2034 WC to be Held in Saudi Arabia after Australia Pulls out

Remember when this already happened only a year ago and the caf was so outraged that it threatened to boycott it but then didn't and proclaimed it the best world cup ever instead?

The whole ‘remember when someone said something but then someone entirely different said something different’ thing is one of my biggest pet peeves of this place.

I fully expect World Cups to be played exclusively in that region sooner rather than later.

And 100% we will have a Champions League final played in Riyadh or Doha before 2034.

The whole CL will be played there.

And it'll include Saudi clubs.

And it'll morph into the Super League.

This is an inaccurate generalization of what happened. Many of us boycotted that world cup. I watched none of it, which was previously inconceivable to me. Several others boycotted it too.

Because apart from being a dictatorship that will murder its own people on a whim, it is illegal to be homosexual, women are subservient to men, and thousands of slaves will die to build it.
Other than the uncomfortable details you highlighted there, it’s not bad at all :/

I saw 10 mins of one game that happened to be on when I turned the telly on. Not sure that I decided to boycott but I was so disinterested in watching that I didn't.

Anyone wants to boycott the US WC for not having gun laws, racism in policing, allowing people to die because of costly health insurance and medical procedures, exporting obesity to Mexico and all around the world, multiple wars resulting in instability and creation of huge terrorist groups, support of Israel led genocide and hundreds of other things in last 7 decades?

Winter World Cup is good thoroughly enjoyed it last year.

1. You can't put that on us

2. "Sportswashing" can only be done by Middle East autocracies. We're horrible but we don't want people to think we're awesome, that's the difference.

What’s the financial situation there like? Can Kim afford to throw the kind of money at this that SA and Qatar can?
Difficult to grow an economy under heavy sanctions, but irrespective of that, they couldn’t compete with oil nations. Australia is a huge world economy and even their bid went down under.

1. Didn't US threaten Mexico that they will pull out of some trade deals if Mexico puts anti-dump duties on high fructose corn syrup?

2. Do Saudis really care? Everyone shits on them, but takes their money anyways.

We did? That explains a lot... well we then take responsibility for exporting obesity, but only to Mexico. Fentanyl for fructose seems a fair trade

That's where the "sportswashing" definition breaks down, but I don't want additions to my tagline so let's leave it at that :D

Between United's enduring struggles and the continued slapping in the face with blatant corruption by different oil clubs, and then FIFA and UEFA continuing to laugh in the face of everything holy, I've officially given up being interested in most of pro footie.

I follow my my local semi pro and amateur club more now than national and pro level and am happier for it.

So what? The current 8000 and counting civilian deaths in Gaza by Israel, supported by the most powerful western countries show more than anything else that western countries are evil and do not care for human rights as long as their own people or allies aren’t dying or tortured.
So if tournaments can take place in the US and Europe, they absolutely can also take place in Saudi Arabia.

I think it's more that Mexico has a ban on genetically modified corn for human consumption (it's allowed for animal feed). And US farmers need to dump their heavily subsidized mountains of corn somewhere.

But back to football. Will foreign visitors be allowed to visit all parts of Saudi when the world cup is held there?

Anywhere but Mecca/Medina (unless they're Muslim)

Another one I will not be watching then.

Agreed. Get ready for some western whinging and virtue signalling in 2033.

Yeah good luck with that mate. Really lived up to your virtuous word last time.

I don't think it will go that far but I do expect them to try and buy football as opposed to trying to buy players to play in their league (which won't work long term).

Greed really has taken over the world.

Did you see how many celebs were at the Tyson Fury fight over the weekend ?, literally everyone wants a piece of the action.

Money rules baby ! ... morality can sit in the corner and be quiet.
Yeah, this is only the beginning. They're out to rule entertainment. World Cups, Boxing events, their version of WrestleMania already. Soon they'll be getting Super bowls, once in a lifetime concerts, premieres to a Hollywood blockbuster before anywhere else, Champions League finals, whatever you can think of.

So? Some of the posters are really happy with it. They have money do they'll make it a great spectacle supposedly.

Well I for one am absolutely shocked. Something tells me Australia is quite a bit richer today than it was last week.
