A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

Real Madrid is the end game for any manager worth his salt. If they come after Poch, he won't even hesitate.
Easy said in theory. If you're sitting there with a Real Madrid contract in front of you, the chance to win Champions Leagues and manage future legends, I don't think many would reject it.

Why would Real Madrid hire him? He has achieved nothing of importance and has never played for Madrid. To come in and take over the threepeat CL winners? That is more far fetched than us going for Arnautovic

When was the last time someone signed a contract and left that summer?

Thiago Silva in 2012. Signed a new contract with Ac Milan that lasted 12 days.
Suarez signed a 4 year extension for Liverpool that lasted 7 months.
Fabian Delph declared he was staying at villa, then signed for city about a week later.

There's probably a lot more.

Suarez case happens often, usually they leave the next summer. Like us with Ronaldo.
Delph's was a weird one. But he never signed a contract did he? Players say they'll stay all the time and end up leaving. It isn't the same.
Silva's was 6 years ago.

My point was that it is rare that it happens, and 1 real examples in 6 years is proof of that.

I think there’s only a handful who won’t be tempted

Depends, I think he will stay one more year. But, if Real really come calling saying he’s the one candidate, they will never give it to him again in the future. Think Real will hire someone a bit underwhelming to be the fall-out guy the next season, perhaps even Wenger. However, United and Moyes have shown how dangerous that can be

Fair enough. I've tried a google search but can't seem to get any relevent results.

It's rare for such a short turnaround, but it has happened. Personally, I'm not convinced Madrid will go for him due to his lack of trophies but I wouldn't rule it out based on a new contract extension.

Why would Poch sign a contract which reportedly has no release clause if he was on Madrid’s radar as manager and if Poch wanted to go there? I’m sure the Madrid high brass would have picked up the phone and said “oh Poch we want you and we’re gonna get rid of ZZ”. It’s absolutely non sensical.

They have had a long standing interest in him haven't they, going back to his Espanyol days I believe. And the belief is one day he'll be Real manager.

I hope he does end up at Real, wins stuff, gets used to winning a few things and then when he leaves in 2/3 years, comes to us.

Perez said they weren't prepared at all for Zidane's exit. They didn't get rid of him, it was his decision.

They didn't get rid of Zidane.

For what they say Zidane told yesterday to Florentino.Besides It is different to retain a player than a coach, even if they have a contract

Pochettino could be the answer for Real if they decide that it’s time for a squad overhaul. They do have a lot of older players and I think maybe Zidane felt that this Real team has peaked and he wasn’t the right man to sell players and go through a squad overhaul. It might be a good time to do it now with Zidane gone.

So maybe Real looks at how Pochettino overhauled the Tottenham squad and hopes he can do the same for them. Just with a bigger bag of money. It’s not usually how they run their club, but could be worth a shot since they know that they have to get younger.

Or they might try and squeeze the last drop out of the current crop. Then they need a short term manager who can manage their superstars.

But who knows what they’ll do. Lucky for Tottenham that they just signed Pochettino to a long contract. Would have been difficult to negotiate a new one with Madrid looking for a manager. It’s going to be a long summer for Tottenham fans, with all the Pochettino and Eriksen rumours.

Poch is happy with low pressure and media fawning at Spurs.

Obviously, Poch had no prior knowledge that the Real job would become available so soon.

There is every reason to believe Real will make him their next manager, should they opt to buy out the remainder of his contract of course.

We could do a lot worse if that does happen. He'd have Elite club experience, trophy experience and gets his teams playing better football than our most recent managers have achieved.

So why would Zidane walk? If I told you he would 2 days ago you would have said I was insane.

"I've taken the decision to not continue next year as #RealMadrid Coach. I made this decision because I love this club, I love (Florentino Perez) and I am grateful towards him.

Zidane's own words. Clearly, he chose to leave of his own accord.

You go and read his quotes. Perfectly reasonable explanation. Even if there was something different to the official line from Zidane -- I doubt it was anything to do with Perez wanting to get rid of him. Ffs Perez looked gutted in the presser.

Pep left at the top, so has Zidane. He wouldn't be the first manager to leave on a high.

2 days before Fergie left, if if told you he was leaving you'd have said I was insane.

You believe a single word that comes out of that mans mouth?

Not a single journalist closer to Florentino knew this, and they would have known, it would have been leaked in the midnight football talk radio shows yesterday. But I guess you as a Spurs fan who is reading Real Madrid can try getting your manager must have a "truthfulness authority" higher than anyone else.

As I've said, I'm not even a madridista, and I have no idea if Florentino is going to achieve getting Pochettino, what I do know, and everyone knows here by now, is he's going to put all the eggs in that basket. Each single Mouth of Sauron -aka Florentino's journalists- is saying the same.

And now, for those who don't understand why the strong links between Madrid and Pochettino, not being him any Madrid former player: he's an Espanyol de Barcelona legend, the enemies of FC Barcelona. He has stated several times he's absolutely anti-barcelonista. There has always been a strong link between Real Madrid and Espanyol, due to them being the "spanish" club of Barcelona and Barça rivals. Lots of players on loan or sold from Madrid to Espanyol, etc etc. He has always been rated by Florentino, since he was Espanyol coach. Several interviews along the years by Pochettino hinted he wouldn't mind coaching Real Madrid eventually, talking about how great Florentino is. Barça fans call Espanyol "Real Madrid B" for a reason.

So they hired him because of his goals?

They took a risk with him, Poch appointment is a safer bet compared to Zidane.

Not at all. Zidane managed their B team, they would have know all about his management style first hand. He's also used to the egos that come with footballing superstars as he was one and played in a team full of them.

Lol list these reasons? Il chose to beli Vegas the facts as I see them instead of *SportsWitness* and let you guys argue about the rest, Poch will be our manager next season, as I have said all season,

Zidane said it was his own decision. He didn't have to say that. He could've said nothing.

You implying Zidane was sacked?

Not at all I’m implying that Perez must of known something was up, you don’t just resign from the top job in the world with out ur boss having a feeling about it.

Probably, Poch is not worth the fee it’d take

Right so all these *hints* and *links* go against what Poch has actually said when signing his contract? Why pick and chose? Balls on the line, do you think he will be in Madrid next season?

This says different?

It wouldn't impossible that Zidane only made this decision definite after winning the CL. And Poch signed his contract before the final. So it's very possible Perez had no idea.

Especially when Perez is known for leaking stuff. Imagine it coming out before the final that Zidane was going to leave if they win.

The reasons for Poch joining Real? Okay

1. Real is the top job in European football. The absolute pinnacle for any ambitious manager.

2. Getting the chance to manage some of the best players in the game today.

3. More funds to play with.

4. Warmer climate.

5. Higher basic salary.

Etc etc so on so forth.

No idea. Why should I say he's going to leave Spurs or not? Any message stating "he is going to sign for Madrid" or "he is not going to sign for Madrid" has no veracity at this moment. With the info we have right now, we can only say he has a contract recently renewed, and Florentino wants him above anyone else. He's Spurs coach so far.
