Exactly what I said in the Elon Musk thread. I said that we no longer have a free media. It is controlled by the Social media and especially Elon Musk. Trump is a clever fkr. he paid off the big IT companies. Peoples views are now controlled. Open one persons X account and another's X account and it will be completely different. They are being fed the information. I bet what most of America sees in their social media is very different from what we see in Europe. Once the AI takes over if it hasn't already then there is no free speech. Well there is but it will be so hidden down the rankings it will be meaningless. Its the only thing that makes sense why millions of Americans will vote for a convicted woman abuser let alone his other crimes.

I can’t agree with this take. Social media has been distorting reality for years, way before musk was anywhere in the Twitter picture. It’s literally why he bought the platform to begin with.

Most social media shows you the content it thinks you want to see. Enjoy liberal content? We’ll show you more of that because it keeps you on the platform. Social media platforms have been demonetising and keeping far right content off the algorithm for years now. It’s always been there, but such actions have only emboldened the right, and we see the results of that now.

This has been a known for years and you’re shocked by the current Twitter because the curtain is down and all of a sudden you can see the other side. The millions of people who have an opposing view. And let’s be clear, they’re very evidently the majority.

One candidate strongly advocated for body autonomy and women's rights. The other had a hand in the repeal of Roe v Wade.

Yea but isnt that different from, you should vote for me because i am male just like you, or we have same skin tone or same hair color, i meant like that

People can dress it up how they want. What it comes down to is the US is a country full of extremely stupid and selfish people. Its a reminder of how much worse we could be here and thankfully aren't (yet).

There will probably need to be some kind of mini civil war to remove him this time as well. It nearly happened last time with Trump deciding it simply didn't count if he lost, and now the people of America have vindicated it. Good luck with that at the next election.

Any idea yet on turn-out numbers compared to the last 2 elections? Have voters just not come out for Kamala, or did Trump boost his base?

i think using an old man’s proven track record against him is mean.

Yeah, but I still haven't heard how the Democrat apparatus was supposed to choose one over the other at the time. I honestly don't know. I guess Biden maybe could have handpicked one, but that would have seemed like a betrayal of Harris and very odd.
Well I mean Biden had to endorse someone that's clear. However that choice shouldn't have been personal but rather Dems telling him who to choose. I mean I'd even go with 83 years old Bernie, although it was already late as I think he committed to running for elections in May.

I understand the loyalty point, but by all accounts at the time Harris wasn't popular and they knew it. They would still raise funds(had time for a campaign) and Trump had his own demons. Basing it on loyalty they were up to a defeat whereas out of the other choices they would've fared much better, I think.

have you seen the average voting american? no way they were voting for a woman of colour, even if she guaranteed them untold wealth or blowjobs.

I’m just clinging to the fact he’s a grossly overweight, extremely unfit, 78 year old man. He’ll be beating the odds to even take part in another election.

Even Mark fecking Robinson got 40%. A pro-slavery black person.

At least he lost handily, I suppose, but still, 40%!

But but what about the booming stocks!

Don’t know why we are over analysing this result when the evidence is right before our eyes. People feel worse off. Their pockets are leaner. They take their anger out on the administration when that happens. It’s the same thing that happened here and in every other functioning democracy.

When you feel poorer, everything else is secondary.

Not the news I was hoping to wake up to earlier, far from it...

But America is a very big country and Trump has been elected fair and square.

He must now be held to account from day one, and his inauguration will come around quickly.
Fair and square because he won, and because he won only.

Opposing views have not been shut down at all. If you are referring to racist, Xenophobic and abuse then yes, the curtain is down and we can see that now without any checks and balances.

Yep, most of the US don’t give two fecks about Ukraine, Gaza, the global economy, climate change, they just want to line their own pockets, which Trump always promises them.

He has an extremely high IQ though so will probably invent a way to cure that. Like he did with Covid.

He would need to change the rules for him to take part in another election regardless of health. Which I don't think anyone can confidently say he won't.

He'd already started 100 lawsuits over voter fraud just in case he won.

I'm just glad I'm not American.

The world is moving right. And quite far and quite quickly. I don’t think the divide in what was on offer between the right and left has been so stark.

I agree. And we now see the extent of what people can ignore or put up with because of that "feeling". They don't need to understand the minutia and economics of why just that it is the case and if that feeling can be tied to the candidate.

A seperate funny aside all things considered. What is the over under on somehow THIS election suddenly there is not voter fraud concerns and everything is magically fixed? All those election deniers somehow take credit for fixing it when had he lost we would have heard all manner of nuttery and conspiracy.

Depressing. I remember switching onto the news on January 6th just as things started kicking off and thinking 'well at least Trump is finally done now'. Insane that he's ended up winning comfortably.

To be fair, Twitter under Musk has started pushing tight wing ideology across more accounts. Even centre/liberal accounts

Of course, but the point is that it’s now actively pushing an agenda despite what you might be interested in. It’s a propaganda tool. It’s not trying to keep you on the platform, it’s radicalisation plain and simple.

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it’s only the good ones that die early. Trump will live to 100 years old.

I think it’s as others have already said. It’s the economy. The metrics are irrelevant. It’s what you feel in your pocket.

That. And the fact Biden left it too late and Harris was always a poor candidate for multiple reasons.

When the economy is shit people vote elsewhere. It always happens. Sure Biden dropping early and a better candidate might have made a difference. But not enough to change the result I think.

Mic drop

No they don’t. What does that even mean? Own this? They need to fight every fecking horrible decision he tries to make.
You do have to fight all the decisions that are about to me made but at the same time, this is not the first time that they have been outdone by the cult. The democratic establishment and main stream media do need to take some level of responisbility here. You have to take a look in the mirror when someone selling what trump is selling is more popular than what you can come up with. I think its easy to fall back on the social media, disinformation, fox news and Kamala being a multiracial woman, and for sure that is a large part of it but its not all. There is a large disconnect with many of the key states that decide the election and that needs to fixed. The above issues that people will highlight as the reason for the loss are not unknown things, they were known well in advance but no apparent inroads have been made to combat it.

As a non American I was hoping for Harris to win for the sake of stability, the climate, the various conflicts currently taking place and a plethora of other issues. Shits not good, they control all branches and it has consequences for us all. Hopefully the administration is not all that competant. The last one wasn't, but there were a few adults in the room then, now not so much. 4 years and we'll see where we are at
