#9 The Priority For Jose

Letting go welbeck and Hernandez and dimaria is haunting us now.

Morata to Milan seem too advanced to hijack and its not like he fancies a move to OT anyway
That's true. with Morata out, Griezmann out, Aubameyang off to Paris, Belotti seems good but he's just had one good season, that leaves very few options. Lukaku but we would have to pay through the roof. Sanchez would be the same story. Werner from Leipzig could be a cheaper option and we could test them even though they don't plan on selling.

*Shudders* :nervous:

Instead of Greaseman! You might be too young get that one. :D
I'd like both, but I'll settle for Werner. I don't think we'll get him. I've got this notion that Leipzig players are off limits because of red bull, and because they have an interesting team which could really go places with player retention and a tighter defence.

Max Kruse , he is also linked with united..werder bermen striker

Look forward to whatever big sweaty man Jose brings to the team now we're not getting Griez

I don't know exactly how much Red Bull are willing to plow in but you could be right.

Things haven't gotten that desperate yet.

Lukaku scores a ton of goals with an inferior side. His physical presence compliments the young pacey fellas... I have no problem signing him and I think he will surprise everyone. Also, if he slacks off or falters you know Jose will get rid of him so I don't see what the worry is.

Options are thin. Benzema, Kane and Lewa are straight up just not happening. Auba is off to PSG/not Mourinho's type of centre forward. Lacazette too. Werner and Mbappe are too young. Cavani misses even more chances than Lewa and Ibra do. I have no idea how good Modeste is and Dzeko is a shout but I've no clue how good he is.

That leaves us with Icardi, Belotti, Lukaku. Icardi is a good option but supposedly very immobile and static. Lukaku and Belotti score a lot of goals, but their prices are very high and both of them seemingly have poor touches and can't link up with their teammates very well.

My point is there is no perfect striker out there on the market right now. Better to get someone rather than no one. And all these preconceptions we have might not be true at all. Last year many did not want Ibra because he was too old, this year he was fantastic.

Sorry, but just thought I'd give your post a good natured little TLDR...
We're fecked...:)

I can see why he wants a 9 but I only see Lewandowski, Mbappe or Kane as being guaranteed class. Lukaku is overpriced. Belotti unproven, Morata a good squad striker. Griezzman would bring the overall quality up and score goals. Can't see why they've pulled out of the chance to sign him.

Others:

How good is Lacazette? Why is he still at Lyon?

Modeste is awful. One season wonder.

Cavani, misses chances but I think he'd be a good signing.

Sanchez: Would be a good signing.

It'd make more sense to get a lesser #9 who Griezmann could play off rather than just pursue a Belotti or Lukaku instead of AG.

Giroud, Mandzukic or Benteke would be relatively cheap and serve the Ibrahimovic-esque purpose of being physically imposing in the opposition box, while still worth 15 goals in addition to the 20+ you'd imagine Griezmann could bag in the Premier League.

It seems naive to pass up on Griezmann, just to facilitate an expensive #9.

Without Griezmann, James would help with some goals from behind the striker. Up front (depending on price) Morata, Mandzukic or Dzeko wld be my choices. Last option is to go bargain hunting and gamble on a young talent with the right physical qualities and let rashford, martial and new kid fight for it.

The only player dying to come here and united don't want.

I'm going to start working on an article tomorrow about which forward Jose should sign. What I'll say now is we need to make sure we don't mistake PL experience with genuine top flight ability, we also need to find somebody who is not only a good finisher, but a physically intimidating presence due to his pace and strength, Belotti to me could be moulded into the perfect #9.

What we need is a talisman someone who can turn the screw and turn it on when the chips are down. I don't see that in our squad especially if Zlatan is leaving. Pogba has it to some extent but from a deeper role. I hope our second target on the list is someone exciting. Today has been a bitter pill to swallow.

I really don't think that's necessary. Prioritising physical attributes over technical ones is why we have been lumped with Fellaini for so long. We need technical ability, not strength.

Icardi, anyone? 5'11, 24 years old and 24 goals this season.

He'd be big money, but not as big as Lukaku.
I think he's the best of the lot we're discussing. Would be even better now that Perisic seems to be happening as it could be another one of Mourinho's classic pairings like Costa-Fabregas or Zlatan-Pogba.

But he is quite committed and sentimentally attached to Inter.

Honestly don't think there's a striker on the market that's significantly better than what we already have. Me thinks money will be wasted this summer.

Don't understand why this has become a 'priority' only now, a #9 should've been our priority the moment Zlatan tore his CL.

Was never totally sold on Griezmann as I haven't seen him lead the line on his own, neither did he perform well when he was played in a wide position for a couple of games in the Euros. He's done best playing off a #9 and we don't have that player, wasn't sure how we were going to use him.

Glad that has been put to bed now, so that we can focus on other targets. Going by the rumors we're in for Lukaku Lacazette and Belotti. From these 3, I'd pick Belotti, and this has nothing to do with the fact that I am an Azzurri fan, really. :wenger:

We dont need a no.10, we need a world class no.9, and wide man who can deliver crosses and beat men, and a holding midfielder.

We should go all out to bring Ronny back

Seems CL football not helping us a lot of transfers:lol::lol:

United got Pogba, Zlatan and Micky with Europa league

And now we gonna reject by Griez, Morota and Mbappe and linking with Lukaku and Perisic.

Not a good summer to start

Couldn't agree more.

For the reported £86m we were willing to splash on Greizmann, I'd encourage a cheeky bid to Spurs for Kane for that much....!
