Books A Song of Ice and Fire (Books) | TV show? What TV show?

I think this episode we will have the first small battle with the raiders and Ygritte dying as well as Tywin getting shot by Tyrion.

Next weekend we will than have the big battle at the wall with Stannis saving the night's watch.

Nah, the entire episode is at The Wall. Tywin will be getting shot next episode, almost certainly. Whether Stannis arrives in this episode or not isn't certain, though. They might have him appear at the end, but not make it entirely clear who it is.

Can't believe only two episodes left. Do you guys think this would have better as blockbuster movies ? The series is pretty good but as big production movies I think it would have been amazing.

Have they show this in the preview? Haven't watched it. Than they will keep Tywin's death for the last episode I guess? Makes sense if Ygritte dies this sunday to keep one death in their pocket for next sunday.

Last episode should be action packed. I am guessing the last 10 minutes will have Tyrion escape, shoot tywin and then Brienne meeting Stoneheart.

I'm sure someone could have produced something fairly special from the material, with big funding, and squashed it into a trilogy but it wouldn't be doing justice to such a huge story. 10 hours of episodes per year quite frankly isn't enough.

No way. A Song of Ice and Fire is currently like four times longer than the entirety of The Lord of the Rings, and there's still two more books to go. It would be awful.

They may be tempted by turning the last book into a film, but it would be totally inaccessible to anyone who hadn't read the books/watched the show so I don't see that happening either.

They'd make a shit load of money though. But thankfully it's not HBO's style.

There's 0% chance that they are going to any season into a film. At most they would make a film (or a mini-series) about, say, Robert's Rebellion, Dunk & Egg, the Dance of the Dragons or something else that is in the universe but not strictly the series.

What an episode. Shame there was no Stannis. Should've extended it by 30 mins just for that. Now it just feels anticlimactic.

The last episode will have so much things to do in it, not sure how they'll fit it all in properly. All the stuff with Stannis coming, Jon negotiating with Mance, Jon being made lord commander (is that in this book?), then the stuff at king's landing and they always do Daenerys stuff. Oh and Lady Stoneheart coming. Should be good.

Well damn, I guess I was wrong, no Stannis! To tell the truth, I had completely forgotten about the whole "parlay with Mance" part for the moment, so it does make some sense. It also probably means we won't get Lord Commander Jon Snow in the next episode, as some were speculating (if Stannis had come to save the day this episode).

Good episode. I loved that "panorama" shot they did. For TV, that was pretty amazing.

Well it was done differently in the books wasn't it? Think Alliser came to Castle Black after the fight and then him and Janos Slynt send Jon out to parlay with Mance. Glad they're starting to do things a bit differently though, adds a bit more excitement. They'll still probably do the Lord Commander bit though, don't think it would take up all that much time if they are going to have Stannis come anyways.

The whole "Lord Commander Snow" was never gonna happen this season. There is a good 2-3 episodes worth of stuff after Stannis winning between Slint and co rallying votes and Stannis offering Jon the chance to become Jon Stark of Winterfell.

I don't think Jon being appointed LC is going to happen this season.

There's so much stuff to happen in the next episode, though, so I don't know how they'd fit the election into it. Not if they want to keep some of that "Sam politicking" part in it. Of course, apparently the episode is going to last like 62 minutes, but still. There's Tyrion escaping - with help - and killing Shae and Tywin, which is bound to take up a bit of time. There'll be some Daenerys stuff for sure. There's Stannis, which is going to take up a goodly part. There's Arya leaving the Hound for whatever reason, and getting on that ship to Braavos. And let's not forget about Zombie Cat.

Nah of course not. His arc this season will end with Stannis' victory.

If George R.R. Martin wrote The Lion King

Not too much excitement over the episode in the TV thread. Spoiled cnuts. I enjoyed it a lot. Third best this season, perhaps.

Probably because they're not as interested in the storyline in the north compared to what's happening in King's Landing.

Nice episode even though I'm a bit disappointed that they killed off Pyp and Grenn. But I guess since they hardly ever got any screen time in show they were easy to kill off.

The attack also seemed rather weak not to mention that it was sheer idiocy to try and climb a 300 (700 in the books) foot wall during a fight and at the gate were only a dozen men plus two giants and a mammoth, that was a bit strange.

I often feel the changes in the show put in too many dumb stuff just to make it "work better" on TV. And what was that shit with the huge anchor frozen in the wall?

Superb episode, not quite as good as the blackwater but not far off. Did the battle justice imo.

I think they have bitten off more than they can chew this season though, far too much content has been crammed into ten hours and I think the quality is suffering because of it.

Jon/Mance Meeting - Stannis Attack
Bran
Arya [Hound death?]
Tyrion Escape
Lady Stoneheart

And presumably they'll brush over at least one of Daenerys/Brienne/Sansa.

Far too much to cover in just one episode there, whilst doing justice to some plotlines. Hope I'm wrong though.

Edit: Just seen some of the reactions in the TV thread and whilst some are a perfect example of stupidity/lack of concentration - I think some are making valid points about the build up, it was the same last week with the duel. I think the episodes need to be longer, it definitely needed the Stannis conclusion imo. Which would only be another ten minutes.

It was an amazing episode. People on the other thread are moaning twats.

You just knew that they were going to go all Hollywood with the Jon / Ygritte-scene, I was hoping that someone would kill her before Jon arrived simply because I knew they were going to make something cheesy of it all..

Didn't it happen that way in the books though, with the "you know nothing Jon snow" and all that? Now ya would they get rid of it.

The finale is apparently like 66 minutes long so they'll have more time with that. It'll still be difficult to fit it all in, and have the appropriate reactions to all the deaths because there will be at least 3 pretty big ones next episode. Unless they do Tyron's 2 silently and quickly without much build up or reaction. The hound one will be a longer one probably as everyone likes him.

Didnt he find her killed amongst the rest of the wildlings when he walked about after the fight / the next day? It's been a while since I read the books, mind..

"He found Ygritte sprawled across a patch of old snow beneath the Lord Commander’s Tower, with an arrow between her breasts. The ice crystals had settled over her face, and in the moonlight it looked as though she wore a glittering silver mask.

The arrow was black, Jon saw, but it was fletched with white duck feathers . Not mine, he told himself, not one of mine. But he felt as if it were. When he knelt in the snow beside her, her eyes opened. “Jon Snow,” she said, very softly . It sounded as though the arrow had found a lung. “Is this a proper castle now? Not just a tower?”

“It is.” Jon took her hand. “Good,” she whispered. “I wanted t’ see one proper castle, before … before I …” “You’ll see a hundred castles,” he promised her. “The battle’s done . Maester Aemon will see to you.” He touched her hair. “You’re kissed by fire, remember? Lucky. It will take more than an arrow to kill you. Aemon will draw it out and patch you up, and we’ll get you some milk of the poppy for the pain.”

She just smiled at that. “D’you remember that cave? We should have stayed in that cave. I told you so.” “We’ll go back to the cave,” he said. “You’re not going to die, Ygritte. You’re not.” “Oh.” Ygritte cupped his cheek with her hand. “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” she sighed, dying."

I think he finds her almost dead after the battle but she dies in his arms. Definitely remember the you know nothing bit, but it's been a while so I could be wrong...

You are correct he didn't see her getting killed but only found her among the dead and dying in the aftermath of the first battle. In the books they also hold the wall several days before he goes out to negotiate with Mance.

Oh well, still found the way they did it in the series cheesy.. :D

I think it was the whole seeing her get shot and then it really didn't translate well. I agree.

That's good news! Yeah, the preview gives a little hint at what might happen with the hound if you've seen it. Not sure if that is different from how he goes down in the books, doesn't he just die slowly after the battle at the inn? Wonder if they'll show Arya sailing off as well.

I was a bit disappointed though that's probably because I kept on expecting someone to shout "STANNIS!" at any time but that never materialized. That aside, effects wise it was a pretty good episode though I think they could have filled more content into it.

I think last episode will have

Hound dying/arya leaving
stoneheart
Tyrion escaping
Tywin dying
Bran reaching bloodraven
And maybe Stannis arriving?

Should be brilliant.

You're correct. He finds her dying the next days and he says something like everything gonna be alright (not those words) and she says 'you know nothing, Jon Snow' before she dies in his arms.
