Mixed final episode. A lot of it was better than what we’ve gotten this season, but there was still some baffling stuff in there.
Battle of Ice was disappointing, mainly because one of the most hyped up and anticipated battles in the series didn’t even happen. This version of Stannis, someone who was defeated and seemingly out of his depth and went into battle accepting his loss, could’ve been interesting…if it wasn’t for the fact that the books have a much better version. Stannis is supposed to be one of the best tacticians in Westeros. Instead, we get this dude. Basically listened to Melisandre relentlessly, and didn’t even bother to scout ahead at all before his attack to try and gain a tactical advantage. Ramsay wins again, because he can do no wrong.
In Dorne, instead of getting Fire and Blood, we get Bronn getting told that guys want bad pussy. Ffs, someone get Areo Hotah to chop the Sand Snakes in half.
Jaime’s scene with Myrcella was a little bit better. Poison was something I could see coming, but it was a big character moment as one of his kids accepts him as their dad. Hopefully this’ll give him a bit more edge next season.
Meereen was fun. They’ve managed to make that more enjoyable than in the books with Tyrion, Jorah and now Varys all being there. Interested to see what Tyrion does.
Did anyone else think Daenerys was in Westeros, like the Vale or something? I thought she was for a moment.
Are Sansa and Theon dead?!
Cersei’s scenes were great. Captured the whole humiliation aspect of the book perfectly, and Lena Headey gave a really good performance as well.
And feck Olly! They shouldn’t have teased Benjen like that in the preview, since we were all going to fall for it. I’m kinda surprised they had Alliser leading the anti-Jon band, but then apart from Olly, they hadn’t really built up any dissenting characters.
