting confirmed makes this show one of the best ever?

I think it is a good show, who was amazing for sometime, but the writing is nowhere near best ever TV shows. It is still absurdly entertaining though.

Thought Ramsey was dead right to kill Roose. Ramsey had become expendable, they both knew it and they both knew the other knew it too. Given their respective personalities....

Kill first or be killed, I think.

Plus unlike the Dorne storyline where random shit just happens, this is something that had actually been building for a while.

What other TV show in history has such a long, thought provoking plot with such a big list of dynamic characters set in a fantasy world inspired by 14th century influences?

It's unique.

So was Flashforward.
Uniquely shit?

I actually think that it could have been decent if it didn't had 10+ pointless episodes, in addition to Lost-ing the shit out of it.

So, it was terrible in the end.

1) As we know there are many ways into and out of the castle. We also know the religious fanatics are in large part a creation of Cersei, that she thought she could control, but now they have grown beyond that, having large support amongst the population. The common folk of Kings Landing have no love for Cersei. Any option that involves force just leads the city into open rebellion against the crown. A crown whose forces are already weakened by the wars it has been fighting. Easy enough to see why right at this moment the religious nuts have that crown in a stand-off.

2) Not sure about book Ramsey not killing book Bolton. I actually could see it happening if at any point like in the show Ramsey feels he is about to be cast aside.

1) Apparently this was in some Septon church, so it makes slightly more sense. Actually, it doesn't. Why on Earth would the Kin and Lord Commander go there without any protection, knowing what just happened with the two queens?

2) Meh, Stannis will chop him in the next book.

While I wholly agree with your 2nd paragraph, I don't think it being a poorly kept secret is a bad thing. Big reveals like that should be built up to, not just plucked out of the sky. Only reason it's seemingly so obvious is because of how long and dense the existing books are. If Martin decided to change course now, for example, it would be a bad surprise IMO.

Ramsay killing Roose in the book makes no sense. He needs the latter's presence and gravity to keep the other Houses in check, and Roose himself admitted to Theon in the book that child lords are the bane of any house, and any child born from Walda won't live to adulthood.

Stannis will skin him.

Also, why Lord Davos and Melisandre have become best friends? Shouldn't Davos hold her personally responsible for what happened to Stannis? 'I want help from the woman who showed me that miracles exist', FFS. Shouldn't he at least hate her?

How much does Davos know about how Shireen died at this point?

I don't think Davos cared that much for Stannis by the end. He was just fulfilling his duties. He loved Shireen though, which is more of a concern.

The funeral is in the sept. The sept is controlled by the faith militia.

Nah, I think he did still care a lot for Stannis. Suspect it's more a combination of him being focused on the task at hand, him blaming the Boltons, him blaming Stannis himself and him generally being the kind of guy who feels slightly sorry for anyone as lost as Mel is. I suspect it's only a temporary thing...

I think it is in the Sept within the castle, but not entirely sure. I seem to remember there is the Great Sept at Kings Landing but also a "Small Sept" within the castle grounds.

Hard to know. With Jon being Azor Ahai, with Mel basically making it happen, and with the Others attacking, is hard to see them having problems in the future. They will call each other 'sweetie' by the end of the season.

Is Best Friends really the way to describe that? Or was Lord Davos just willing to have Melisandre use her powers for what he saw as the greater good?

Not because of the secret, but because of the possibilities of the show. The places the storyline could go are excellent. Perhaps the writing for Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sapronos etc are better but I don't know why but Game of Thrones is ever so slightly more gripping. The first 5 of last season were bad though, I must admit.

I think he was always to be shown as someone who doesn't go by 'the end justifies the means'. With Mel basically fooling Stannis for all these years, I cannot see how he would forgive her.

On the other hand, Mel genuinely thought that she is doing the right thing, so ...

Tower of Joy flashback should be great. Can't wait to see whether or not it is true, and the fight between the Kingsguard and Ned and co.

As far as Davos knows though, there really is no downside to having her revive Jon Snow, so it is not so much of "the ends justify the means" as using the tool you have available to get the job done.

I'm thinking Davos will probably find out about Shireen at some point though. If he does then it should definitely put the kybosh on their friendship.

Can someone please refresh my memory on this. How did the faith militia come about? Are they more powerful than the King's army? You would think the army would have them vastly outnumbered and outskilled.

Nah. Cersei is being told by the guards that she is not to leave the Red Keep, that's why she can't go to the funeral, which is not in the Red Keep. Tommen says to her that she was afraid to lose her again, which wouldn't make sense if she's just wandering around the castle. Also, we're shown Cersei looking out the window towards the city and, specifically, towards the Great Sept which is shown in the center of the frame. Then the scene is cut and the next one is Jaime and the priest.

They were always in the fringe but started gaining more notoriety and public support when Kings Landing started declining into poverty after the war with Stannis and the general public started to turn against the kingdom.

They became more belligerent once Cersei acting on Tommen's behalf restored their military powers to punish degenerates. She thought they would go after Loras who is gay but they rounded up on everyone including her.
