Yep. But there will be huge cultural effects. I know it will embolden lots of nasty elements of our society here in Europe.

Tbh, Europe's been able to achieve that on its own. Several times. Can't blame that on Trump. Even more recently, Brexit was pre-Trump.

You're freaking out over nothing. Us westerners have it easy compared to literally everyone else. They laugh at our hysterical reactions to stuff like this, well laugh on the inside because public displays of emotions could cost them dearly.

Seriously though, it's 4 years.
It absolutely is given the state of America. It will no longer be a superpower by the end of this presidency. Technology is advancing 100 times faster in the East and they will be left behind.

You guys are downplaying it. Climate change alone is reason enough to weep over this. We’re starting to see serious issues now, and there’s a time lag between CO2 emissions and its effects, so what we’re seeing now are the effects of several decades ago.

Drill, baby drill. It’ll feck over the whole planet, we’ll reach tipping points, and we’ll long back to 2024. And we’re fecking up biodiversity that took billions of years to build up, all so that fecks like Trump can sit on gold toilets.

And people who are against immigration can look forward to bigger refugee crises once things get really uninhabitable in the warmer parts of the world.

Also so much for polls correcting…

The polls were largely accurate. For instance, Nate Silver’s polling averages for each swing state have each been accurate so far.

The myth that Republicans were loading polling averages with right leaning polls has also been debunked since Trump appears to have won most if not all of the swing states by even bigger margins than what “right leaning polls” previously predicted.

They actually got it right this time, down to the level of racial depolarisation with Latinos. We just don't believe them.

If he wins the popular vote it will be under 1%, it's the massive uniform swing of Hispanic concentrated area that swung the election to him, + further erosion with white non college.

It's basically a death sentence for the mainstream Dem electioneering strategy. The party of pro immigration and pro labour have just been told, by non college white and Latino men that they want none of it, they want tax cuts and aggresive border policies. It makes sense as well, we are just too blind to see it. Obama was the deporter in chief and pursued a conservative fiscal policy and he was significantly more popular with both groups.
Yep. People will always vote against their self interest if you convince them the pain they feel is someone else’s fault and that you will punish “the other” on their behalf.

So pathetic that Harris doesn't have the guts to speak to the people who volunteered for her for months. A true coward and loser. I wish the worst on her.
Not really the biggest problem anyone has to worry about right now though, is it?

After spending the last 4 years watching dementia slowly ravage my Dad, it feels really weird to be switching teams and now being a dementia supporter for the next 4 years.
Not so sure if Vance would be any better. Four dark years ahead.
Just hope Trump's biggest f**k ups will be domestic and the rest of the world will be spared.

You can absolutely blame huge amounts of it on Trump when right wing groups quote him word for word and receive funding from emboldened American right-wing groups. Trumpism has toxified political discourse in other European countries in a way Brexit never did.

Honestly I didn't see much hope with a Harris win either. Climate change is so far down the list of interests for voters - it's depressing. Trump will surely be worse than Harris, but it's not as though Harris had genuine big plans for helping stop the acceleration of climate change.

The data on Latino men voting in droves for Trump is the least surprising thing of the night. Such a deeply misogynistic culture, they’d rather vote for a racist that thinks they are scum, than a woman. Let alone a woman of colour.

And that is happening everywhere in europe too. The typical left voters shifted completely in vote preferences. And this victory will embolden others around the world as like the 2016 results. Is maddening

People saying that this election doesn't affect them are horribly wrong

Odds on Vance being the next president? Trump is cooked. Can’t see him last four years.

Trump doing his jerk off dance to the sound of Macho Man seems to have paid dividends

Sometimes I feel Eboue is just permanently pissed off no matter what the topic is

You truly just expect nothing from the people who want to lead us? Politicians constantly ask from us. They draw their salaries from us. They live pampered lives from us. They ask us to donate. They ask us to volunteer. They ask us to vote.

I think the very least they can do is face the music when they lose.

I take it to mean he is keen on Project 2025 and sees the US as a Christian nation.

His posts the past few days have shown quite clearly what his mindset is. Blinkered.
Not to mention a sexist pig.

Personally, i am not fussed who will win. Both of them are weak candidates. But i am really surprised that Harris (probably) lost.
I expected that she will get most of minority votes, black votes, women votes and of course votes from all those who regulary vote for democrats. How he (probably) beat her is mind-blowing.

I guess economy was key thing. People just think that Trump is better than her regarding that.

I still think these shifts in voting is the long reaching impact of the 2008 financial crash. Right wing ideology picks up in difficult economic times and we’ve never really dealt with that crash. Sprinkle the inflation from the pandemic on top and you have conditions rife for popularism if not fascism.

The Democratic candidate in 28, if there is to be an election, will run on the same line. They've just tried to go back to hope and change and got crushed.

Also, Clarence Thomas probabaly will get his wish of repealing interracial marriage.

This kinda comes across a bit discriminatory to me.

Stop. Making. Me. Agree. With. You.

This night is traumatic enough already.

Couldn’t give a shit to be honest. The sooner Trump dies the better. I always said it was more important that he was beaten democratically but that ship has sailed. Sooner he’s gone the better.

And before anyone says it, no, I’m not advocating his assassination. That would be counter productive too. He just needs to hurry up and die of natural causes.

I’m fully aware I’m breaking forum rules saying this, if it earns a ban so be it, it’ll probably be better for my mental health not stewing in here anyway.
