Cannavaro started all games in the World Cup with Maldini and Nesta.

Ok, but I still think he wasn't on top form and ability in the 90s.

Regarding the 6 hour time limit, how about we decide officially that we reduce the time limit starting from the 3rd round? that way no one can say he didn't know.

Was he a starter for Italy in that WC? Anyway I really like Cannavaro but feel you could've had a better defender at that time.

I think it will just be the 16 of you voting, this is going to be difficult for those of us that know feck all about serie A in the 90s lol.

Sure, I'm fine with it.

If anyone thinks it's a problem, please raise it before the start of Round 3. Else, it would be applied at the start of the round.

Hey Aldo, I'm back on-line for a while now so will post my pick once Brwned has done his, cheers.

If anyone else above me in the list is away, can pm your picks if it's easier for you.

You should've went on without me! If I'm not on for 6 hours then go on ahead without me, even if it's still 12 hours for everyone else.

I pick Thuram.

The only thing about Thuram is you'll always get people saying they thought he was best as a right back if you stick him in the middle and vice-versa. Realistically his versatility's just a huge bonus with him playing as a right-sided centre back in a 3-man defence, a centre back in a 4-man defence and a right back in a 4-man defence throughout this decade. Am I right in saying Parma regularly played 3 at the back?

I think so too, not quite sure... Anyway, for me he's one of the best defenders of that era, and a very good pick for a late 2nd round.
Plus, with this game being very hard on finding full backs, Thuram can prove to be super important, with that versatility you were speaking of

Thisistheone is online. Does he know Brwned already made his pick?

Ok my choice is Alessandro Costacurta.

A lot of people who followed Serie A in the 90's would put this guy in their team of the decade, imo. Not as famous as Cannavaro or Nesta but I hope he gets appreciated for the outstanding defender he was.

Great pick

Very good pick, for me should've been picked before Cannavaro

I am rather a newb when it comes to the 90's Serie A so my picks wont necessarily be great ones. I'm here to learn more than to debate. The choices i make are based on people i can remember (not loads) and people i have been reading about since the draft was announced. It was not a Serie A draft when i put my name forward but ill enjoy it nontheless!

Did you PM Fergie's Gum, Thisistheone? He was online after your pick

Anyone who's in the next 5 picks or so, PM me or AldoRaine your next pick(s) if you're going offline.

Seria A 90s draft wasn't my favorite option either and I am not a big expert either, but I am here like you said to learn and to debate because some people here or maybe many people here know a whole lot more than me regarding Seria A at the 90s

No worries, part of the fun in a draft is learning, like you say. And there's not much better than 90's Serie A. Was the best league in the world, full of the best players on the planet. Enjoy!

He wasn't, and I think this is causing some confusion. It's not about only picking players that had their career peaks (04-06 for Cannavaro) in the 90s. You can still pick Cannavaro because his peak in the 90s was still higher than the majority of other defenders. Baresi's peak might've started off in the late 80s, but his level of performance between 90-94 was still a higher peak than most others.

Of course, I'm just pointing it out so people won't vote for the Cannavaro they remember in the 2000s, thats all.. Nothing against Cannavaro I love the lad..

Personally, I would have picked Costacurta over Cannavaro because he was better during the 90's even though after that Cannavaro reached a higher level. But it's up to us when the games are played to highlight our players strengths etc.

Pretty much the same for me, I was very young but a football nerd so will hopefully do alright :)

Gianluigi Vialli.

Formed Sampdoria's greatest attacking partnership along with Roberto Mancini in the early 90s. Wasn't too bad for Juventus either in the mid nineties.

My pick is Djorkaeff

Always loved Djorkaeff for some reason. When I was younger I used to tell my mates he was better than Zidane, not because I really believed it but just out of bias. And for a time (roughly 1995-1997) I got away with it. Then it got to the stage where I could no longer defend Youri's case anymore and had to admit defeat. They still wind me up about it today.

That scissor kick he scored for Inter was out of this world.

Djorkaef :(

Was thinking no1 would pick him and i could get him late on.

Vialla is a great pick aswell

Still he was pretty good. Maybe not his peak but he won European title with Parma and he was one of the best defenders in Euro 2000.
