Right enough, Kanchelskis only started over 25 league games for us once in his three Premier League seasons (Sharpe did so in all three seasons). That surprises me. Kanchelskis is revered on here by some yet he was on the bench quite consistently, why's that?

It could be because that one time Kanchelskis start over 25 league games, was his last season with United where he scored 16 league goals; more than Lee Sharpe had ever done in one season.

It's all a bit weird. McClair used to play a fair bit but it appears that before Keane arrived, we didn't play the traditional 442 as many think. Our line-up vs Boro for a league game in 1993:-

Peter Schmeichel
Paul Parker
Denis Irwin
Steve Bruce
Lee Sharpe
Gary Pallister
Eric Cantona
Paul Ince
Brian McClair
Mark Hughes
Ryan Giggs

Now, looking at that, Ince seems to be the only central midfielder. We won 3-0, Giggs and Sharpe caused havok. I can't find any info on the system we used though. But Kanchelskis came in a fair, look at this one from 1994:

Peter Schmeichel
David May
Denis Irwin
Steve Bruce
Lee Sharpe
Gary Pallister
Eric Cantona
Andrei Kanchelskis
Brian McClair
Mark Hughes
Ryan Giggs

Beat Wimbledon 3-0 without a central midfielder. Bizarre, really. Anyone else know more about how we used to fit in Sharpe, Giggs, Kancheslskis and McClair?

This was probably the system :

Schmeichel
Parker - Bruce - Pallister - Irwin
Ince
Sharpe -----------------Giggs
Cantona
Hughes - McClair

Sir Alex always said he never player a proper 442, with Cantona it'd be impossible too anyway.

Giggs-McClair-Ince-Sharpe
Cantona
Hughes

Kanchelskis-May(Sharpe?)-McClair-Giggs
Cantona
Hughes

Choccy played in centre mid loads in his later years because he couldn't do the business up top any more (some say he never could!).

Yeah, they all look possible. I just find it funny because the general perception of Utd and Ferguson is always 442. But it's obviously not the case.

I would prefer 1, to be honest.

I like to see most of the team that was actually drafted in the final in these. If it were up to me, we wouldn't pick any players of the losers.

I'm in for two as well. We have never tried having two, while that has been always been the case in the mains.

aconlars, but that also gives us new matchups in every round and doesn't make it monotonous where we have to rate the same teams again and again.

Gents, I'm really sorry about this now but something has cropped up and I won't be available to log in until Sunday night at the earliest, but more likely Monday at some stage. Is it okay if myself and Paolo have our game then? I haven't had the time to post a PM to Paolo asking for permission first as this is literally last minute and I'm out the door.

Apologies all round gents, and especially to Paolo.

Guys, where do we stand on the picking players rules?

Do you want one or two picks from the losing team in every fixture?

Two picks. It makes the next fixture/round more interesting (harder to pick up a winner).

So, after Thisisitheone vs Anointed One, are we going with Brwned vs stretford_kid first, or mine vs zlatan_ish?

Brwned and Stretford kid I think? See what Aldo says.

Any gems that were not picked up in the draft? Here's some I had down on the shortlist:

Ziege (not 100% sure if played enough)
A.Cruz
Colonnese
Battistini
Sartor
G.Pin
Sforza
Cois
Stroppa
Morfeo
Gianichedda
Guly
Boghossian
Vlaovic
Poggi
K.Anderson
M.Ganz
S.Schillaci
K.H.Reidle
Protti
T.Skuhravy
Raducioiu
Di Canio, Carbone
A.Lalas
F.Coco

There's a problem with the "picking two" concept. If I pick the 3rd and 4th of someone because of the whole best loser second chance thing, its a huge difference than picking second player when everyone else pick the best one

You won't be stuck with 3rd and 4th. Te picking combination will be:

1st, 4th
and
2nd, 3rd

I thought the same. Hence I proposed that suppose A and B are the ones picking players from C, then A picks one player, then B picks two, then A picks his second.

Kind of like a mini draft. A B B A.

Perhaps the players in the best loser scenario could pick players from any team? (Obviously after the other teams have picked). Most of the best names will have been picked anyway, and it helps negate that they are effectively picking a lot worse players when they pick 4 from 12 instead of 2 from 12.

So they'll draft in an ABBA matter, but the players available will be the 12 players from losing team in the best loser match, and the remaining players from all the other losing teams, after winners have made their picks.

Any comment on this suggestion?

Yeah, that sounds ok to me. Was trying to think of some way of getting the missing players back into the draft (Baggio etc) but that's making things a bit complicated then.

KM v AldoRaine18 (06/09/2012)
Thisistheone v Anointed One (07/09/2012)
Brwned v stretford kid (08/09/2012)
Isotope v zlatan_Ish (09/09/2012)
Fergus' Son v Lifaboy (10/09/2012)
Paolo Di Canio v nahealai (11/09/2012)
Baconlars v Best Loser (12/09/2012)

Its all good man im in shite nick at the moment anyway

Right so I'm still a bit confused about this picking thing. If I beat Stretford Kid 21-20, for example, and he's the best loser, and then he beats baconlars, we both pick players from baconlars? Couldn't we bring one of the teams that dropped out back in (Fergies' Gum since he dropped out last, for example) to ensure there's still a full choice of top picks for all 8 teams going through? Realistically there's not going to be 4 top, top players from each team, and the unlucky person who wins his game still ends up being handicapped compared to other teams. Seem a tad unfair, I'd say.

Not the team just the 6/7/8 players in it. It's just a player pool so it doesn't matter if it's incomplete. You're only picking two and chances are they're going to be from the first 5 picks anyway. Following on from my example; I would pick from Fergies' Gum's team if Stretford Kid won match 8, while if Baconlars won match 8 he would pick from him and I would pick from my original opposition in Stretford Kid. If that makes any sense. Means we're still picking 2 players from one team each, rather than two picking 4 from one.

EDIT: Swapping about just confuses things.. Let's just say that whoever beats the best loser (Stretford Kid) just picks from Fergies' Gum, and then whoever wins from match 8 just picks as normal.

Say it goes like this:

KM v AldoRaine18 - AldoRaine picks from KM
Thisistheone v Anointed One - Thisistheone picks from Anointed One
Brwned v stretford kid (Best Loser) - Brwned picks from Fergies' Gum
Isotope v zlatan_Ish - zlatan_ish picks from Isotope
Fergus' Son v Lifaboy - Fergus' Son picks from Lifaboy
Paolo Di Canio v nahealai - nahealai picks from Paolo
Baconlars v Best Loser/Stretford Kid - Baconlars picks from Stretford Kid

Cool. Means we bring Baggio back into the game...
