A serious look at Mauricio Pochettino

2 CBs,Rose and Eriksen all appear to want out.

Spurs dont have the depth to banish them all.

Its not Pochs fault on the contract side of things.

Levy fecked it up with the idea of keeping his players for way too long instead of cashing on and replacing them. They are in a terrible state now. Most of their players are running their contracts down and will leave on free. They won't earn a cent for them and it will be hard to generate funds to get replacements. Terrible management from their owner. They are in a fecked up state.

He's not got it easy at Tottenham currently, but spending money in the summer and taking this squad to 14th in November is definitely partly on him.

After this dip, he has to go prove himself in China before deserving another PL opportunity.

Instead of keeping them in the squad to spread disharmony, he should banish them to the reserves. It's bad management to keep them in the squad/play them when they clearly can't be bothered.
I had a good chuckle at that post also

If Spurs are lucky enough to get someone as good as Allegri who is one the the best managers in the World unlike Poch who is busted flushed they might have the chance to then really overachieve and maybe even win a trophy..

Really, Rio was here 12 years, Carrick 11 years, Scholes, Rooney 13 years that your core right there.. Pat and Vidic 8 years

I'm just questioning where this theories from the "core" bit; SAF created four teams at Utd (my fav was the 1999 442 team) but the core didn't change that much, if poch hasn't built a good core by now then what does that say about him as a manager - even worse hes created the core and lost the dress room..

Do you think he'd do a job here?

Yeah...not so sure about that "core" remark. I think it's more of the supporting cast that gets changed frequently and the core less frequently. The core is what you build your team around. And sometimes you get it right and a new player gets added to that core...

Lo Celso and Sessegnon are only just coming back from injury. Foyth has also been injured. Ndombele's fitness was not up to scratch, from the occasional matches I have seen of Spurs he's good for about an hr. Then he's knackered. They also do not have a RB, whatever happened to that Walker Peters guy? Surely he is better than a want away red card waiting to happen Aurier? A lot of Pochettino's new blood that he wanted to integrate has been injured.

Would be funny seeing that swanky new stadium in the championship, I dont think it will end up that bad for Spurs however, too much quality in the team. Even if they cbf'd.

Poch is done at Spurs, once you lose the players that's it you done. Levy is never going to the alternative which is to give him 100s of millions to build a new team.

The problem Spurs have though is that if they bring in a new manager unless its a real big name the players still likely will want to move on and consider their time done at that club. So I think Spurs are now in for a period of mid table wilderness for a number of seasons.

Its just his natural end. I still think he would be good going to your club. But your club would need to give him freedom, allow him to move players he doesn't out, and to bring in who he wants.

I think spurs are in worse position than Arsenal. Yes spurs have better team. But it’s easier to rebuild Arsenal as a competent manager will get more freedom and they will pay decent wages. At spurs Levy is in so control that next manager will have to accept an ageing squad who has lost motivation . They also buy too many young players and don’t focus on the now. They have taken the whole resale value thing too far

Good luck to Spurs post Pochettino. No other manager would have done what Pochettino has done with the backing he received from the club.

Levy and the Spurs board will now have to start spending big unless they find a manager that can work with financial restrictions.

leceister under Rodgers will be the new Spurs post Poch, while Spurs will come back to reality and compete for Europa league positions.

I feel like West Ham are funnily enough the only team they could beat at the moment. Will be interesting to see what happens at the weekend.

Spurs troubles aren’t to do with Poch. It’s all on Levy really and his wage structure. Poch is having to deal with a disgruntled squad. He’s a quality manager and I’d still have him here.

Can't see anyone other than Eddie Howe replacing Poch. For all the troubles at Napoli i don't think Ancelotti would go there and if Naggelsmann became open to move, bigger clubs would try to get him.

So Spurs are gonna lose the Belgian CBs, Eriksen and Pochettino in one year and that too in net loss? Yikes.

I hate to kick someone when they're down @GlastonSpur but seriously how naive does he look now?
All those years of telling us Spurs players were happy to play for Spurs no matter what, money made no difference, the stadium would keep players and manager at the club etc etc. As predictable as the sun setting tomorrow, Spurs players wanted more money after success, who'd have thought it? Now they all want out and are refusing to sign new contracts.

Tbf to him he was right more often than Spurs critics. They kept predicting each summer was the year for the team to collapse and Kane and others to be sold for like 3 years straight and it never quite came. That's almost the same length has what we've been able to keep Pogba, Di Maria or any decent player since SAF retired

The main issue is not Poch but the board and the players. The board was interested in the stadium not in improving the squad that at the time could progress to title winner. Take a look at Liverpool they were way behind Spurs a few years ago and now they are up ahead and catching up with City.

Players lost their hunger now & bored with same old things every season. Some of their players reach their prime age or even past the prime age, what some of those players want right now is new challenge to motivate them again. The best thing what Spurs can do is not sacking Poch but moving on from this season, try to survive as long as they can, playing players who want to be part of the next project & rebuild the team again from scratch. I have said this before and I will stick with it that they are in worse situation than us in the rebuilding process.

Plus Rose and they still haven’t sign Trippier’s replacement.

Contract situation is just an excuse, Eriksen is still a Tottenham player until the end of this season, they should have made him their center-piece, moved him down to CM, let him dictate their play, but Pochettino wont do that. A team is never better then their players, and once you refuse to use your best players, your done as a manager.

This is the tip of the ice berg. Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Eriksen, Rose, Aurier, Wanyama, Pochettino could all go.

Then with them dropping out of the CL you will have clubs circling their best players. A lot of clubs would be interested in the likes of Son and Kane. Clubs that can offer CL football and a wage increase. Could even be some players looking to follow him out the door if he walks. Wasnt the main reason for Ndombele joining Spurs because he wanted to work under Pochettino?

Could well be mid table irrelevance for a couple years in a worst case scenario. Even best case will have them back in the EL. Certainly done as a CL qualification regular.

I think he'll be gone over Christmas. He'll pick up a solid job in Spain (someone on the level of say, Sevilla), do extremely well and being managing Real Madrid by 2021/22.

Eddie Howe will replace him and do well (top 4).

How things went tits up so fast, something must have happened behind the scene and it was big. Not sure only spending and wages are the issues.

So fast? We have been absolutely dog shit since January. That's 10 months at least. Any other top 6 club and he would have been sacked months ago.

For what it's worth there is absolutely no way I'd be happy with Eddie Howe.

If we employ Eddie Howe I give up on football.

Not true at all. The first who popped into my mind was Klopp, who is without a doubt the better manager without any caveats. Unless you actually think Poch is the best manager in the world?

I must be the only person that doesn't see Eddie Howe as a top manager capable of getting into the top 4 .

Going from Poch to Howe just seems a huge downgrade to me

How do you see things going mate, do you think they will hold on to him for the time being until end of the season? Or do you think they might take action fairly soon?

It'll be funny if Spurs win trophies post Pochettino and all you'll be able to do is point to any foundations Pochettino might have put in place.

He has done very well at Spurs but after Mourinho I am now weary of damaged goods. He could come here, start well but first sign of trouble suspicions and accusation could start tearing the dressing room apart because a manager who have lost the dressing room once will become insecure and see enemies in any dissenting players. Maybe a year out of the game to recharge batteries and start over Christmas of 2020, time enough for us to see where the Ole project is headed and by then we should have a better squad.

Any other top 6? You are being dramatic here. Poch achieved top 4 and reached final CL spot without signing a single player but actually lost one of his main midfielder Dembele. Any top 6 club wouldn't sack a manager who achieved such a thing without spending a single penny in 2 transfer windows.

Regarding the form of the team since January to end of the season, what do you expect for a manager to do something given that he received no backing from the board.

As for the form this season, it's way too late. Lot of players in the squad are unsettled, wanted to leave and have lost both their hunger and interest in Spurs's project.

Would you consider Poch being the reason for the players being unsettled. Talking about Tottenham not being able to win the league for the next 10 years will not have gone down well within the player group, I reckon.

They will start a winning run now.

I think they'll beat West Ham, Roberto is basically giving away a goal a game so they're 1 up there even before kick off. Need to defend well and they'll win that.

Not sure who they've got after that, Man. United?

How is Poch being responsible? I mean we could take him into consideration for the trouble, but at the moment what I think for main reason is that the players wanted to leave because they want a new challenge, they know they won't win trophy at Spurs and they are probably bored aiming & achieving the same thing every season. Spurs wasted their time focusing on their stadium and not to improve their squad when they had the chance to get near to the title challenger.

But thats literally the managers job, motivating players. Also Tottenham just reached a Champions League final, ruling them out as a trophy winners is nonsense, atleast for the players responsible for bringing them there, should you not build on such a success? All the players from last seasons Champions League run team (-Trippier) are still Tottenham players, and that was a team that at the start of the year still was in the running for the league title, if the players dont believe they can win anything with Tottenham, that is on the manager.

I think Levy is very reluctant to sack him so it's likely he will remain in post for a while yet though I think Christmas will be key. If we show no improvement by then I think Levy will have no choice but to sack him.
