2024 U.S. Elections | Trump v Harris

Voted today in NC. About a 45 min wait, for like 50 people. The whole thing is a ridiculous waste of time. There are 2 people checking in the entire line, and then 2 people to print out each ballot (god forbid the be pre printed). Then, each choice is a big ass square box that must be filled in using the shitiest ball point pen ever made. The poll workers were fantastic, but I am 100% convinced the process is made as painful as possible to keep people, especially in my bright blue county, from voting.

Also, we had a constitutional amendment on the ballot to declare that only citizens can vote… guess what ITS ALREADY IN THE feckING STATE CONSTITUTION.! ………..except the new amendment removes “naturalized citizen” from the language. I wonder why.

It’s a good thing Harris is running against Trump because she is having yet another mare at the town hall. Avoiding answering people’s questions while robotically reciting canned talking points. Unsurprisingly, all the DNC stooges on Twitter are triumphantly proclaiming she “crushed it”.
She's not particularly great at these things but it is exhausting witnessing the standards both candidates are held to. Trump has given up trying to answer people's questions entirely, he knows he doesn't have to do shit.

She should have just stood on stage swaying to shitty music for 30 minutes, then shat her pants. That seems to get a pass.

I watched 20 minutes or so. Couldn’t watch anymore. I wasn’t convinced by most of her answers, and she ignored questions.

It’s not about the format per se. She just doesn’t seem to know what to say. The border wall, for example: it’s a bipartisan bill. She could’ve said that the Democrats needed to compromise with the GOP and that’s what the GOP wanted.

And all of these questions: why you didn’t do this and that? Well, there is a limit to what can be done, and Biden is the incumbent president. There is no great way to answer these questions.

Not particularly great would be putting it kindly. That was a calamitous, cringeworthy performance. Trump is irrelevant in all of this because everyone already knows he lies about everything which makes interviews and town halls with him completely pointless. I expect a higher level of quality from the person I’m actually voting for, and right now I’m not seeing anything remotely close to acceptable.

The infuriating thing is it will pass, and pass easily, because it “sounds” rational for anyone who is not terminally online. Just another instance of Republicans trying to go back to when only white, Protestant, men could vote.

Edit: forgot to add “ land owning”, cuz feck those poor ass people.

Lula, as much as corrupt he could be, they played him dirty in those charges. And to be honest I prefer Lula than Bolsonaro

To be honest, his dealings with Petrobras is the textbook definition of corruption.

But yeah, that Brazilian election was the textbook definition of AIDS vs Ebola

Harris fully embracing the Biden playbook now with the focus on democracy and casting of Trump as a Hitler wannabe. I don’t think that’s the way to win over middle voters, and it smells a little bit of desperation. Feeling pretty gloomy right now.

Idk if it really means anything but this is the biggest GOP stronghold in terms of raw votes in WI, nearly 160k votes in 2020. If Harris can crack 40% here she would be golden.

Like anyone would even turn 5% of Magatards. They are far gone

Pretty good numbers for Harris. Marist is one of the best pollsters, isn’t it?
Yes, A+ 538.

LV is Trump +1/Trump+2/Tie, but I really don’t buy the ‘Harris does better with RV’ theory, feels like a hedge for them tbh for a polling miss in favour of Trump scenario.

My sister told me that she would say depending on what would get her the most votes. (My sister used to work for the city in SF.) And this was her opinion before Kamala was even handed the nomination.

 Spoof!

Yeah, that town hall was a huge missed opportunity. She struggles badly to answer concrete questions directly without deflection or misdirection and resorting to meaningless slogans and has done for most of the campaign. Whatever the reasons, it’s disappointing that it hasn’t really improved given how obvious it’s been throughout to anyone watching. Don’t think it damages her really but it was a missed opportunity to make a few gains.

Trump reiterates desire to deport immigrants.

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday night once again reiterated his plan to deport millions of immigrants if he wins the November election.

"Immediately upon taking the oath of office, I will launch the largest deportation program in American history," Trump declared at a rally in Duluth, Georgia. "I will rescue every town across America, and every town is worried about it."

In the latest Financial Times poll, Trump took the lead on Harris regarding trust with the economy. It's the first time Trump took the lead on this issue: https://www.ft.com/content/a85d86c2-e299-42a5-9f75-9f1f8f2ee4cc
I thought he led on the economy the whole time, all the stuff I read is how well Harris has closed the huge gap.

There's no hope for America this time around. People trust the guy who went bankrupt 5 times - including a casino! - because he was on a heavily scripted reality-tv show. There's not much you can do for the idiocracy.

No Country Still Uses an Electoral College − Except the US

Every other country that used an electoral college has been unsatisfied with the results and chosen another way to pick a leader.

As someone on twitter said, it's DEI for Republicans. They'd never win another election without the EC, unless an inspirational figure like Reagan shows up for them out of nowhere.

Americas voting system is utterly insane. I appreciate how large a country you are, but I’ve lived and voted in London across a couple of different areas, as well as Kent.

At no point ever have I had to queue for more than 30 seconds. Literally just a pause for an open booth.

How on earth has the supposed bestest democracy on the planet conspired to insert voting machines, queues, bans on water being handed out, and all the other shit y’all cope with?

It’s insane.

Edit : Should also say, we do it all on one day, and the results are fast.

If you ever saw a US ballot paper you'd know why, I've seen shorter books!

I do think a lot of it is state or local authorities being the issue as well. Around me here in MI most people do early voting or absentee and in the suburbs im in I've never heard of someone saying it takes more than 10-15 minutes to get in and out.

It's also income driven. Some states intentionally have fewer polling places in urban areas, making it harder for minorities to vote.

I still don't get how more than 50 clinically insane people could contemplate voting for Trump no matter what you think of the Dems or Kamala. Trump is demented and pure evil and hates everyone who isn't him.
