Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

Martin's had long enough to finish the book. It's nobody's fault but his own. I'm not waiting another 6/7 years to read the finished story when I can watch it in the next 2/3. People that get all angsty over it are silly, it's a solid show, even though they cocked Dorne up and changed a few storylines. If he ever finishes the story, I'll gladly read it afterwards.

I'm not entirely surprised that he describes food more passionately and realistically than sex

His food fetish is worse than Tarantino's foot fetish.

I only watched the first two seasons and you are right about the fact that it's different. If I'm being honest I'm bitter because I don't like the show and think that it's a bit shit, so I don't like the fact that they will have the priority. And I have in mind One Piece who stopped the production of the anime because it was too close from the manga.

In my view, there hasn't been a single on screen adaptation (either in books or in series) that has satisfied a book reader completely. Maybe To Kill a Mockingbird? Anything that has come close?

I can't be the only one who feels that the teasers (especially those 5 second ones on twitter) and trailers for the season have been a bit shit. Nothing exciting.

I'm excited to see how Bran's story arc developes and if the spoiler about the tower is right, then R + L = J also moves forward to a resolution.

Can't help but feel going from the TV show to the books was a better adjustment than the other way around, especially for people who started way back in 96'. The what could have been, cut content or outright changed stuff made me react in a more "oh, that would've been cool to see" etc as opposed to "OMG IT RUINED MAH BOOKS!!!!".

Although going from TV show to books it didn't help with formulating my own vision of the characters. Like Robert Baratheon being this giant of a man yet his played by the pudgey and relatively average height Mark Addy (who was fantastic btw).

Same with Jon Snow. He's 14 yet he'll always look like a bearded Kit Harington in my mind. And Joffrey challenging Robb Stark to a fight at Winterfell. Took a while to adjust to changes of similar ilk.

Agreed on the characters. I always forget that Tyrion is hideous in the books and Tywin doesn't have mutton chops in my mind.

Also, it isn't a food fetish, its called obesity. Its also the most ridiculous thing about his writing.

The food parts always just come across as padding, like when you had to write and essay at school so would use massive quotes to reach your word count.

Yes, how else was he going to bloat the feck out of an increasingly bloated series!

In one book, he devotes a page and a half on food alone in a chapter.

Anyone else find themselves making simple errors about the books?

For me I still find myself occasionally typing or saying Sir instead of Ser.
Will still slip and call the series A Song of Fire and Ice.
Still want to 100% blame the Lannister's for Ned's death even though others manipulated events.
Of course confusing secondary characters happens all the time.

Do we need to change the title to No TV spoilers now?

Ser is an obvious mistake many probably make.

GRR Martin destroyed my desire for revenge.

I literally bought some mead after reading the books, purely based on his descriptions.
Lemon cakes crop up a lot too.

Also, GRR Martins sex scenes are worse. His sexually active characters are all under age.

Banned in the other thread (rather unjustly thanks to E) boue) but apparently Jon Snow is dating Ygritte in real life

He knows something, that Snow lad.
I thought I remember reading they had dated at some time in the past, before she appeared on the show. Must've been awkward as feck during a certain scene.

Cool. Every time Ned or someone else thought how shocking it was for Jaime to be sitting in it after killing Aerys, I always thought that it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Now it kind of makes more sense though.

That's a good point. Gives a very different impression of the scene.

I literally have no recollection of any food descriptions in the books. I am a bit shocked to hear they were plenty without me ever registering them.

The bald guy that was killed by Arya at the end of S4 S1 , the one with the final lines 'thats a pretty little blade maybe ill pick my teeth with it bla bla bla"

What the hell was his accent? Makes my ears bleed.

And here I was thinking that someone had posted information regarding the release of the new book. :(

Sorry, not allowed to enter the TV show thread because I have 'read the books' so have to post the message in the wrong thread.

Thanks to Cina and his genius moderator policies.

That's because there were at least two in every chapter, you probably subconsciously switched off when reading them.

Moral of the story here, don't say R+L=J in the TV thread.

How the hell am I supposed to know? You are the one who's on about it the whole time.
And cut the name calling, you know what you'd be doing if someone else had been guilty of that.
 so it's OK for you to accuse me of being the one who does it but when I say it's not you can go "well how am I supposed to know"?

Given the amount of spoilers in that thread over the years, you shouldn't be blaming cina for his moddingof the thread. He has had to be strict to deal with people who cant keep their mouth shut and am pretty sure everyone prefers over zealous modding to spoilers being posted.
