A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

He's treating spurs like a stepping stone saying he is open to Real Madrid

And also giving them a rough time with no cups by saying the cup is only for ego

That was after this:

Are you mocking our finished above x team trophy? How dare you!

Regardless, my point was only that if Poch does go to Madrid at some point it doesn't make Spurs any more of a stepping stone than pretty much any other team.

He is perhaps the most iconic and influential manager you've had in decades. By accounts of most Spurs fans here, he 'loves the club' and will not leave until he is done with his 'project'. While it is usual for players to have their heads turned at top clubs, I've not heard of good managers leaving their 'projects' at 'top' clubs unfinished. City had to wait for Pep at Bayern. Lots of clubs missed out on Klopp because of his goals at Dortmund. Even Benitez is committed to fecking Newcastle.

And here is Poch embracing the interest from Madrid and talking about a possible move while you're still struggling to get a trophy with a team of a caliber which cannot be reassembled easily by a club of your stature. This is not 'stepping stone' stuff, more 'divorce your wife of 6 years to get laid with the hot chick next door'.

I'm still pissed about us not being that hot chick, mind you.

He should go to Madrid if they call. Has done all he can here.

This would entirely depend on whether the board are prepared to step up to the next level post stadium build.

I don't think they will and we will continue to work on a tight budget, but if genuine investment started going in to the team it would be very exciting.

Better than your whistling in the wind attempts to convince yourself about Poch leaving for RM this summer.

He may or may not leave. But he has said what he has said, and I have no doubt you're amongst the ones convincing themselves that it has a benign interpretation. From my point of view, he's flirting with Madrid there, and that's disrespectful from a manager who's backed so fervently by own club, a club that has won nothing with him in charge, so far, despite all the promise and expectation.

I don't want him to go to Madrid. At Spurs he won't be a threat and Madrid will settle for a 2nd rate manager. At Madrid he could build a great team. Apart from that it's irrelevant because Ole will be manager here next season.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but last summer Real Madrid did come calling, but Pochettino stayed iirc. I don't think it's as straight forward as Real Madrid want, Real Madrid get.

I honestly think he wants to stay longer and continue working with this squad he has built. He may not be in a rush to go to Spain.

I think Spurs is a hot chick :(, Just look at this majestic bird.

Poch needs to be beaten about his head with a stick for allowing us to have the chance to draw level on points with them tomorrow after the fecking first half of the season that we’ve had.

I'm in a seriously bad mood after that so this may well be a kneejerk that I'll later rethink after being more rational.

But if we miss out on CL football this season, his position at the club becomes untenable. You cannot feck up such a comfortable lead and expect to stay as manager. I love the man and he's done fantastic work at the club, but nowhere else would such a monumental drop in form be tolerated.

It's ok, if he finishes outside the top 4 he's still doing a great job because Wolves outspent them this season.

Don't blame him. He needs money and better players to defeat Southampton.

You lot spent nothing in the summer, if someone is to blame it's the greedy Levy.

Needs to leave.

Taken them as far as he can.. Madrid with all their young talent is a great opportunity.

Even if they fire him.. He won't be short of options after that.
Agree with this. But I hope we don’t entertain the idea. Don’t see how better he would be than Ole.

I never understood whats with the basketball?

Finishing outside the top 4 will signal the end of their 'cycle'. Projects like Spurs don't last forever, the money eventually catches up. Levy could have done nothing to stop their eventual slide because good players cost a lot of money that Spurs don't have. How much of a difference would Jack Grealish have really made?

It will be interesting to see how Poch fares in Madrid but they sure look incompatible to me. Madrid is about trophies, trophies, trophies. Poch is not. Madrid is about galacticos (yes, even when they have a truckload of talented young players), Poch is not. Madrid is about getting results NOW. Poch is a long term guy. Poch needs a team that is not in a hurry. He's like Klopp.

As said before - Pochettino's spurs going to top 4 in the last couple seasons were because teams like United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are inconsistent and had gone or going through restructuring phases.

Now that teams like city, liverpoole and united are looking to be more consistent atleast in terms of the top 4 - the moment Chelsea and Arsenal step up will end tottenham's spree.

Was hardly some amazing work by Spurs or the manger when everyone else was so weak. Pochettino's transfers indicate his average managerial sights.

Our lack of spending in the summer is a joke, but you can't fully blame that on the points gap we've somehow managed to throw away in recent weeks.

I don't think he should go, but questions need to be asked of him when as a manager you oversee such a tremendous drop in form. It's really not acceptable.

Saw this coming but not this bad. Their players have looked tired and their squad weakness is showing now, it was mental they didn't get anyone in the summer.

Still all surprising mind, the collapse has been very bad. What do the Spurs fans make of it?

As long as the United-job looked like it would go his way - Spurs did really well. But the better United performed, Poch knew he wasn't going to O.T and lost the motivation :)

Perez won't touch him with this rate.

He's going to stay at Spurs for the mean time.
