Is there any state where she outperformed Biden?
Looks like no. She's running about 5 points worse on average. In deep blue state the erosion is even bigger, New York and New Jersey swung 10 pts to the right.

This has also put the notion of a ground game or candidate visit/campaigning out of the window.

Back to this again eh?

Yes I don't support Trump. I even voted for the coward Kamala Harris this time. Can you guys ever engage on any criticism of a Democrat without saying what about trump?
Ah yes "you guys". No I can't with you because you clearly measure with two different cups and then excuse it by saying "I voted for Kamala" when leading up to this you gave Trump a pass on so many other issues in this very thread.

Honestly I didn't see much hope with a Harris win either. Climate change is so far down the list of interests for voters - it's depressing. Trump will surely be worse than Harris, but it's not as though Harris had genuine big plans for helping stop the acceleration of climate change.

Not trying to say the Dems (or indeed any government) are doing enough, but they at least acknowledge it and are slowly doing something. Trump has actively said he’ll let oil companies do what they want, the same fecks who’ve known about this since the 80s and have utilized the same tactics as tobacco companies just so they can keep their profits soaring.

We could throw our hands up and say feck it, nobody’s good enough on this. Or we could do what we can to mitigate a little, rather than ramping it up so they can get their pay-days in before shit really hits the fan.

This is ONE aspect of policy which makes a second Trump term a tragedy. There’s a myriad more, but this one will affect the world at large, so I thought it a good example of why I find it horrendous to claim it’s just a minor inconvenience blown out of proportion by the west and its spoiled denizens.

Not to mention a sexist pig.

Aye.

It's a drubbing.
You can't have a cost of living crisis and not expect to suffer at the polls.
Yeah people can post about the stock market doing well or high GDP but I was recently reading an article which showed suicide rates hit a all time high in 2022.

This isn’t a good economy for the average American.

Or maybe the country is just gone. Maybe this is the real-life version of Idiocracy, and there was never any hope at all - Dems (and liberal voters) need to adapt to a world where morals and values mean jack shit, and only might is right.
This would be consistent with how the US acts internationally.

If anything I always thought it was hypocritical of the US to brag about all these rights and freedoms within, while fecking over countries who don't bend to their will outside.

Harris made a big mistake by not speaking to her crowd tonight. The networks are about to call the race now that PA seems to be gone and Harris has somehow slithered out of doing a concession speech.

That said, am I right in thinking this is the first time for a long time that a Republican president isn’t taking over a strong economy?

Historically they do and then loot the feck out of it, there doesn’t seem to be any wiggle room for that sort of looting this time? I can’t him but think the next election they will lose big for the reason they’re going to win today - the economy.
It's strong enough for another round of the Trump tax cuts. The public will be grateful to him for it due to a temporary boost in their income, and when an overheat economy predictably crash in a few years, he won't care because he's gone.

But his proposed tax cuts won't even benefit the people who actually need it. Id gladly pay more to benefit the have nots. I don't need more money. But no - me me and more more is what people want. Especially the ones who already have a lot. I will benefit more from the cuts than the poor sod who can't afford a home.

Aye.
Yes I agree with all that. I just had very little hope climate change would be properly addressed under Harris, and under Trump there is no hope. But we can barely even vote in a few climate-conscious parties ourselves in Europe, so it is a trend overall - people just don't care. Or can't care, if we're being generous.

There has to be some soul searching across the entire Dem apparatus, they clearly need a better understanding of what matters to voters. Or a much clearer idea of what they think should matter and why, so they can they convince their voters of the same. Or maybe they just need to improve their messaging and outreach. Harris was always the underdog given how little time she had, despite the sheer advantage in campaign funding - the support system that encouraged Biden to stay on for so long has a lot to answer for. As do the decision makers who funded Israel without question, and ignored/suppressed all dissent in the face of US-funded and US-backed genocide

Or maybe the country is just gone. Maybe this is the real-life version of Idiocracy, and there was never any hope at all - Dems (and liberal voters) need to adapt to a world where morals and values mean jack shit, and only might is right.
It’s incredibly hard to launch effective messaging when the vast majority of people are so overwhelmingly stupid. Might as well run all future presidential races on Tik Tok with 8 second sound bites, because a candidate has just won - for the second time - with no discernible policies, a raging case of dimwittery. Sexual assault incidents, open racism, felony convictions….the list goes on. If people were intelligent, even remotely, and understood anything about the economy or geopolitics, Trump would win about 20% of the vote. But they don’t. They vote on ridiculous single issue items, which they often don’t even understand. It’s like trying to teach Shakespeare to a Llama. There’s no point.

The Dems should just put up The Rock, John Cena, Tom Cruise, or Channing Tatum for President. They’d probably win, easily. I was going to say Taylor Swift or Lady Gaga, but not enough men will ever vote for a woman in this country.

I've never given Trump a pass on anything. I've never voted for Trump or any republican for any office ever. I literally don't know what more you want from me. I already voted for your candidate. She lost anyway. Turns out that eboue from redcafe has no influence on who the president is. Can we just have a discussion like normal people without you trying to hold me accountable for lack of belief in the Democratic party from 2016-2023?

This is relative.
The average American will tell you it isn't a strong economy becuase he's stuggling to pay his bills. Real wages are doing a worse than pre-Covid levels, which is what people will benchmark against.
Would not surprise me if real wages are back to and better than pre-covid levels in another three years. Then people start saying Trump has done well with the economy, when it's Biden who has done the heavy lifting.

I didn't follow this election as closely as 2020 or 2016 for various reasons. The main one seems fully confirmed to me now: it's pointless. The vast majority of data, anecdote, and analysis produced is somewhere between useless and extremely limited.

It's a drubbing.

It always is. It is always easy to be "smart" from outside and talk about human rights for example but if you are a person who is living from paycheck to paycheck with family to feed and in need to give them what is needed for decent living then you don't care for most of things in which democrats are above republicans. You ask yourself one question; "under which candidate our economy will be better?"

Americans think it is under Trump. Is it? Well, they will find out i guess.

How many properly strong candidates have you seen over the last 30 years?

Obama in 2008 and that's it for me. Clinton got lucky in a three way race and none of the other Dem options even in primary were strong, historically. Of everyone mentioned so far for 2028, only Newsom stands a chance. Buttigieg and Shapiro wouldn't do better than Kamala based on this.

Currently we have north hecking korean troops marching on sovereign European nation and largest conventional war since ww2, some are really detached.
You have no idea of how weak Europe is militarily. The entire UK army can fit in Wembley stadium and that's one of the stronger ones. Italy can sustain an Ukraine type of war for 1 week.

How exactly do you ruin a non existent system?
It exists, at least to the extent where certain policies (vaccines schedules, water fluoridation to name two topical ones) are put in place for the good of public health.

The US will survive just fine. Europe on the other hand....we've been relying on the US to save our arse and now that support is gone

Will it? Have you read the points in Project 2025? Senate majority, a stacked supreme court that Trump will likely get to add to… religious fundamentalism has been pushing its agenda for some time, and now they and white supremacists are happily joining forces and making headway at re-shaping the US. Women have already lost their right to choose in a number of states, they’re going to go for birth control too, and lord knows what they’ll do to the democratic process in order to ensure that they stay on course.

It’s been bad enough for a while in the US, but I think we’ve reached a tipping point. And I’m not sure you’re clued up on the potential horrors that await the US.

I'll admit I'm extremely fired up right now because I continue to be frustrated how insular the vast majority of people tend to look at these candidates and elections. And the complete lack of morality that goes along with it. No I don't agree with Harris or the Dems on a variety of things - some very strongly in fact - but the extremely long list of everything Trump and co have already brought about and the complete destruction of civility is something I cannot swallow at all. I apologize if I am overly combative. I probably need to step away.
