4 X 100 Relay USA

I was delighted to see Padraig Harrington win the PGA golf tournament.
that was all down to the fact that he's Irish. shouldn't I be happy then?

Why though? Because they share the same passport?

Were they all jumping up and down feeling warm when Jesse Owens did what he did?

If Ireland do well I'd be happy. Big deal. Where are you from? England? Do you not support your national team? There is nothing wrong with wanting people from your own country doing well.

seems to be the way.

I'd like it more if Harrington were from Cork but there ya go. he's Irish, that'll do.

pity he's from Dublin though. ;)

the Frenchies must be sick, the look on their faces was priceless.
also, Phelps looks like he needs a hamburger & chips cos he looks a bit thin for a male swimmer.

Yeah, he does look quite funny. Some expert analyzed him on TV yesterday and said he was like made for swimming: short legs, big upper body (gets a lot of air and consequently floats better than the rest), big feet and long arms.

My personal opinion is that his ears probably help as well - they're like two big airplane wings.

WTF is the swimming nonsense..

The 10m Air Rifle is where it is at....

What I'm saying is did you get a warm feeling when that British lass this morning won the swimming gold, or the lass the day before with the cycling gold? Did you start calling the second place athletes "pussies" because of their nationality? The idiot called Alex that did that probably doesn't even know the ancestry of the swimmers involved (thus the Americans do not exists comment), one could have been ethnically French. This is why it gets so bizarre.

The althetes are not doing this for their citizenship, and the idea of the Olympics is of personal achievement, that the human race is a single nation.

It's an outdated idea that there are national teams in the modern Olympic Games, but then again they allow professional sportmen earning millions and millions every year to compete in it.

I started calling them pussies because they mouthed off about being able to smash the Americans, and the one that did it was the one who got caught at the end of the race. He talked the talk and choked when he had to walk the walk.

Who gives a shit about what your ancestry is, just because the US is a relatively new nation with a variety of people in it, it's not like their is a variety of ancestry in other countries it has just been diluted over the existence of the country. It's not as if people were just created French a billion years ago and have lived in France since then, and the British were created and then put on Britain. Most countries have a diverse gene pool that has been created over thousands of years, just because Americas has been for a few hundred, doesnt mean that their arent Americans.

And you are an idiot if you think everyone competing in the Olympics is making millions and million every year to compete in it. Some due yes, but at least 95% do it for little more than the love of the sport. I dont recall you saying that the European Championships or World Cup were pointless because the athletes are getting paid so much, and in that case those athletes are making millions a year. In the end, I think you have an ulterior motive in regards to your thoughts about the Olympics and also Americans, or maybe you are just a sad, misguided, little man who got picked on too much when he was a youngster, because your original post was 100% horseshit.

Yes, and it's retarded, because some if not most of the people you are "supporting" are not of your nationality, rather they have the same citizenship as you?

What is this, passport wars?

Yes it could be. And so what?

Why do you support United?

By definition if you hold a passport from a certain country you are that nationality. I have an American passport and thus an American national, confusing isn't it:wenger:

The USA is not a nation, it's a state. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is not a nation, it's a state, and each of the four "nations" within that state are no longer nations because they do not have any person within them that are of that nationality.

Olympic Games is about countries competing with one another. At the end of the Games, people will remember which country is on top but seldom will remember the individual athlete unless they are like Sir Steve and the like who achieve so much his individual image represents the Country that is Great Britain.

Likewise, as far as Michael Phelps is concerned, although he is an individual competing for personal glory (breaking Spitz's record etc) each victory of his adds to the the American medal counts and all Americans have the right to be celebratory! So here's well done to Phelps (keep going!) and congrats to the American citizens!

I was (and always will be) as proud as any British whenever the image of Sir Steve standing on the podium in all his Olympic Games victory came to mind!!! And I can speak on behalf of every reasonable and respectable British citizen who knows a thing or two about the meaning of an Olympic Games.

For all you know his ancestry could be German, Irish, French, Italian, etc. Britain is not a nationality, it's a political state, so what connection do you have with him, that he can vote in the same general election as you?

Weaste would be more interested in the Olympics if there were video games in it

 Another stupid comment

What is wrong with you going on about Nations? He is a person from a certain country and carries the flag of that country (wearing the uniform representing that country) and his name is not on the medal table when he wins. His country he is representing is!

That is what the Olympic Games is about: Countries!

You are good at this. It's people like you that I wish were deleted from this website, because the likes of you simply come out with one liners. You are incapable of constructing an argument on any level.

What do you think a country is?

Your last sentence there is so retarded I don't want to know, forget it.

The Olympic Games are about excellence of the person - the athlete that is the best of the best, it has nothing to do with countries, nations, or states.

The Olympics is nothing if there is no distinction of Countries from where people came from.

The Olympics is not an individual glory seeking venue! It is a by product of what an Olympic Game is all about. Individuals are part of the whole process, they are not IT, they are part of IT.

I am interested in the Olympic Games, but I don't really care who wins what. I want to see the best althete in whatever event win.

Everyone watches a Game and care about it shares the same common interest: Watching the best Athlete achieving the best. They can support certain individual even they do not belong to their own country. I for one support Michael Phelps in hoping he can achieve the record breaking mission, even he is not from my country! What's your point?

The French did some smack talking before this race, "We will smash the Americans, thats what we came here for" when you talk like this then fail to deliver, you sort of deserve to get your nose rubbed in it considering the French had the world record holder swimming the final leg who was already in front only to get caught.... well done the Americans....classic race
